Chapter 45 Strange Things

In less than 0.1 seconds of falling from the top floor, Gao Yang stretched out his hands and grabbed the windowsill on the sixth floor, instantly hanging outside Wu Mei's son's window.

He used his arms to pull himself up in a similar motion to a pull-up, and then he could see the scene inside the room clearly.

Although it was summer, the windows in the room weren't closed very tightly, probably for good ventilation.

Following the scent, Gao Ang had located the ring in the second drawer of the bedside table.

Perhaps overwhelmed with grief, Wu Mei's son slept soundly until Gao Ang took the ring and climbed out the window without him noticing.

I gently closed the window, leaving a crack just like before. I looked at the ground; there was nothing in it, just a patch of grass.

With a sudden release of his grip, he plummeted straight down.

"Thump"

The sound of a heavy object falling to the ground was exceptionally clear in the quiet night. After landing, Gao Yang cleaned up the traces and confirmed that there was no obvious evidence of his own shoe prints at the scene before speeding up and returning to his car at super speed before the people in the community could react.

In just a short while, property security guards arrived, shining flashlights around, but they didn't find anything particularly unusual or anything that had fallen.

"That's not right, I definitely heard a sound."

"Yes, I also saw something fall out of the window."

"What is that?"

"I didn't see clearly. When I opened the window and went down to look, there was nothing there."

Thirty minutes later, the neighborhood returned to calm.

Gao Ang then started his beat-up car, paid the parking fee, and drove off in a haughty manner.

While he was doing these things in Wu Mei's son's neighborhood, Xia Weiwei and Lillian were also talking at home.

"Any leads on those bastards?"

A silk nightgown perfectly showcased Lillian's graceful figure, and she would occasionally tug at the neckline to reveal more of her fair skin.

Xia Weiwei was already used to her provocative behavior. Annoyed, she pushed away the woman's hands that were roaming over her body and said irritably:

"It's not that easy, so much time has passed..."

"If you ask me, it's because your crime-solving methods are too conservative. You've already brought them to your doorstep, yet you're still hesitant and afraid of this and that. If this were in England, I would have already paid to have them killed."

“The national conditions are different, and besides, I am now a person within the system, so those methods are inappropriate.”

Slapping away the groping hand that was reaching for her private parts, Xia Weiwei glared at her fiercely, "Can't you just behave yourself?"

"Hehe, I just haven't seen you in a long time and I've been missing you... By the way, if it's inconvenient for you, I can help you. Just send me the photos of those people and I'll make sure to take care of them completely."

If it were the Xia Weiwei of the past, she might have accepted her suggestion without hesitation. She wasn't short of money, and if spending money could avenge her parents, she would definitely do it.

But now she has been working at the municipal bureau for several years. Although she has not been on the front line, she has handled too many cases, including crimes of passion, revenge killings, crimes of passion, and manslaughter.

Behind every brutal case lies a heartbreaking and embarrassing ethical dilemma.

Over the past three years, she has learned restraint and to handle cases according to the law. Her enemies are currently at large, but she firmly believes that one day she will personally bring them to justice, if they are still alive.

"I have the photos, but you can't do anything reckless. Let me know as soon as you find any clues."

I had to remind her several times before I finally showed Lillian the suspect's photo.

She shouldn't have given Lillian these photos, but this hatred had tormented her for three years. Although she was now able to go out on field missions, she was still far from qualified to go abroad to track down these criminals. She had to find some outside help.

"Also, if they are caught, they must not be injured or maimed; they must be punished by law."

"Don't worry, I'll bring them back myself, and you can cut their flesh and bleed them dry, piece by piece. But speaking of which, how come you were convinced so quickly this time?"

Lillian had made this suggestion more than once, but Xia Weiwei had always firmly rejected it without hesitation.

"People change as they experience more, and some things are far more complicated than they seem. Even with my parents' deaths, I doubt whether these people were the ones who did it."

"You mean someone framed them?"

Lillian asked in surprise, then lunged forward and pulled Xia Weiwei's plump body into her arms.

After struggling for a moment, Xia Weiwei knew she couldn't escape the clutches of this female hooligan. Helplessly, she pinched her ample breasts and continued, "I always feel there's something strange about this. It's like someone set a trap, waiting for my parents and these people to meet, and then they stirred things up, making these people think my parents discovered their deal, so they could kill my parents."

What is their purpose?

"I don't know. If it was about money, our family business has already fallen into my hands, so they should have come to me, but they didn't."

“Because you’re a cop, baby!” Lillian pinched her soft cheek and teased.

"You think those outlaws care about my identity?"

Lillian nodded in agreement, "That's true. In England, let alone a business as large as yours, even if it were shrunk ten or a hundred times, I reckon those thugs would still dare to make a move."

“Didn’t your father invest in many other industries? Could it be because of these?” Lillian changed the subject again.

"Probably not. He likes to help young people with ideas, and he basically doesn't expect anything in return. He just wants to break even. I haven't really been involved in those things these past two years..."

Xia Weiwei has never visited any of the companies she invested in. She was afraid that seeing anything related to her father there would trigger painful memories and make her feel bad.

"You're still so careless. Here's something for you to see."

Lillian tapped her head, opened a document on her phone, and handed it to her.

"'The Longevity Project'? What is that?" Xia Weiwei stared wide-eyed at the four large characters on the screen.

She suspected that this was just something Lillian was using to amuse herself. What era is this? People still pursue immortality? Are they out of their minds?

"Don't look at me with suspicion. This is a biological research project that your father invested in. I came from Kyoto this time on behalf of LS Group to discuss a collaboration with this studio."

Next, Lillian told Xia Weiwei everything she knew, without missing a single word. Of course, that's what she said; whether she hid anything or not, only heaven knows.

"Stop. How you cooperate is your business; I won't interfere. I have absolutely no interest in any 'immortality plan,' Lillian. You should know my character. I don't want..."

"Relax, I didn't mean for you to play matchmaker. We've already signed the contract. I just wanted to give you a little hint so you know you have this business. I only found out about this studio by chance, it was your father's investment. We were just discussing some possibilities, right? Could it be that someone discovered the huge business opportunity inside, so...?"

Seeing that Xia Weiwei was a little angry, Lillian quickly tried to appease her by explaining the situation.

"Alright, we've talked enough tonight. I have to go to work tomorrow, so you should go home and rest. We can talk about other things later." Rubbing her temples, Xia Weiwei decided to end the conversation.

"Hehe, I don't want to go back, I want to sleep with you."

"Oh dear, you're being a pervert again."

"Tell me, did you fall for that cook? Or did he force himself on you?"

Lillian forcefully burrowed into the covers, ignoring Xia Weiwei's resentful expression, and continued to tease her.

"If you keep talking nonsense like this, I'll really get angry."

"Okay, okay, I won't say anymore. Let's go to sleep. Before we sleep, let me check your body..."

Gao Feng was not in a position to enjoy the two women's playful banter. Besides, even at home, he wouldn't eavesdrop on other people's conversations. These past few days, he had been training his hearing, sense of smell, and other abilities, mostly during the day, in order to avoid certain awkward situations that might occur at night, although he sometimes did encounter them during the day.

Fortunately, after seeing and hearing so much, he has become basically immune to it. He is not completely unfazed by some 'uh-huh' sounds or impact noises, but at least he won't set up a small tent on the street all the time.

Wu Mei's neighborhood is about an hour away from his neighborhood. Fortunately, there are no traffic restrictions on the elevated road at night, so it took him about 40 minutes to get home.

It was almost one o'clock by then. Upstairs was quiet, and there was nothing particularly unusual around. After closing the door, both the person and the cat seemed exceptionally energetic.

His high spirits stemmed from having acquired the ring; he had a strong desire to observe things he couldn't understand or even found intriguing.

Xiao Hua is spirited because she is a cat; the night is her day.

"Come on, let's take a look at this ring together. I have a feeling there's something wrong with it."

With a wave, Xiaohua obediently hopped onto the computer desk, curiously looking at the ring and even scratching at it a few times with her paws.

Raising its head, the cat looked at Gao Ang with a puzzled expression: What is this thing? We can't eat it.

"Eat your head, this is something you wear on your wrist. Rich people in ancient times liked these things, just like rich people today like to drive luxury cars and wear nice watches. It's just a tool for showing off."

"If you put it in your shoes, it's like eating a fish and then throwing it away, understand?"

Xiaohua ignored him and lay on the computer desk, staring boredly at the ring: it didn't look like a fish at all.

Gao Ang was too lazy to tease him anymore and focused his attention on the ring. He wanted to see just how much this thing could provoke him.

After looking at it for less than a minute, Gao Ang felt that there was definitely something wrong with it.
