"Bang bang bang..."
Joey and the bearded man ran wildly, but failed to catch up with Catherine's group, and eventually found themselves at the gate of Tiger Stone Village.
The bearded man pounded on the gate of the village, seemingly still venting his frustration at not finding any gold coins.
"who?"
A figure emerged from the watchtower above the village gate, immediately drawing his bow and arrow, aiming it at the bearded man's forehead.
"No, no, no, they're on our side!"
The bearded man hurriedly begged for mercy. In this situation where he couldn't reach the attacker and could only passively take the beating, he would still try to adapt to the situation.
"Our own people? We dwarves don't have any of our own people in Tiger Stone Mountain!"
The archer on the watchtower had barely finished speaking when his arrow flew from the bowstring.
Fortunately, the bearded man was agile and quickly took a few steps back.
"You bastard, how come you don't recognize your grandpa?"
The bearded man was immediately enraged, his eyes glaring angrily at the archer, his beard bristling.
When Joey saw the archers on the watchtower nocking their bows again, he quickly called the bearded man back.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, my brother's words weren't very pleasant to hear, I apologize on his behalf!"
Joey waved to the archers on the watchtower as a greeting, but the archers simply retracted their bows and ignored Joey's words.
"Please inform them that Joey Brown has arrived, and that Lady Catherine invited me!"
Although the archer ignored him, Joey still politely explained his purpose. After all, he was a new employee and had to act like one, which was a necessary lesson for survival in the workplace.
"You're so-and-so?"
The archer's attitude softened slightly when Joey mentioned Catherine, but only a little, since he and Joey had no connection whatsoever.
“My name is Joey Brown, as I told Lady Catherine!”
Joey didn't like being called "So-and-so" all the time. He had been called that by his boss at work in his previous life, after all, he was a person with a name.
"But Lady Catherine only said that a human named so-and-so would be coming later, without giving his name!"
The archer seemed to be a bit stubborn; Joey's opinion on this receptionist was to fire him as soon as possible.
But he was currently insignificant and hadn't even entered the new company yet. Local officials were more powerful than distant ones, so he figured he shouldn't offend the receptionist.
"I am the person Lady Catherine mentioned. May I go in?"
"Wait!"
The archer put away his bow and arrows, waved to the gate below, and the gate slowly opened outwards.
Thanks!
Joey cupped his hands in greeting, expecting to be informed or something, but he was surprised to be let in like this.
He and the bearded man stepped through the village gate together.
"Wait, this dwarf can't go in!"
Seeing that the bearded man had followed Joey into the village, the archer on the watchtower leaped down from the watchtower and landed in front of Joey and the other man, showing that he was quite skilled.
"Hey kid, are you deliberately picking a fight?"
The bearded man was still furious, and when he was stopped by the archer, he immediately jumped out again.
Upon seeing this, five or six heavily armored warriors immediately emerged from the gate and surrounded Joey and the bearded man.
The commotion was quite significant, and the bearded man began to regret his impulsive actions.
"My brother doesn't know how to talk, as I'm sure you all can tell!"
"That's how it is. Because Lady Catherine is so forgetful, she didn't remember our names and only called me by mine. But my brother risked his life and put in a lot of effort in the battle against the orcs today, which left a good impression on Lady Catherine!"
Joey had already prepared his lie before he arrived, and he spoke it without batting an eye. He was certain that the archer wouldn't actually ask Catherine if she was telling the truth. What kind of company receptionist would ask the chairman a question? That would be going against the natural order!
"I see. You two can go in now, but you'd better keep an eye on this dwarf. He seems a bit unruly!"
The archer waved his hand, and the surrounding warriors retreated, making way for Joey and the bearded man to walk forward.
"Joey, I don't really like it here!"
The bearded man lowered his voice and said to Joey.
"I know, big companies always have a lot of rules, and it's common for them to bully newcomers. From now on, you'll follow me, talk less, do more, and we'll earn gold coins together!"
Joey thought the bearded man probably didn't understand what the big corporation meant, but he was sure the bearded man understood what he said next, because he could see the light in the bearded man's eyes.
"Joey, where do we go now?"
The bearded man's mood instantly brightened, but his question did indeed stump Joey.
Since Joey and Big Beard were newcomers and didn't know the way around Tiger Stone Mountain at all, the receptionist hadn't arranged for anyone to show them the way, which was a serious dereliction of duty. This also strengthened Joey's resolve to speak up and fire the receptionist later.
"Since we're already here, let's just wander around and get familiar with the company environment!"
With that thought in mind, Joey felt no burden and strode ahead.
The bearded man looked around, glancing here and there, and followed closely behind Joey.
"Joey, I feel like the people of Tiger Stone Mountain don't look like bandits, but more like an army."
After walking around, the bearded man saw the armory, training ground, dormitory and canteen, but the canteen wasn't open for meals yet, otherwise the two of them would definitely have gone there for a free meal.
