"What? You signed a hunter job change contract?"
Joey, who had just returned to Ashfury, went to find Archmage Meld alone, leaving the bearded man to carry the red dragon's head for the time being.
However, Meld seemed unconcerned about how Joey described how he had gone through so much trouble to kill the red dragon; instead, he was extremely angry about the little incident that occurred during the battle.
"Um... Master Medes, I'm just curious about this profession!"
(Did curiosity kill the cat?)
From Master Melder's expression and tone, Joey could tell that he was very unhappy about signing the contract, but he didn't understand why.
"Hunter? How could you sign such a dead-end job? It's a complete waste of your talent. I was planning to take you on as an apprentice when you came back!"
Melder's face was frighteningly dark.
"Take me on as an apprentice? Make me a magician?"
Joey was overjoyed.
"You've already lost your chance; you've signed the Hunter's Contract!"
"Then I'll break the contract and take control of my career!"
Melder's eyes then turned ridiculous.
"The Beast King won't let you break the contract, and the elemental forces will already reject you. You'll never have another chance in this lifetime!"
"Huh? Is this considered forced buying and selling? I can't even return it?"
"no!"
"I want to be a mage!"
"Maybe in the next life!"
Meld simply turned and left, completely ignoring Joey calling after him.
"Fine, if I can't change it, I'll just accept it. I don't believe the hunter class is that bad. I think that Reibu is pretty good!"
Joey immediately understood; he wasn't one to put all his eggs in one basket.
"Hey, what should we do with the red dragon's head?"
Joey suddenly realized that he had come to Archmage Meld to turn in a quest.
However, Meld had already walked far away, and he didn't hear what Joey said.
...
"Joey, what should we do with this head?"
The bearded man, guarding the red dragon's head, asked Joey, who had already returned.
"Let's find a big pot and stew it. I reckon Meld doesn't need this head at all!"
Joey just gave up entirely.
"Oh right, I'm going to take a shower first. I'm covered in this guy's blood, and it smells really bad!"
"Call me when it's ready!"
Joey gave Big Beard a few instructions and then turned back to his residence. Sergeant Medes stayed behind to help Big Beard, since Big Beard's head was too big to handle alone.
Back at his lodgings, Joey went straight to the bathroom and turned on the hot water. The blood from the red dragon on his body had begun to congeal, making him feel very uncomfortable.
"Little Black, wake up!"
Joey, who was about to take off her clothes, tried to wake up Little Black, but it was sleeping very soundly and didn't respond to Joey's calls for a long time.
With no other option, Joey had to lift Little Black off her shoulder and place it next to the bathtub, while she herself immediately stripped naked.
"Strange, how did this dragon blood seep into my skin?"
Now completely naked, Joey stared at her body. Her skin had turned pink, looking delicate and tender, like that of a newborn baby.
He didn't pay much attention and quickly climbed into the wooden tub.
"Comfortable!"
Joey closed her eyes contentedly; the hot water had washed away most of the day's fatigue. This hot bath was simply wonderful.
The bloodstains remaining on his body began to spread in the hot water of the wooden tub, turning the entire tub red.
Joey's head emerged from the water, the bright red bloodstains on his hair gone, though his once jet-black hair had turned reddish, but Joey didn't notice.
He reached out and wiped the water off his face before slowly opening his eyes.
Little Black was lying right next to him, but it was also soaked in dragon blood, and its fur was all twisted up from the dried blood.
"Come here, Xiao Hei, let me wash you!"
Joey got up and picked up the still-sleeping Blackie.
"Meow meow meow..."
As soon as Xiao Hei's limbs touched the water, it suddenly woke up and struggled violently in Joey's hands.
"Don't be afraid, Xiao Hei, I'll wash you up, it'll be done in a minute!"
Ignoring Xiao Hei's struggles, Joey forcibly submerged it in the water.
The already reddish water deepened in color even further.
"You need to wash your hair properly too!"
With a thought, Joey pushed Little Black's head into the water as well.
"Gurgle gurgle—"
A string of bubbles rose to the surface of the water; it seemed that Little Black had drunk quite a bit of bathwater.
"Huh?"
Joey's expression suddenly froze, because he felt that the texture in his hand was completely wrong, and the water level in the bucket was visibly rising.
He quickly released his hands and stepped back, pressing himself tightly against the edge of the wooden tub.
Although the touch just now felt quite nice, this sudden change still made him a little nervous.
"Splash!"
Suddenly, the water broke open, and a human-shaped head emerged from the water.
This was the face of a female elf, and she was very beautiful. Her hair, soaked in water, was completely plastered to her body, and her breasts, which were already half above the water, were also completely covered by her hair. Her long, slender ears, unique to elves, swayed slightly when they first emerged from the water.
Joey's eyes were glued to him, and he was no longer nervous at all.
"Are you Xiao Hei?"
Joey tried to communicate with her in Elvish, which should be a big plus for a race that considers itself noble.
