Chapter 242 Shedding the Disguise

“Li Zhongmin?!” Xi Xi blurted out almost instinctively.

Now it was "Wang Dashan" and "Cuihua's" turn to be shocked. They both stopped in their tracks and looked at Xi Xi in disbelief.

Xi Xi looked at "Cuihua" who was still wearing a mask. Although she still looked like a rural woman, there was a strange sense of familiarity in her eyes and brows: "Then you are... Su Qing?"

Li Zhongmin was the captain of Xi Xi's supply team in his previous life. He taught Xi Xi many survival skills. He and his wife Su Qing were Xi Xi's only warm memories in the apocalypse.

The reason Xi Xi targeted the Wei Chenghao brothers was because in her previous life, Su Qing died at the hands of a group of thugs while trying to protect her.

Tears streamed down her face without warning. Xi Xi choked up a little. She absolutely could not be mistaken. The "Wang Dashan" in front of her was clearly Captain Li Zhongmin!

"Did we...know each other before?" Li Zhongmin froze on the spot, trying very hard to identify the girl in front of him, but still couldn't recognize her. He couldn't help but look at his wife, Su Qing, standing to the side.

Su Qing also stared wide-eyed, shaking her head somewhat at a loss. She was still disguised as a middle-aged peasant woman, and her appearance at this moment looked rather comical.

“It’s me! I’m your…” Xi Xi paused, then realized that in this life they were still complete strangers, never having crossed paths before, “…a loyal fan!”

"Yes, that's right! I'm your loyal fan!" Xi Xi made up a reason on the spot.

Chu Zhiqin, who was standing to the side, had naturally heard about Li Zhongmin and Su Qing from Xi Xi, and couldn't help but feel worried for Xi Xi. At this moment, when she heard her daughter making up nonsense, she almost stumbled and fell.

"Oops, I lost my balance..." she tried to change the subject to help Xi Xi out of the awkward situation.

But just then, Xi Xi had a sudden inspiration and started to explain herself: "I've watched your live streams! They're so good! I even learned some self-defense techniques from watching your live streams!"

Xi Xi suddenly remembered what Su Qing had told her in her previous life: before the apocalypse broke out, during the most difficult time of life, Li Zhongmin and Su Qing had considered becoming self-defense bloggers, but because they didn't have much traffic, they had to give up in the end.

"However, I'm sorry to say, I was a student back then and didn't have much money, so... I never gave you any tips."

To increase credibility, Xi Xi added a sentence.

Just kidding. With Li Zhongmin's meticulous personality, what if he suddenly asked her what her ID was? Wouldn't that expose her?

Their little live stream room didn't get many viewers to begin with; you could probably count the number of fan IDs they could remember on one hand!

Xi Xi was feeling uneasy, but to her surprise, Li Zhongmin and Su Qing actually believed it! After all, there are very few people in the world who can accurately call out their names, recognize their faces, and even know about their failed experience in starting a live streaming business!

They held Xi Xi's hands, their eyes brimming with tears, and began to speak, their emotions running high.

"I never expected to run into fans here! My God, this is too surreal..." Li Zhongmin's dark face suddenly lit up with joy. He patted Xi Xi's shoulder, and for some reason, tears welled up in his eyes.

"Don't interrupt! I haven't finished yet!" Su Qing pushed Li Zhongmin irritably, then held Xi Xi's hand tightly and said, "I knew I felt a strange sense of familiarity with you! It turns out we were destined to meet! It's already incredibly lucky that we bumped into each other, and I never expected that our views on good and evil would be so similar!"

Su Qing was quite trusting, so she immediately let down her guard and began to tell Xi Xi and Chu Zhiqin how Wang Chenzhong and Wei Chenghong had kidnapped and threatened her while she was in the toilet, and how they had held a knife to her neck to force Li Zhongmin to hand over the supplies.

“What’s even more upsetting is that they didn’t even spare the corpses…” Li Zhongmin continued Su Qing’s words with some indignation.

It turned out that when Li Zhongmin and Su Qing were driving close to the island, the cross-sea bridge behind them was hit by huge waves during the typhoon. One of their cars was lifted high by the waves and then crashed heavily into the sea.

That was Li Zhongmin's elder brother's family. Their child was only in high school when the entire family of three perished in the natural disaster.

After a difficult search, Li Zhongmin finally found only his niece's body floating in the sea. By then, her body had become bluish-purple and swollen, a gruesome sight.

These shocking signs all speak to the suffering my niece endured before her death; clearly, she died from drowning.

There was no funeral, no coffin, not even a tombstone.

Li Zhongmin finally decided to use the old car refrigerator he used for storage as a coffin. He originally planned to bury his niece in a peaceful mountain cave, but unexpectedly, he ran into Wang Chenzhong and Wei Chenghong...

"It's all my fault. The fresh water in the car was almost gone, and I thought we could find some fresh water on the island..." Su Qing suddenly covered her face and burst into tears, her voice trembling. "If I hadn't insisted on taking this route, we wouldn't have encountered the typhoon, and my brother's family wouldn't have died..."

"Not necessarily." Xi Xi patted her shoulder and comforted her softly, "Even if you don't take this route and don't encounter a typhoon, you will still encounter an earthquake, and the outcome will only be more tragic."

"What do you mean?" Li Zhongmin suddenly became serious. He instantly recalled Xi Xi's calm and composed demeanor during the earthquake and a guess formed in his mind. "You mean to say that this earthquake was inevitable?"
