Chapter 100 Winter Has Arrived

This simple and unpretentious life in the smelting industry continued for three months.

Sandstone City has truly entered winter.

Joey also found new enjoyment by the smelting furnace in the tobacco field.

"Joey, how did you know this little thing was so delicious?"

The bearded man was holding a roasted sweet potato in his hand. Before he could even peel it, he took a big bite out of it.

Joey couldn't say it was a memory from a past life; he could only say he saw it in a book. As for what book it was, the bearded man had no interest in asking any further.

In the dead of winter, being able to eat a roasted sweet potato oozing with syrup is simply one of life's greatest pleasures.

"Joey, you are truly a great scholar! It's a waste of your talent that you don't go to Baron City to assist the human king!"

The bearded man took a second bite and finished the whole sweet potato, then picked up another one that was still oozing syrup.

"Sam!"

Martha was a little unhappy. The bearded man was so busy eating that he didn't offer Martha a single bite.

She had just finished checking the stove fire when she saw the bearded man reaching for a sweet potato again, and couldn't help but call out to him.

"Martha, you're back!"

The bearded man immediately put on a big smile, took a sweet potato, walked over to Martha, and handed it to her.

"Hmph, you've got guts, otherwise I would have dealt with you tonight!"

Martha has always treated the bearded man this way. Although it may seem to lack the gentle side of a woman, it is just another way of showing love, and the bearded man seems to be quite used to it.

"Alright, alright, you guys keep an eye on things for a bit. I'm going to deliver some sweet potatoes to that guy Carter. These sweet potatoes are a specialty of Yantian; he really can't buy them outside!"

These sweet potatoes were grown by the Draenei themselves, but their method of eating them was simple and crude: they just peeled them and ate them raw. Although you could taste some sweetness, it was worlds apart from roasted sweet potatoes.

Martha brought a message from Carter when she returned, saying that he really wanted to try roasted sweet potatoes and asked the bearded man to bring some back for him to try.

However, the smelting work was not finished, and Big Beard and Martha couldn't leave for the time being. Joey, who was free now, took the initiative to take over the work.

When Martha heard that Joey was going back to the workshop, she naturally had no objection. After all, he was bringing food to his elderly father, so she wouldn't stop him.

The bearded man always listened to Joey and had nothing to say.

WaWa was happily munching on a sweet potato, not even having time to say goodbye.

Joey found a tray and placed six roasted sweet potatoes on it.

Martha, perhaps feeling that Joey had slighted her father, grabbed four more sweet potatoes because six were not enough.

Seeing this, the bearded man followed suit and grabbed six more, putting them on the table. However, Joey guessed that the bearded man intended to save these for himself after get off work that night.

He hasn't yet grasped the concept of being filial to his father-in-law.

The already small disc seemed a bit shaky, but fortunately, Joey's technique was steady, and the sweet potato didn't fall.

"Cartel can't possibly eat that much, but considering how hard you two have worked, I'll still send it all over!"

Joey said very firmly.

He's no longer just an employee; he's practically a boss now. He still knows how to motivate his employees and get them to willingly let him squeeze every last drop of their labor value out of them—that's much more reliable than any MBA.

After saying goodbye to Big Beard and Martha, Big Beard took Little Black and headed towards the gate of the tobacco field.

"Joey!"

When the Draenei Karl saw Joey walking toward the gate, he looked around to make sure no one was watching before waving at Joey.

That troublesome guy; looks like I'll have to find another excuse to brush him off.

"Is something the matter, dear Carl?"

Joey moved the sweet potato that was blocking her way and looked at Carl with a smile.

He hadn't been dealing with him for the past few months. Ever since he agreed to help the Draenei leave, Karl had been waiting for Joey's departure notice, but three months had passed. Many Draenei were starting to have doubts and were beginning to question Joey's promise.

"Nothing...is nothing wrong?"

"But you, where are you going with all these sweet potatoes?"

The words were on the tip of his tongue, but Carl didn't say them. He felt that pushing Joey too hard wouldn't be a wise move.

Joey hadn't expected that Carl hadn't actually asked about her departure, and suddenly found the Draenei in front of her much more agreeable.

"Oh, I'm going out for a bit. I haven't been out in ages, I'm so bored, you know, I'm a grown man, I need to take care of myself at least once a month!"

Joey didn't reveal his true purpose, after all, he wasn't that familiar with Carl yet, and there was no need to tell him everything.

"Oh, oh, oh, I understand!"

Carl's face turned red, indicating that he understood what Joey meant, but judging from his reaction, he seemed to still be a virgin.

However, after thinking about it for a moment, Joey could understand. After all, there were only about a hundred Draenei here, most of whom were male. There were only seven or eight Draenei girls around his age, and he didn't have priority in choosing a partner, so it was reasonable for him to remain single.

"Then you go ahead and get busy, I won't bother you anymore!"

After Carl finished speaking, he prepared to leave.

Joey didn't try to stop him, and watched Carl turn and leave.

Just a few steps after Karl took a few steps, Joey whispered behind him, "Winter is coming. Prepare your people!"

Carl didn't turn around. With his back to Joey, he nodded slightly and strode away.
