Looking at the pile of clothes in the basin, Tian Yu felt a headache coming on. She heated up a leftover bun from yesterday and boiled two eggs, thus solving her breakfast problem. Using the hot pan, she kneaded a bowl of dough with the starter she had made last night. Tangyuan fed the chicken and then hurriedly ran out. Tian Yu told him to be careful and come back early, but he was already gone. She hid the silver she had earned yesterday in a different place, then reluctantly picked up the wooden basin and a flat wooden stick from the ground. Following the sound of water, she arrived at the village's main river. Several young women were already washing clothes there. Seeing Tian Yu arrive, they stopped whispering amongst themselves. Tian Yu walked to a section of the riverbank a little further away from them and began to learn their method of washing clothes by pounding the water.
A short while later, three women finished washing clothes and walked up to Tian Yu, carrying wooden basins and blocking the sunlight. Tian Yu looked up, puzzled. She saw three women who looked quite young: a tall, thin woman on the left; a plump woman in the middle who seemed to have been crying; and a beautiful young woman on the right with a well-proportioned figure. She recognized her as a young woman because the other two had their hair up and wore coarse cotton clothes, while she had her hair down and wore a pink floral dress. She was the most beautiful woman she had seen since arriving. Seeing that they didn't speak, Tian Yu didn't want to bother with them; she had many things to do. She hadn't yet dealt with the things she bought yesterday. She needed to finish washing quickly and go home. The three women stood there watching Tian Yu wash clothes. When Tian Yu finished washing, picked up the basin, and got up to leave, they stood together, blocking her way. Tian Yu took a breath, put on a smile, and said, "Do you three need anything? If not, could you please move aside?"
As soon as Tian Yu spoke, the person in the middle started crying. Tian Yu raised an eyebrow, wondering what she was acting for. The tall, thin man spoke first, saying, "Oh, Zhao Xiaoniangzi has really gotten bold. She's hooked up with Hunter Chen and now she wants to seduce Brother Zhao Si."
Tian Yu instantly understood that this was trouble. But when had she seduced Brother Zhao? And who were these two people?
"Why won't you admit it? Everyone saw it. You two came back from the county town together yesterday. You're shameless. Mo Yan has only been gone for a few years and you're already flirting with other women." The pretty girl added.
Hearing this, Tian Yu understood. Zhao Si Ge was indeed a pervert, and the woman crying her eyes out in the middle was his later wife. Tian Yu shook her head helplessly. Seeing that she couldn't leave anytime soon, she simply put down the wooden basin, clapped her hands, and said, "Yes, we came back from the county town together. Who says that riding in the same car as him means you're having an affair with him? That Zhao driver is going to have affairs with everyone in the village. It's ridiculous. Get out of the way! I need to go home and cook."
"You're still trying to deny it! Everyone saw it. It's a pity you didn't drown when you fell into the river last time. Shameless!" the girl in the pink cotton-padded jacket shouted.
Zhao Si's wife cried even harder, and the tall, thin man patted her back to comfort her.
"That's really funny. Just because I rode in the same car as him, you're shameless? If you all live in the same village, then you're all shameless."
"You, you're still trying to argue! Brother Zhao went home and said he's going to divorce his fourth sister-in-law and marry you. Are you satisfied now?" said the woman in the cotton-padded jacket.
"Marry me? Humph! He's not worthy. Doesn't he look in the mirror? Does he think he can marry whoever he wants? Get out of the way, you bunch of brainless idiots!" Tian Yu said angrily.
"Fine, Brother Zhao is no good enough for you, you vixen! Get out of Old Zhao Village right now! If it weren't for Brother Mo Yan, I would have kicked you out long ago. And now you dare to be so arrogant!" The girl in the pink cotton-padded jacket said angrily.
“Brother Moyan! Brother Moyan! You’re calling me so affectionately, do you like my husband?” Tian Yu suddenly said.
"You...you...you're talking nonsense! I didn't! I'll fight you to the death!" the woman in the floral cotton-padded jacket said angrily.
She stepped forward to push Tian Yu down, but Tian Yu dodged quickly and pulled her back. With a soft thud, the girl in the pink cotton-padded jacket fell face-first into the river. The other two, seeing this, shouted "Jinxiu!" and rushed forward to help the girl up and check on her. The girl in the pink cotton-padded jacket kept yelling and crying, demanding revenge and telling Tian Yu to wait, that she would never be allowed to set foot in the Zhao family again.
Tian Yu was speechless. She was pretty, and her name was nice too, Zhao Jinxiu. Her parents had put in a lot of effort, but her character was lacking. Tian picked up the wooden basin and prepared to leave, not wanting to mess around with them anymore. But after taking only a few steps, she heard a shout from behind: "Stop! You shameless vixen!"
Then Tian Yu felt someone suddenly grab her hair and pull it backward. Tian Yu dropped the wooden basin in pain and covered her hair. The person behind her pulled even harder, saying menacingly, "Trying to leave? No way! Apologize to Jinxiu right now!" Tian Yu tried to look back; it was Zhao Si's wife.
"What are you apologizing for? She fell down on her own, is it my fault? Let go!" Tian Yu glared fiercely at the other person.
Zhao Si's wife pulled Tian Yu backward with all her might, constantly complaining that it was all because of her that Zhao Si Bao didn't want her anymore, and that he had even hit her last night. Her mother-in-law also blamed him, saying it was all Tian Yu's fault and that she had to apologize. Tian Yu refused to apologize, and in a backhand motion, she grabbed the other woman's hair. The two started fighting, and before anyone knew it, two other women had joined in. As you can imagine, the scene became chaotic. In the ensuing head-grabbing and tearing, Tian Yu was no match for the three of them, but she didn't suffer a complete loss either. She managed to grab all three of them by the hair and tie them together. All four of them fell into the water. In the water, the three of them were clearly no match for Tian Yu, and Tian Yu gave them a good beating. If they hadn't been so weak from their recent arrival, they would probably have been bruised and battered. Hearing Tang Yuan's shouts of "Mother!" from not far away, Tian Yu stopped and turned around. But just then, Zhao Jinxiu got up and pinned Tian Yu down.
Before Tian Yu could react, she felt a lightness on her body, and a man appeared before her—a man with strong features, handsome face, and bright eyes. Meeting his dark, clear eyes, Tian Yu was stunned as he carried her to the shore and draped his coat over her shoulders. Tian Yu tentatively asked, "Chen...Chen...Big Brother." Chen Chong nodded. Tang Yuan ran to Tian Yu's side, anxiously asking what was wrong. Tian Yu didn't want Tang Yuan to know about this mess, so she squatted down and comforted him, saying, "Mommy's okay, play with them." Tang Yuan saw Tian Yu fall into the river again and was so frightened she almost cried. Fortunately, Tian Yu repeatedly assured her that she was fine, which calmed Tang Yuan down. Standing up, looking at the three people Chen Chong had thrown onto the shore not far away, Tian Yu felt a headache coming on, but she still prepared to go forward and explain. Chen Chong stopped her from going over. Tian Yu indicated that she was alright, but Chen Chong still followed behind her, worried.
