The next morning.
Joey woke up on the cold ground.
"Three female elves have taken over my bed! They won't let me sleep in my own bed! How awful!"
“I can understand that Chris and I just arrived, but Leviathan’s room is right next door. It’s one thing for her not to sleep in her own bed, but she won’t let me in either. I can’t accept this!”
"They call it protecting my safety, but I think they're just malicious and deliberately trying to cause trouble for me!"
Joey sat on the cold ground, looking at the three female elves sleeping soundly on the bed, especially Leviathan, who was the cruelest to him. At this moment, Joey was full of resentment.
However, what angered Joey the most was not this, but that the three female elves didn't even take off their clothes when they went to sleep last night, and went straight to bed, which dashed Joey's hopes that had been high all day.
"Huh...you woke up?"
The first one to wake up—no, the first one to wake up was Joey—was lying on the bed, still a little sleepy. Seeing that Joey had already sat up, he slowly asked.
(You woke up? Anyone would have trouble getting a good night's sleep on such a cold floor, right? I'd been looking forward to dawn all night!)
Although that's what Joey thought, she couldn't say it like that. This girl was alright, but she couldn't tell her everything. There was a shrew sleeping next to her. Maybe one day, instead of Leviathan, Joey would be sleeping next to her, and then they could have a free and open conversation about life!
"My dear adults, I was just planning to prepare a big meal for you today, wasn't I? Buying ingredients takes time, doesn't it? That requires getting up early."
Joey stood up from the ground, dusted herself off, and realized that the floor was indeed not very clean after being trampled on by four people. When she heard last night that she was supposed to sleep on the floor, Joey decided to just go for it and lay down without cleaning the floor.
"Oh, I forgot. You're so thoughtful. Do you need any help?"
She was about to get up as soon as she finished speaking, which showed that she really intended to help Joey.
"He doesn't need it, he can manage on his own!"
Before Joey could even open his mouth, Leiflia's voice followed immediately.
"You ordered a big meal, so shouldn't you ask someone to help me?"
"I've already told you, the fact that the two of them came to Grayfurnace City must not be known to anyone else. What if others see her if you let her out like this?"
"Then come and help! You've already shown up!"
Joey showed no respect to Levia, and taking advantage of their desire for a big meal, he was able to put on a bit of airs.
"Joey Brown, watch your tone. I don't have their good temper!"
Levia leaped off the bed and landed in front of Joey, bringing her nose close to his face once more, their eyes meeting.
(You shameless woman, you don't give me any face at all! I'll put two pounds of arsenic in the food later!)
Joey was indignant, but Levia clearly didn't understand one thing: in this world, chefs are not to be offended easily, especially chefs who cook for you; they are absolutely not to be offended.
"Okay! Okay!"
"I misspoke, alright? I'll go buy the ingredients by myself right now!"
Joey is a man of principle; he can bend and stretch. He'll deal with Leviathan when he's cooking.
When Levia heard what Joey said, she finally stopped targeting him, turned her head back, and slowly walked to the bedside and sat down.
"Squeak—"
Joey opened the door and prepared to leave.
"ah--"
As soon as Joey opened the door, his retinas were filled with a man's face, which startled him so much that he screamed and backed back into the room.
"It's me, Captain Joey!"
The man standing in front of the door was none other than Sergeant Medes.
Having received Marshal Kap's orders yesterday, Medes didn't sleep a wink all night, staying outside Joey's room, intending to notify him to see Marshal Kap as soon as he opened the door.
"So it's you, kid. I've made up for it quite a bit, and this is how you repay me? Coming here so early in the morning to scare people?"
Joey was already seething with anger, and since Medes had delivered himself to him, he wasn't going to hold back.
"I...I didn't...I came here..."
"Nothing? Don't you know that people can scare each other to death? I don't care what you're here for. Your captain is in dire need of someone to carry things. You, right now, come with me to the kitchen and get some ingredients!"
"But...but..."
"But what? Your captain's words don't count anymore? I'm telling you, hurry up and get this done, or you'll be in big trouble!"
Joey rarely put on airs as a captain, and suddenly understood why those managers and supervisors in his previous life enjoyed the thrill of power when they were showing off in front of him.
After hearing what Joey said, Medes suddenly realized that Joey, who was usually quite easy to talk to, was indeed his captain, and that he really did follow his orders.
However, Field Marshal Karp's orders seemed to be more important. Medes thought for a moment, and was about to speak when Levia's reproachful voice came from behind Joey:
"How much longer are we going to dawdle? Are we not even allowed to leave the house?"
Medes had no choice but to swallow his words. Marshal Garp's arrival in Ashfurnace City also needed to be kept secret, and given the special status of the elves, it was best not to let these female elves know that Marshal Garp had called Joey away.
