"Young hero!"
Joey stayed in the lair and shouted at the man, seemingly having found the key to turning the tide. His fear of the red dragon had vanished without a trace.
That doesn't seem right; the world doesn't seem to accept this title.
Joey thought about it and decided it would be better to choose another one.
"hero!"
Sure enough, as soon as Joey finished speaking, the man glanced at him with a satisfied smile on his face.
People naturally prefer to hear nice things, and this is true in this world as well.
"How can we kill this evil dragon?"
Joey didn't think that he could kill the red dragon with just this special arrow. With the wound he had just suffered, it would probably bleed for months before it died. Besides, he didn't think that ancient creatures like dragons could get tetanus. The wound should heal soon.
"You also killed this evil dragon?"
As the man spoke, he didn't forget to fire another arrow at the red dragon, which landed on the corner of its mouth once again.
"To be honest, I've come here to kill this evil dragon. It built its lair here and devoured all the nearby residents and travelers. It's truly despicable!"
Joey wouldn't reveal the truth about how he accepted the mission. If he wanted to be a hero, he only needed to tell the story of what the red dragon did, and he would just do the rest.
"So how much is your fee?"
The man put away his bow and arrows and suddenly asked about the topic in a very serious manner.
(A bounty hunter? He only does things for money?)
Joey thought to himself, "I can't pay for this myself. Since this guy is already here, he must have received a mission. It seems he's not quite worthy of the title of hero. In the end, it's just a business deal."
"A reward? Heroes, we have no reward; we are simply upholding justice!"
Joey wasn't entirely lying to him. When Meld gave him this task, he hadn't mentioned any reward. Joey assumed it was a trap set by Catherine's father to test him.
"No reward? You guys are really a bunch of good people!"
Joey was inexplicably given a "friend zone" card and felt it necessary to explain it to him.
"It's not that we're entirely without ulterior motives; this red dragon's head is a valuable item, and we plan to take it back!"
Meld said that all he needed was to see the red dragon's head; he didn't need anything else.
"Alright, let's kill this red dragon together. I only want its heart; you can take its head!"
The man was quite straightforward and didn't argue with Joey over the head.
"So what do we need to do?"
This is what Joey is really concerned about. Although a warrior has stepped forward, he doesn't plan to engage in close combat with the red dragon. He is obviously more concerned about his life.
"You all stay on the side and watch. Once he lands, attack him from his side. Do not stand near his head or tail!"
This is what the raid leader always said when we were playing the game and doing dungeons, otherwise we might get accidentally hurt by the dragon.
As for watching from the sidelines first, Joey was even happier.
"Whoosh!"
The man whistled again, and the "turtle" that had been hiding in its shell immediately disappeared. Above the man's head, an owl that Joey didn't recognize appeared, because the owl was completely transparent and its flapping wings were accompanied by a halo.
The moment the owl appeared, it charged straight at the red dragon, showing absolutely no fear; it was exactly the owl of Joey's dreams.
The man drew his bow again and released two more arrows, which pierced the red dragon's body.
"roar!"
The red dragon was enraged and opened its mouth again to gather dragon flames.
"call!"
The man rolled on the ground and easily avoided it.
No one knew what this person's background was, but he was quite powerful, which made Joey, who was just watching the show, feel envious.
But Joey was also thinking that even if this man had some skills, it seemed that he couldn't really kill the red dragon by continuing to fight like this.
Just as Joey was wondering what was going on, the man took advantage of the owl's fight with the red dragon in the air and suddenly retreated to a place where weeds had formed a small hill.
He crawled into the straw burlap sack, and no one knows what he did, but the sack, which was originally only about the size of a person, immediately rose by nearly a meter, and an enormous arrowhead emerged from the sack, also enveloped in a blue mist, even denser than the arrows he had already shot.
It seems this is a man's ultimate weapon: an oversized crossbow.
He turned the crossbow and aimed the arrow at the red dragon in the sky. At this moment, the owl seemed to have reached its limit. After the red dragon bit its body again, it suddenly fell straight down from the sky.
"call out!"
The man was decisive and did not lose focus because of the owl's failure. The huge arrow broke free of the crossbow and flew towards the red dragon's head.
Seemingly sensing the approaching danger, after defeating the owl, it turned its gaze to the man who posed the greatest threat to it, while a deadly arrow, already released from its bow, was approaching its head.
"Sizzle!"
The sound of a sharp weapon piercing flesh.
"roar!"
The red dragon let out a scream and fell vertically from the sky.
"What a pity!"
However, Joey sighed that it was a pity. The red dragon had just reacted and stretched out its wings to block the attack. The arrow only pierced its right wing, not its head.
"Go up there and attack it with all your might!"
The man had already thrown down the crossbow, pulled a short axe from his waist, and charged toward the falling red dragon.
