Chapter 95 Fugitive

On her way back, Tian Yu was lost in thought when she accidentally bumped into someone. The person was dressed in black, masked, and carrying a sword, clutching one arm as if injured. Their eyes met, and Tian Yu was startled, clearly sensing the other's murderous intent. In a flash of inspiration, Tian Yu pretended to be blind and shouted loudly, "Who's there! Who's there?"

The man in black smiled and raised his sword to kill Tian Yu. Tian Yu was terrified, but she could only pretend to be blind and stupid.

Before she could make a move, she heard the voices of pursuers nearby. The man in black dragged Tian Yu into the alley. Tian Yu cried out in alarm, but the man threatened, "Don't make a sound, or I'll kill you right now!" Tian Yu obediently nodded.

The sounds of the pursuers grew closer, and the man in black behind her, exhausted, released Tian Yu and said, "No need to pretend anymore!"

Tian Yu wanted to argue, but seeing that he was seriously injured and that the pursuers were about to search this place, she had no choice but to take him to an alley, cover him with something nearby, and hide him. Then she said to the man in black, "Shh! Don't make a sound. I'll go and lure them away."

After saying that, she looked at the few drops of blood on the ground, took out a handkerchief and wiped them haphazardly. But there was too much blood, so she stopped. She walked to the street and saw that the soldiers hadn't arrived yet. After thinking for a moment, she took out the hairpin from her hair, closed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and cut her palm, letting out a soft cry of pain. She dripped a few drops of blood in the opposite direction of the bloodstains on the street. When the pursuers were about to catch up with her, she quickly wrapped the wound haphazardly with the handkerchief and hid it under her sleeve.

"Did you see a man in black pass by here?" a soldier asked.

"Ah! You're asking me? I didn't see anyone, but a dark shadow flew by just now," Tian Yu said with a smile to the soldiers.

The officers and soldiers looked at Tian Yu, then at the few drops of blood on the ground, hesitating with doubt, when Zhao Moyan walked over from a distance and shouted, "Tian Yu, why aren't you leaving yet!"

"Ah!? Oh! They're here." Tian Yu was very surprised to see Zhao Moyan, but then she immediately understood and said happily.

Several soldiers bowed and saluted when they saw Zhao Moyan, then hurried off to chase after the man in black. Tian Yu followed Zhao Moyan back. When they passed through the alley, Zhao Moyan stopped. Tian Yu's heart skipped a beat. She secretly glanced at the clutter piled up in the alley and asked guiltily, "Who are they chasing?"

"Fugitive!"

"Is he a bad person?"

"no!"

"Then how come he's a fugitive?"

"The people the imperial court is hunting down are fugitives!"

"Oh! Let's go back quickly."

"You hurt your hand?!"

"It's nothing, just a minor injury. Let's go back quickly," Tian Yu said with a smile, her hands hidden under her sleeves.

Before Zhao Moyan could speak, Tian Yu quickly walked past him and forward. Zhao Moyan didn't stop her, glanced at the alley, and followed her back.

When Tian Yu returned, she went through the main gate and headed straight for the east courtyard without lingering. After returning to her room and confirming that Zhao Moyan hadn't followed, she breathed a sigh of relief and sat down at the table. Green Willow heard the commotion and came in, asking, "Where did Madam go?"

"I didn't go anywhere. I just couldn't sleep, so I wandered around the yard. You should go back to sleep."

"Let me get you some water to wash up!"

"No need, you should go back now!"

"Alright then, Madam, you should also get some rest."

"Okay! I understand."

After Green Willow left, Tian Yu raised her injured hand, wincing but not daring to cry out. She gently took off the handkerchief from her bundle. Tian Yu was in so much pain that tears streamed down her face. She hated herself for using so much force; now it hurt terribly.

After returning to his room, Zhao Moyan was still worried and went to the east courtyard to find Tian Yu with medicine and gauze. When he arrived at the door, he saw Tian Yu holding her hand and blowing on it vigorously. He sat down next to her, took her hand, and without saying a word, skillfully bandaged her wound, seeing her surprised expression.

"Gently! It hurts!" Tian Yu snapped out of her surprise and cried out in pain.

"Why did you save him?" Zhao Moyan didn't stop moving, but his movements were noticeably gentler, and he even blew on Tian Yu's skin.

"Ah!? You know?" Tian Yu glanced at Zhao Moyan's eyes, then lowered her head and continued, "I don't know either, maybe it was just a case of helping someone in need!"

"Seeing injustice on the road!? Do you know him?"

"I don't know him!"

"What if he's a bad person?"

"I don't know. He already saved me. Besides, he could have killed me back then, but he didn't. That means he's not a bad person."

"You cut yourself to save a stranger. Aren't you usually very afraid of pain?"

"I didn't think that much at the time, and I accidentally used too much force."

"Alright, don't do something so stupid next time." Zhao Moyan said, already wrapping Tian Yu's hand.

"I know. How is he?" Tian Yu asked, looking at her bandaged hand.

"You ran away long ago. You still have the energy to worry about others. Take care of yourself first."

How did you know where I was?

What do you think?

"Did you have someone following me?"

"Yes! But it's not to stalk you, it's to protect you."

"I don't need it!"

What should I do if I encounter danger?

"No, even if I encounter it, I will find a way to solve it myself."

"No! It's too dangerous for you to go out at night so often."

"I don't need your protection. I didn't need it before, and I don't need it now," Tian Yu said firmly, looking at Zhao Moyan.

"Alright! Starting tomorrow, I won't send anyone to follow you anymore," Zhao Moyan said softly, glancing at Tian Yu.

Hearing Zhao Moyan's answer, Tian Yu felt unhappy, and she felt even more guilty when she saw his momentary look of disappointment.

"I've already agreed to everything, why aren't you happy?" Zhao Moyan said, looking at Tian Yu.

"Happy! Of course I'm happy!" Tian Yu said with a forced smile.

"Stop running around, get some rest." Zhao Moyan said, then stood up to leave.

"Okay, you should get some rest too," Tian Yu said, standing up as well.

"If you don't want to leave a scar, remember to apply it morning and night," Zhao Moyan said, glancing at the medicine on the table.

"Okay, I've got it." Tian Yu said, picking up the medicine bottle.

Tian Yu followed behind Zhao Moyan, intending to see him out. When Zhao Moyan reached the door, he turned around as if to say something. Tian Yu was not paying attention and almost stopped again. Tian Yu looked up and stared at Zhao Moyan, wondering why he suddenly stopped. Was there something else?

Zhao Moyan looked down at Tian Yu and said, "Don't touch your hands with water."

Tian Yu blinked and nodded. Zhao Moyan reached out and touched Tian Yu's hair, kissed her forehead, and whispered goodnight in her ear before turning and leaving, leaving Tian Yu stunned. Tian Yu thought Zhao Moyan would be angry, but not only was he not angry, he even said goodnight to her. Even after he was gone, she could almost hear his voice. For the first time, Tian Yu felt Zhao Moyan's voice was so beautiful, so warm and comforting. What should she do? Tian Yu felt she was actually starting to like him. Not daring to think too much, she quickly shook her head, closed the door, and went to bed.
