Li Jinshao (Xiao Ji): "Sorry, I've been on the road and just saw the message."
Li Jinshao : "I have reached the first star on the survival roadmap."
Li Jinshao : "The good news is that this is an island, and there are reefs around it that keep out the big waves, so it's very safe."
Li Jinshao (Xiao Ji): "The bad news is that this is not a refuge, but just a deserted island."
...
Deserted island... Xi Xi pondered for a moment, then closed the chat window with Li Jinshao and returned to the private message interface.
In the temporary team, the Liu sisters were still nowhere to be found, and Xi Xi's mood became inexplicably heavy. She frowned and anxiously clicked to open the personal interfaces of Liu Enxi and Liu Yunyan one by one. Seeing that their avatars had not turned gray, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
That night, Chu Zhiqin and Xi Xi took turns driving at high speed. Although they both drank Lingchi coffee, they hadn't slept enough, and by the next morning, neither of them had fully recovered their energy.
The icy seawater kept crashing against the walls, and the cold sea wind howled past, but everything inside the RV was peaceful and comfortable.
Aside from the endless bumps and waves of impact that kept the car veering off course and forcing it to detour and readjust, the entire trip was relatively smooth.
"The rain's lessening a bit, should we go back onto the bridge?" After turning back onto the main road for the twelfth time, Chu Zhiqin had to turn back and look at Xi Xi. Going back and forth like this was taking too much time…
“Goodbye,” Xi Xi shook her head, gazing at the suffocating dark clouds outside the window. “Have you forgotten about that car? The bridge might be worse than the sea. With waves this high, falling from such a height would be certain death…”
Another huge wave crashed against the car body, making a dull sound.
The car suddenly tilted 45 degrees to the left as the waves crashed, and a little white duck that was taking a nap slid down the carpet to the corner of the wall, quacking loudly in fright.
Chu Zhiqin nodded slightly. Her face was pale, her lips were cracked, and her eyes were bloodshot. She looked quite frightening. The long-term tension and fatigue had pushed her to her limit. After this wave, she started to feel carsick again.
"I...I'm going to take some motion sickness medicine, you drive." Chu Zhiqin covered her mouth tightly with her hand as she struggled to stand up. Before she finished speaking, Xi Xi reacted quickly, rushed to the driver's seat, sat down steadily, and firmly gripped the steering wheel.
In the face of such a raging storm, it is impossible to control the vehicle using a constant-speed automatic driving system. Maintaining the vehicle at high speed in such harsh conditions would require an enormous amount of physical exertion.
Even Xi Xi, who possessed the pillow praised by Gushi Hypnos, couldn't help but show signs of fatigue. The 25 stamina bonus was fleeting, quickly used up.
This was the first time since the beginning of the game that Xi Xi had panicked about not having enough stamina. She couldn't help but scratch her messy hair anxiously.
When the first rays of dawn pierced through the clouds, Xi Xi thought she was hallucinating.
In the gaps between the rain and the waves, the cross-sea bridge that should have stood between the sea and the sky now looked like a spine bitten off by a giant beast, with twisted steel bars sticking out from the concrete cross-section.
Even more suffocating were the figures of people swaying on the bridge, with at least a dozen black dots waving their clothes at the broken section.
"My God, the bridge is broken?!" Chu Zhiqin had returned to the cockpit at some point, wiping her mouth with a towel in her hand, her complexion much better than before. "Hey!? There seems to be someone over there!"
Xi Xi naturally saw it.
The RV was still violently jolted by the surging waves, and from the driver's seat, she could clearly see the wreckage of cars under the bridge piers.
The car hood was upside down, embedded in a thicket of steel bars—a gruesome sight. A baby's blue onesie floated out of the trunk. The cries for help were broken into fragmented syllables by the wind, like dull knives ripping at eardrums.
"We can't stop." Her eyes darkened, and she spoke slowly, her voice slightly hoarse.
Chu Zhiqin hesitated briefly, then responded softly in agreement.
Given their current situation, they can barely take care of themselves, let alone help others. This is a survival game, not disaster relief!
As the RV was being swept along by the tide towards the broken bridge, Chu Zhiqin saw a woman in a yellow raincoat suddenly climb onto the railing and raise the swaddled baby as if to throw it.
"She's gone mad!" Xi's mother's fingernails dug into the seatbelt, her face instantly draining of color. "The child will die!"
Xi Xi's temples throbbed; she hated this kind of tactic of using children to threaten people the most! With a determined heart, she slammed on the gas pedal, the RV carving a dangerous arc on the crest of the wave, and she coldly pushed the accelerator to its maximum.
For a long time afterward, neither the mother nor the daughter spoke, seemingly affected by the group of people on the bridge, and their mood inevitably became somewhat depressed.
Ultimately, they had no time to care about anything else; they were busy traveling and catching up on sleep, then traveling again, their lives constantly changing.
Around noon, time was so tight that there wasn't even time to sit down and have a proper meal. Or perhaps it was because the waves of emotion crashing over her mind that Xi Xi lost her appetite and desire to eat.
However, to conserve her strength and avoid risks, she had no choice but to hastily find some chocolate and some tangerines that she had just harvested a few days ago, thinking of using these foods to make do with her hunger.
"Head northeast." Upon reaching the fork in the road, Xi Xi opened the escape route map and examined it carefully again. "The road ahead is all straight; there won't be any more forks. By the way, Li Jinshao said there are reefs around that deserted island."
