Chapter 15 The Inevitable Path to Becoming a Shady Merchant

"I just love making deals with smart people." This sounded so much like something a villainous old nanny in a palace drama would say when holding someone hostage, Xi Xi couldn't help but twitch her lips. For some reason, the overly smooth rhetoric made her somewhat uncomfortable.

Xi Xi exchanged a few pleasantries with Cheng Xu, sharing their thoughts on what might happen that night, and then casually closed the private message window under some pretext.

Xi Xi herself doesn't mind socializing with people. After all, humans are social animals, just as Marx said, the essence of man is the sum total of all social relations.

Not being resistant doesn't mean being willing. After experiencing the harsh realities of the apocalypse, her defenses have become extremely strong, making it impossible for her to open up to strangers in just a few words.

Xi Xi was about to continue checking and replying to private messages one by one when she received a new transaction notification:

Adventurer Sallyman has issued a trade: 15 units of gasoline for a large skewer of cumin-flavored snake meat (mildly spicy). Do you agree to the trade?

Holy crap, that's extravagant? A fixed price, really? Xi Xi's eyes widened, stunned by the swift and decisive action. "Agreed!"

Xi Xi clicked on the nickname. She remembered this Sallyman; she was the lady who had revealed the true meaning of stamina on the public screen that afternoon.

[Adventurer Information]

Name: Sallyman

Gender: Female

Area: 777 (/)

Aside from name, gender, and region, there was no other information. What if someone had the same name as another person? Xi Xi suddenly thought of this question and became a little curious.

Xi Xi stared at the chat box for half a minute, expecting Miss Sha to say something, but seeing that there was no response, she had no choice but to give up.

In fact, Xi Xi's initial price of 15 units of gasoline was an inflated price. She had already planned that when the buyer tried to bargain, she would use consumer psychology to pretend to negotiate and eventually reluctantly lower the price to around 12 units.

"Now I've really become a shrewd businessman..." Xi Xi rubbed her temples helplessly. But then she thought again and began to doubt herself. Could it be that she had priced it too low?

She wasn't a sensitive or suspicious person before, but the cruel side of the world slowly emerged under the baptism of the apocalypse, presenting her with one unexpected twist after another.

Those promises that we once thought would never change, like sandcastles on a beach, were easily washed away by the waves of cruel reality.

The departure of her parents, the betrayal of her relatives, the shattering of her dreams... Every fall and rise was like a sharp carving knife, leaving marks, deep or shallow, on Xi Xi's originally smooth and flawless heart.

So, Xi Xi had no choice but to think more. She frowned and returned to the public chat with some doubt, and began to study the historical chat records, trying to judge a reasonable market price based on the conversation in the public chat.

The chat was a mess, and after much deliberation, the only conclusion was that food was indeed a scarce commodity. Although a single day's sample data couldn't accurately predict the probability of obtaining gasoline, Xi Xi believed that a price of 15 units of gasoline was still too high, both logically and reasonably.

It seems I was indeed overthinking things; this time I really did unintentionally become a swindler. But so what? Xi Xi didn't think it was a big deal. Transactions are supposed to be mutually agreeable, and besides, the game world is inherently a dog-eat-dog world.

Having figured this out, Xi Xi calmly turned off the light screen and went to prepare her snake bone soup.

The sky was gradually darkening, and the temperature at this time could be described as "pleasant," somewhat similar to late autumn in the original world.

The snake bone soup had already turned milky white. Xi Xi added a little salt and pepper, then took out a spoon from the stainless steel lunchbox, scooped up a spoonful, and tasted it. The rich broth instantly filled her tongue, with a flavor between eel soup and crucian carp soup. As soon as she got close, a rich fishy aroma wafted up.

Perhaps because Xi Xi added the instant noodle seasoning packet and dehydrated vegetable packet, the soup base subtly presented a different flavor, as if it contained the essence of the sea, making it irresistible.

Xi Xi was very satisfied with the snake bone soup.

What I was even more satisfied with was the insulated food container I got in exchange for Liu Yunyan. The container was surprisingly large, about 2 liters in size.

She took out the middle compartment of the food container and looked at it from left to right. She felt that the compartment was almost the same size as the stainless steel lunchbox she bought from the convenience store.

Xi Xi fished out the snake bones and threw them into the fire. Then she poured the stewed snake bone soup into a thermos, easily filling it up and still having quite a bit left over.

The small iron pot may not look large, but it can hold a lot. Xi Xi added some more water to the remaining snake bone soup in the pot, and then threw in the instant noodle cake.

Soon the seafood noodles with snake bone broth were ready. Xi Xi simply adjusted the seasoning and then sat down on the ground to eat.

Night gradually blanketed the sky, and a slight breeze brought a chill, so Xi Xi had to take out the coat she had taken off during the day and put it back on.

The noodles were cooked just right, neither undercooked nor mushy, with a satisfying chewiness, perfectly complementing the delicious broth. Xi Xi slurped up the noodles while scrolling through the screen.

The public chat was filled with comments about the chill of the night, some expressing joy, some cheering, and some worrying. There were also some people quietly exchanging supplies.

Besides food, Xi Xi noticed that more and more people were asking for gasoline, and there were even quite a few people selling tinder.

Chen Yu (Ping): "Temperature for food and gasoline, quantities to be discussed privately."

Yu Wanwan : "Tinder for food, privately."
