Chapter 277 Getting on the Right Path

Luo Qian originally thought that leaving her post without permission would result in a severe scolding from Rui Xiaomin, but to her surprise, Rui Xiaomin seemed preoccupied and did not notice her. Instead, she was startled by Luo Qian's sudden outburst.

She turned her head and looked at Luo Qian in surprise, then suddenly took a step back and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Luo Qian's mom, where did you go? Why didn't you reply to my messages? The charcoal in the car is all gone, and I've been looking for you for ages!"

The surrounding laborers immediately looked over. Although they couldn't understand the language, they could understand most of what Rui Xiaomin was saying from her tone.

It seems Rui Xiaomin didn't see through their actions... Luo Qian quickly gave her husband and son a wink, then lowered her head and followed Rui Xiaomin's back as she walked out.

Fearing the Emperor's "anti-evil" special ability, Luo Qian knew she couldn't let her superiors know that they had been using torture on the prisoners of war at this critical juncture.

Xi Yunchen packed up his fishing rod, feeling resentful, while Xi Zhantao was even more furious that Rui Xiaomin had ruined their big plan.

This traitorous woman, with her few slang phrases of Japanese that she picked up from movies and TV shows, fawns over the fat old Japanese man. She's clearly just a lowly plaything, yet she actually thinks she's half a master.

Isn't he always pretending to be learning Japanese on his phone? Why is he making such a fuss about speaking Chinese today? What's he up to?

Xi Zhantao spat. This damned woman was clearly a bully who preyed on the weak. She thought, "Let's see how easy it is to manipulate this family of three!"

"Hurry up! It's time to get going!"

Before long, the burly men from the logistics team began impatiently urging them on again. They shouted gruffly, their sharp eyes sweeping over all the lower-level laborers.

Upon hearing the urging, the laborers immediately stood up alertly, not daring to delay in the slightest, for fear that the burly men would seize on any excuse to beat them severely.

Xi Yunchen and his son, who were originally looking for another opportunity to torment Cheng Xu's parents, had no choice but to abandon that idea for the time being after seeing this scene. With so many people watching, carrying out a vigilante attack was virtually impossible.

A day passed quickly, and as dusk painted the ice plains red, the convoy set up camp at the broken bridge.

The campfire cast a red glow on the windows of the stolen van. Search team leader Miyano distributed the stolen whiskey to his subordinates, earning them a chorus of gratitude.

"Let's go, Ironhead," Miyano said to the patrol captain beside him, slightly adjusting his glasses as if hinting at something. Then the two avoided the crowd and returned to the car.

"A great day! I heard we intercepted quite a few cars!"

"Mr. Miyano even brought these over, everyone take a look!!"

"Oh dear, is this something we can even eat?! Amitabha!"

"Mr. Miyano, you are so... I am so grateful!"

"I'm going to start eating!"

...

At night, as a haggard-looking middle-aged man stuffed a pack of cigarettes into the guard's shirt pocket, several drunken islanders sat around a large bonfire, with bottles of liquor scattered all over the ground.

The temperature dropped to a new low, and the cold night wind howled, making people shiver. Unfortunately, it was their turn to be on duty today.

Fortunately, Miyano gave us a few bottles of alcohol, which helped to make the ordeal less unbearable.

"You must be Mr. Fujishima, the logistics team leader! It's a pleasure to meet you. This is just a small gift from us," the middle-aged man who presented the gift said to Fujishima Taro in a low voice, his tone full of respect.

"Newcomers?" The drunkard, reeking of alcohol, looked at the middle-aged man, then at the middle-aged woman behind him. Both of their faces were covered in bruises, making it impossible to discern their features. "Oh... I remember now, they're the man and woman we caught last night, right!"

Xi Yunchen went way too far... he beat the guy to a pulp! He's a complete mess, neither human nor ghost...

Fujishima Taro tapped the cigarette pack in his pocket with his fingers, and surprisingly, the plastic seal was still intact: "Tsk, not bad!"

After saying that, he briefly introduced the three members of the patrol team, "Looks like his service period was over and they released our subordinate. I heard he was a tough nut to crack, but I didn't expect him to submit to the Yamato Guard so quickly!"

"Little China, what tough nut do you think you can crack?"

Hahahahahahaha

The laughter of the patrolmen sounded particularly jarring in the quiet night.

Looking at the "Logistics Team Laborers" badges on their chests, Fujishima Taro couldn't help but laugh out with a hint of sarcasm.

Xi Yunchen did a good job too. See, these two country bumpkins figured it out so quickly and stopped being so stubborn.

"Report to the logistics team tomorrow morning. You're all free tonight, so go." Fujishima Taro said a few words to them, then waved his hand, dismissing them.

He was always very tolerant of "sensible" workers.

"Captain, are you playing dice?" The middle-aged woman with bruises and swelling suddenly poked her head out, seemingly very interested in the game.

"She's just a low-level laborer, this is way too much..." Fujishima Taro glanced impatiently at the woman's disgusting bluish-purple face until she pulled four frozen potatoes out of her pocket.

The potatoes weren't big, but each one was plump and fresh, without even a single sprout.

"Hey, you've been hiding so many!"

"Good heavens, you've been hoarding quite a bit!" Fujishima Taro snorted, speaking in a slightly teasing tone, but his words carried a hint of a high-sounding threat.

His gaze darted back and forth between the potatoes on the table and the middle-aged couple in front of him.

Seeing this, the middle-aged man made a move to pull his wife away, but his wife immediately gave Captain Fujishima a fawning smile:

"I just wanted to give you some fun, Captain! How about this, let's make a bet. Win or lose, these potatoes are all yours, what do you say?"

It turned out to be a different kind of "bribery." Fujishima immediately understood the middle-aged woman's unspoken meaning.

"Fujishima-kun, let's have her liven things up!"

"Yeah, it doesn't really matter to us brothers!"

The patrol team's underlings were only there for the night shift and had never been bribed before. But when they saw the frozen potatoes, their eyes lit up, and they quickly tried to persuade Fujishima, afraid he might disagree.

Someone offered him a way down the stairs, and Fujishima Taro naturally didn't object. He pretended to be generous, saying he didn't want to play and was doing it all for his brothers, but his hand obediently took away one of the largest frozen potatoes.
