It was already night. Xi Xi, disregarding her busy day, hurriedly went to the sewer drain. She took out the beads and tentatively paced around for a few minutes.
If we're talking about the place with the strongest odor, it has to be the sewers.
Unidentified filth still churned in the sewage ditch, as if even the air itself was polluted by it, making it damp and rotten.
She looked at the glowing bead in her hand, its surface shimmering with faint patterns, and its green light spreading outwards like ripples.
However, wherever it passed, the foul air quietly dissipated, replaced by a fresh and vibrant atmosphere.
Although the flowing sewage was still murky, the faint smell of decay had significantly diminished, and the surrounding air instantly became fresher, no longer as unbearable as before.
"Isn't this just like a super powerful air purifier?" Sallyman said slowly from behind. She took a deep sniff of the surrounding air. Apart from the slight dampness still lingering in the air, the rotten smell had indeed been reduced considerably.
Xi Xi shook her head thoughtfully. She felt that things were not that simple. If it was just about purifying the air, why were the item prompts in the game so vague?
Chu Zhiqin, who was standing to the side, seemed to be thinking silently as well. Suddenly, as if she remembered something, she looked at Xi Xi.
"By the way... before, when you were chopping at that leader of the group..." Chu Zhiqin made a chopping motion with her wrist, and said with some doubt, "when his pig's trotter rolled into the sewage ditch... did you see anything?"
Sallyman frowned, rubbing her earlobe. She pondered for a long time, but still had no recollection of it. After all, she was the one who was kidnapped at the time, and was in a complete blind spot.
Xi Xi was also completely clueless. At that moment, she was standing behind Wei Chenghao, and all her attention was focused on the three Wei brothers. After wielding the knife, she quickly grabbed Shaliman and Chu Zhiqin and ran away, having no time to care about what was behind her.
So, at that time, only Chu Zhiqin was in a positive position!
Realizing this, Xi Xi immediately looked up at her mother and encouraged her to tell her everything she had seen.
Chu Zhiqin hesitated for a moment, but finally told her speculation: "I don't know if I saw it wrong, but when his pig's trotter fell into the water, I saw ripples flowing upstream, just like when you feed fish in a park... yeah, it's like when koi swarm to grab the food..."
Xi Xi was startled and quickly asked, but Chu Zhiqin only glanced at her out of the corner of her eye before being pulled away by Xi Xi. She was truly unsure of what was going on.
"So... there are actually living things in this sewage?" Sallyman looked at the murky water with some surprise.
Xi Xi, standing nearby, couldn't help but follow Shaliman's gaze. While pure water lacked nutrients and couldn't sustain life, polluted water was teeming with germs, and what could survive in it might not be normal organisms…
However, since things have come to this point, we should at least test the waters first!
Anything is possible!
So Xi Xi quickly took out the two unused volunteer fishing rods from the RV and handed one to Shaliman.
Immediately afterwards, the two searched around and found a large rock to use as a stool, where they sat steadily in front of the sewer drain and started fishing.
"Is this...is it possible to fish without bait?" Although Xi's mother had no fishing experience, this was the first time she had ever seen this kind of "empty fishing," so she couldn't help but ask with some doubt.
Xi Xi turned around and gestured for her mother to be quiet. Then she sat up straight, adopting the posture of a professional fisherman, and stared intently at the fishing rod in her hand.
She waited quietly for aquatic creatures to take the bait, her eyes fixed on the various kinds of garbage slowly flowing in the sewage ditch.
Several times, Xi Xi felt a sudden pull on her fishing rod. She pulled with all her might, but in the end, she only managed to hook up some trash, such as dirty plastic bags or flattened aluminum cans...
Time ticked by, and just as Xi Xi was beginning to doubt that their reasoning was wrong and was about to give up, Shaliman pulled the lever back, but lost her balance and kicked a small stone into the sewage ditch.
The next second, the sewage ditch, which had been flowing in the same direction, suddenly stirred up ripples that came from afar, as if it had really attracted some creature!
The three of them were startled at the same time, their eyes widening as they stared intently at the ripples that were spreading outwards.
However, this tense scene was fleeting, disappearing without a trace in the blink of an eye, and the sewage ditch returned to its original calm in the blink of an eye, as if everything that had just happened was nothing more than a dream.
Sallyman belatedly pulled off the instant noodle bucket that had been hooked up by the fishing rod, and then turned her gaze to Xi Xi beside her.
Their eyes met, and they understood each other perfectly. Without hesitation, Xi Xi found a pebble of roughly the same size on the ground and kicked it down.
However, this time, when the pebble fell into the water, it did not cause any special changes as everyone had expected, as if the moment just now was just a sudden coincidence.
Seeing this, Sallyman frowned slightly. After a moment's thought, she bent down again, picked up a pebble, and threw it into the water with all her might. The result was the same; apart from splashing a few drops of water, nothing happened.
"What we can confirm now is that there is indeed something in this water." Xi Xi lowered her voice and whispered to her mother and Shaliman, "Fishing requires patience, and it is common to not catch anything for a while."
