Chapter 53 Gathering Information

"Let her in!" Li Xingyun said from inside. Xiao Wu then withdrew. Tian Yu pushed open the door and entered. Although it was a study, it was filled with the smell of Chinese medicine. Li Xingyun was still reading a medical book. When he saw Tian Yu come in, he put down his book, turned his wheelchair to the tea table, poured some good tea, and asked Tian Yu to sit down. He said, "Madam, is there something you need from me alone? If it's about your illness, Madam is fine now. It was just a temporary fever caused by catching a cold and worrying too much. There's no need to worry."

Tian Yu sat down, took a sip of tea, and said, "That's not it. I want to ask about Chen Chong."

"Chen Chong, I don't know who you're talking about. I don't think I know this person." Li Xingyun seemed puzzled for a moment, then thought for a moment and said.

"Don't you recognize this? Then you should recognize this, right?" Tian Yu said, taking off the jade pendant from her neck and handing it to him when he didn't admit it.

"What do you mean, Madam? Why do you think I recognize this jade pendant?"

"I guessed. You dare say you don't know him?" Tian Yu stared at Li Xingyun, not missing any subtle changes in his face.

Li Xingyun felt a little uncomfortable under Tian Yu's gaze. After thinking for a while, he said, "I have seen this jade pendant before, but I am not sure if it is the one I saw."

"where?"

"The Imperial Palace of Chen Kingdom".

Tian Yu was somewhat surprised after hearing this, but then thought it was possible, so she quieted down and waited for Li Xingyun to continue.

β€œIn my early years, I accompanied my father to the State of Chen to treat the current emperor of Chen. I happened to see it in a book in the palace. The book said that it belonged to the royal family of Chen and should belong to the royal family.”

"What is your relationship with Zhao Moyan?"

"Why don't you ask the Marquis? He might be able to tell you."

"I don't want to talk about it. Never mind, I'll find the answer myself."

"One last question: you were the one who spread the word that the jade pendant was here."

"no."

"Really? You haven't told anyone."

β€œI told you, if you want to know, you can ask the Marquis directly.”

"Okay, I'll ask. It's best if this has nothing to do with you, or I guarantee I'll shut your clinic down."

"Madam, you have quite the nerve. Are you trying to tear down my clinic?"

"Tear it down? What a waste! I can't bear to part with such a nice courtyard. I'll use it for something else, like turning it into a brothel?"

"You! Good! Madam, this is truly a brilliant idea. I admire you!" Li Xingyun was so shocked that he was speechless.

"You don't need to be nervous. If you haven't done it, I naturally won't bother you. Don't worry, Doctor Li." Seeing his angry look, Tian Yu thought that the clothing store owner was right. This Li Xingyun was not interested in women. His parents kept urging him to get married, but they couldn't do anything about it.

After saying that, he took the jade pendant, picked up the package, and prepared to leave. When he reached the door, he said, "You can tell Zhao Moyan about today's conversation. Also, please tell him that if anything happens to Chen Chong, he should take good care of Tangyuan."

After saying that, she strode out the door without lingering and went to Manager Qian's restaurant. She told him that she would be in the county town for the time being and that he should send someone to Hongyuan to inform her if needed. Manager Qian was puzzled, but then he thought that perhaps Tian Yu was a skilled cook and worked as a cook at Hongyuan, which made much more sense.

It was almost noon when Tian Yu returned to her residence. Tang Yuan had been waiting impatiently to go out and look for her. When she saw Tian Yu return, she quickly hugged her and asked, "Mommy, where did you go again?"

"Mother, I'm going out to buy some things. Look, I bought you some new clothes. This is Xiaoju's, and this is yours."

"Thank you, Mother. Could you bring Tangyuan with you next time you go out?"

"Okay, does Xiaoju want to go out with her mother too?"

"Yes, I would like to, but if it's inconvenient for Mother, Xiaoju can stay and wait for Mother to come back."

"You're such good children, your mother can't bear to leave you."

Uncle Zhou came up and said that lunch was ready, so Tian Yu took the two children to the front hall to eat. After all the dishes were served, Zhao Moyan was nowhere to be seen. After asking around, Tian Yu learned that Zhao Moyan had gone out on business shortly after she left and wouldn't be back until the evening.

Tian Yu had a simple lunch with Tangyuan and Xiaoju, and then played with them in the yard for a while. When they were both a little sleepy, Tian Yu took a nap with them. After they were both asleep, Tian Yu gave Zhou Bo a few instructions, changed into men's clothing, and then went out.

In the afternoon, Tian Yu wandered around the county town for half a day, visiting various places and buying many things she needed, especially books and maps about this unknown era. She also didn't miss any rumors or gossip about the local people and events. She drank tea and listened to stories in a teahouse while browsing the books she had bought.

The storyteller was telling the story of the Marquis of Zhenbei and Pei Yuling, the first female general of the Chen Kingdom. It was nothing more than the story of how the female general was conquered by the Marquis of Zhenbei after several battles, and the back-and-forth between the two. But that was not what Tian Yu wanted to hear. She was not very interested in the Marquis of Zhenbei's deeds, but rather in the news about the Chen Kingdom that was being discussed privately in the teahouse.

The three people at the table in front were discussing how the female general had been betrothed to the royal family since childhood. Unfortunately, a civil war broke out in Chen Kingdom, and the previous king was framed. He fled with his pregnant queen in the dead of night, and ultimately, with nowhere to go, the two chose to jump off a cliff to their deaths. Someone at the next table chimed in, saying that the queen had already given birth, but the prince's whereabouts were still unknown. Some said he jumped off the cliff with his parents, while others said he was captured and executed by the current king. Rumors swirled, and this prince was the one betrothed to Pei Yuling. Now, the general was already twenty and still unmarried, but now she had her eye on a marquis from an enemy kingdom. Since Zhao Moyan's triumphant return, various stories about them had been circulating from the capital all the way to this remote border town. Previously, Tian Yu only thought about farming and taking care of Tangyuan and never cared about these things. Now she is paying attention and there is quite a lot of useful information. Before she knew it, an afternoon had passed. The Zhenbei Marquis they were talking about was her ex-husband Zhao Moyan.
