"Lady Catherine, I caught and roasted all of these myself. If you're not going to eat them, I'll take them all!"
Joey looked serious.
Catherine turned to Daines, wanting to confirm with him whether Joey's words were true.
“It was definitely Joey who caught them. These are all seabirds; he used breadcrumbs as bait to catch them!”
Daines handed the seagull leg to Catherine again. He understood that Joey was just joking. After spending these days together, he had a general understanding of Joey's personality.
"Consider it a purchase. When we get back, I'll definitely compensate you double!"
Catherine believes that problems that can be solved with money are not problems at all, since her father is quite wealthy.
Now that the freshwater problem has been solved and seabird meat has been added to the food supply, it's only a matter of time before they safely reach land, and that time won't be long.
Joey was initially pleased to hear Catherine say that, but now he had a different thought. Catherine's personality was unpredictable, and he didn't want to risk his life for a mere verbal promise.
"Let's put it on the tab first. I'll give you ten gold coins, and I'll collect them later!"
Joey took back the half-eaten wing and put it back into his mouth.
He felt it best to do Catherine a favor first, and then they would go their separate ways once the sailboat reached its destination, making it easier to talk if they met again in the future.
"Ten gold coins?"
Catherine was displeased that Joey would offer such a low price. It made her feel humiliated that the woman of the dignified Lord of Grayfurnace City was only worth so little.
However, Joey misunderstood Catherine's meaning, thinking that he had said too many gold coins. When Catherine asked him this, he changed his mind and said, "If you really think it's too high, we can discount it to five gold coins!"
"Five gold coins?"
Catherine suddenly felt that the meat in her hand was no longer appealing. Why was there less and less meat? Was she really that worthless? Did this bastard Joey not find out her identity properly?
Joey also started to feel aggrieved. Although he would occasionally bully Catherine, he had acted like a grandson for a long time, helped her escape from danger, and provided her with food and drink. How come he couldn't even get five gold coins?
It seems this misunderstanding is getting deeper and deeper.
"Lady Catherine, I think my five gold coins..."
Joey wanted to try and negotiate for the five gold coins as a minimum, but before he could finish speaking, Catherine interrupted him again.
"100 gold coins, no less, that's settled!"
Catherine's words struck Joey and the bearded man like a thunderbolt, creating a storm in their minds.
"1...1...100 gold coins?"
Joey and the bearded man exchanged a glance, still hardly believing their ears.
"Yes, Lady Catherine meant 100 gold coins!"
Looking at the two people in front of him who were already on the verge of tears, Daines spoke to them with great certainty.
Wow, we're rich! The boss is so generous!
"I apologize for my ignorance just now!"
"By the way, I also apologize for the trouble I've caused you along the way!"
"Come, come, bearded man, quickly kowtow to Lady Catherine to thank her for not holding a grudge, for her generosity, and for being beautiful, kind-hearted, and compassionate!"
Joey was excited. He pulled the bearded man closer to Catherine, snatched the roast meat from the bearded man's hand, put it together with the rest of the meat, and served it to Catherine.
This left Catherine somewhat at a loss. She never expected that she could subdue Joey, who had been rather arrogant towards her, with just 100 gold coins. Only then did she realize that money could be so useful, and it opened a door to a new world for her.
