Chapter 71 Trading

"You carry this thing with you when you go out?"

The two walked side by side down the stairs, but Gao Ang's heart skipped a beat.

Before going into the water, he only observed his surroundings and didn't notice the movement above him.

Although he had excellent hearing and vision, he still couldn't get used to having all his senses activated at all times.

It's not that his brain capacity is insufficient, but something just feels off.

If he did that, it would be as if all people and things were laid bare before him.

As a young man of the new era, he understands the importance that people today place on personal privacy.

He himself was no exception.

Even if others are unaware of his ability, he tries his best not to recklessly activate these senses when it is not necessary.

What's more, just before the incident, he had been focusing his attention on the eyes of his card-playing friends and their heartbeats.

"Hey, we happen to be in this line of work, who wouldn't be interested? We're always busy, we rarely get to go out and have fun. It's a good opportunity to take some photos and show them to our families when we get back, so we can show them to them."

Gao Ang nodded in deep agreement and said, "Are you afraid your sister-in-law will say you're fooling her?"

“That’s not true,” Zhang Youwei denied outright, acting as if he were the head of the household. “In our family, I’m the one who calls the shots. I mainly check the battery life and other data of the new product.”

"Oh, you make it sound so true."

"Mr. Gao, you..."

"I understand, I understand, I'll stop here and watch the video."

As they spoke, the two arrived at Zhang Youwei's room.

Zhang Youwei skillfully executed a series of operations, and an image appeared on the computer screen.

"The recording took a while, so we need to fast forward a bit."

Muttering to himself, Zhang Youwei kept moving his hands, grabbing the mouse and dragging it to the right.

"Is this video synced from the cloud?" Gao Ang asked thoughtfully.

“It depends on individual needs. If the backend is set to upload to the cloud, it will be saved in the cloud space,” Zhang Youwei continued, pulling the video back to the time of the incident. “But mine isn’t set up, you know what I mean.”

That makes sense, considering that everyone on this list is a prominent figure, including some minor celebrities.

If these pictures or videos are leaked, things will get really interesting.

"I've got it! Look!"

The image was zoomed in, and the two people stared at the computer screen without moving.

On the calm sea, a motorboat was suddenly pulled under by a tentacle that emerged from underwater.

These tentacles that protrude from the sea surface are as thick as a bowl, and they are covered with numerous suckers of different sizes.

The entire tentacle was blackish-purple, while the suckers were plump and blood-red. The contrast between the black and red made it look quite frightening.

After the motorboat was capsized, the tentacle never reappeared.

Gao Ang didn't speak until Old Hu jumped out of the water and swam over here.

"Aren't you packing your things? I heard we're heading back?"

He took a cigarette out of his pocket and handed it over.

Zhang Youwei took the cigarette Gao Ang offered and turned back to look for his lighter. He had left in a hurry and left his lighter in the card room.

After searching for more than ten seconds, Zhang Youwei finally found a box of matches, which, judging from the label, should have been brought on board the cruise ship.

In that instant, Gao Ang saw his own image on the screen.

"Damn it, these people are weirdos. They even carry drones around when they go out. They're just asking for trouble." Gao Ang thought to himself as he began to think about how to get rid of this thing.

"It's time to go back, this thing is too scary. Mr. Gao, I'm sorry, I was hoping to go sea fishing with you..."

"Safety first, there's plenty of time."

Gao Ang waved his hand dismissively and replied.

"By the way, Mr. Zhang, could you lend me one of these drones? They look really fun."

"Sure, I'll have the engineering department customize one for you. I'll use the best materials, and the battery life and camera resolution will be top-notch."

Zhang Youwei waved his hand dismissively, saying it was no big deal and immediately agreed.

"Don't look back. I think your plane is pretty good. I'm going to the Northeast next week, and it'll come in handy."

"My plane?"

Zhang Youwei was a little unsure of Gao's tactics.

As the saying goes, a gentleman does not steal what others have done right. You, Gao Ang, are a well-known figure, don't you understand this saying?

Besides, these are all second-hand items, why would you still be interested in them?

"Don't be like that, Mr. Gao. How can I give you this car? You're not going to turn back. I'll arrange something for you when we get back."

Zhang Youwei assumed Gao Ang was in a hurry to use it and didn't think of anything else.

"Alright, by the way, I heard that the company is going to select a new round of rotating board members in October. Mr. Zhang, are you interested?"

Zhang Youwei paused in his smoking, his right hand holding the cigarette trembled slightly with nervousness, and the ash from the cigarette butt scattered everywhere.

He didn't respond immediately, but pondered the meaning and intention behind Gao Feng's words.

Large companies are inherently competitive, especially behemoths like DJI.

Zhang Youwei is neither a rich second-generation nor any other kind of second-generation. He has reached his current position through his own hard work and cautious approach.

He knew the company's situation very well; besides the startup faction, there was also the venture capital faction.

The entrepreneurial faction split into two groups: one advocating a more aggressive approach, aiming to go public and cash out; the other being more moderate, advocating a steady and pragmatic approach, aiming to build a world-class drone manufacturer.

The venture capital side is also divided into two factions. Although they have both conservative and radical ideas, they share a common goal: to take as much of the chips as possible from the entrepreneurs and ideally, to sweep them out of the game.

He himself is a neutral party; to put it bluntly, he's just an employee.

Regardless of who wins, their outcome should be good. After all, the company needs people like them who get things done to grow.

But he wasn't entirely satisfied. Who would complain about having a little more hard-earned money?

With his current salary, he has a house and a car, but he also wants to buy a bigger one to give his wife and children a better life.

Staring intently at Gao Feng, Zhang Youwei was experiencing a violent internal turmoil.

He didn't know much about Gao Ang's ideas, but judging from the style of this group of investors, he should belong to the moderate faction.

If I side with him, the outcome shouldn't be too bad, right?

Even if this side loses, he should at least offer some compensation to himself, right?

But here's the problem: because this faction doesn't fight or compete, they have very little say. Can they really push themselves forward as he says?

One last question: what is he after?

"Mr. Gao, could you please state your terms?"

In the end, Zhang Youwei compromised, mainly because the high price he asked for was simply too tempting.

If I can really reach an agreement with him, it's definitely possible for me to take things further.

He had some understanding of the company's shareholding structure.

The startup team has less than 30% of the equity, while the venture capital side also has around 30%, making them evenly matched.

Apart from the shares held by Gao Feng, the rest are scattered among some untouchable individuals or funds.

And high cost became the only variable.

Whoever he supports will have more seats on the next rotating board of directors, meaning they will have greater say in the company.

To date, the Gao family has not exercised this right.

Gao Ang had no idea what was going on in Zhang Youwei's mind; he just wanted to use this temptation to get the drone.

In his view, all this nonsense about factional disputes had nothing to do with him; he just didn't want others to discover his secret.

"There are no conditions, it's just that I really love your drone."

Gao Ang picked up what looked like a remote control from the computer desk, fiddled with it in his hand, and looked back with a smile.

"I will vote for you in the October election."

On the way here, Du Yibing had already given him a brief overview of the various companies, but he didn't mention the power struggles within the companies. He only talked about the role his shares could play.

They also gave him some ideas, such as how to prove his worth and how to make his voice heard.

She once said something like: "Win over those who are not successful but have a certain real status, such as Zhang Youwei."

Although Zhang Youwei is currently working in market distribution, he has a technical background. He previously worked in programming and chip development before finally joining DJI's R&D department.

Later, due to various internal power struggles within the company, he eventually reached his current position.

As mentioned earlier, he was somewhat frustrated, which became a perfect opportunity for Gao Feng to build his own team.

Upon hearing Gao Ang's words, Zhang Youwei's eyebrows twitched violently a few times.

Although he knew that Gao Feng's eagerness to get his drone must have a bigger secret, for him, one was a drone that was neither here nor there, or a broken video, while the other was an important bargaining chip for him to climb another step up the ladder. It was obvious which was more important.

Perhaps he was just curious about the underwater monster?

"Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Gao. Here, I'll package it for you."

Zhang Youwei immediately became polite, threw away his cigarette butt, and rushed to the computer desk to get busy.

Gao Feng showed no contempt for his behavior.

People strive for higher goals, just as water flows downhill; those who have no higher aspirations are like salted fish.

"Mr. Gao, please take this. This is the instruction manual and the instructional video. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me."

The drone looks big, but once packed, it can fit in a small backpack.

"Um, how about we have dinner together tonight or something?"

Zhang Youwei pursed his lips and said, slightly embarrassed.

“Dinner? No need, I need to pack my bags. I’m going to the Northeast in a couple of days,” Gao Ang said, as if he had guessed something when he saw Zhang Youwei’s slightly disappointed expression. “But don’t worry, I won’t go back on my word, and I won’t let you down. Just wait for the good news.”

Only after hearing this did Zhang Youwei's expression change from gloomy to partly cloudy.

Their group set off from Assam early in the morning, finally boarded the ship, and hadn't had much time to play before heading back home. The round trip took five hours, with four hours wasted on the road alone.

The actual time spent stopping on the boat for sightseeing is less than an hour at most.

Instead of having fun, I got quite a few frights.

After the cruise ship docked, everyone went home.

Back at the hotel, Gao watched the video from the drone carefully from beginning to end many times.

After recalling the details in the water, a hypothesis gradually formed in my mind.
