Chapter 41 Odd Jobs

As Granny Mary Sue was stating the amount of the reward, she kept staring at Joey, afraid that he thought the reward was too little.

As she expected, Joey's expression clearly showed disappointment after hearing what the old woman Mary Sue said.

After all, he is not the same person he used to be. Perhaps 20 gold coins were an astronomical number to Joey before, but now that he has 40 gold coins in his pocket, it still doesn't seem worthwhile to face some unknown monster with only 20 gold coins.

Having become wealthier, I've also raised the bar for my asking price accordingly.

Just like changing jobs in my past life, I would only choose to change jobs if I could find a better one than the one I have now. Otherwise, I would rather continue to live a miserable life than impulsively think about moving to a new place.

"Because of the disappearance of the men in the village, every family is struggling financially, and my inn has been deserted for a long time. You are the first group of guests to arrive in six months!"

Mary Sue hopes Joey will listen to her explanation and be more lenient about the payment.

Joey pursed his lips, not really agreeing with this reason.

The greater the risk, the greater the reward should be. I'm not a real Good Samaritan; I can't sacrifice myself for others.

"If there's really no extra reward, offering some goods as collateral is also acceptable!"

Joey recalled that in her past life, when banks were collecting debts, a debtor could use even an old piece of clothing as collateral.

Grandma Mary Sue understood what Joey meant. She took off the pearl necklace around her neck, which didn't look very expensive, and also took off a pair of silver earrings from her ears. However, she hesitated a bit when taking off the ring on her right ring finger.

"Joey Brown!"

Catherine, unable to bear it any longer, angrily called out Joey's full name.

Surprisingly, she still remembered Joey's full name; the way she addressed him as "so-and-so" was still fresh in her mind.

"Is something the matter, dear Catherine?"

Joey pretended to be stupid, believing that he deserved all of this.

"You're right. If there's no other reward, it's only right to offer something worth a few copper coins!"

The old woman, Mary Sue, stopped Catherine from continuing to denounce Joey, then took off the ring and handed them both to Joey.

"Oh, right, there's also a silver coin!"

Granny Mary Sue suddenly remembered something, rummaged in her pocket for a while, and then took out another silver coin and handed it to Joey.

Joey gave her this silver coin this morning.

When Joey saw that the old lady Mary Sue had taken out the coin, he hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to take it or not, and suddenly felt that he was behaving like a villain.

"Big brother, isn't that enough?"

"How about... how about I give you my hair clip too? My father spent a lot of money to buy it for me!"

Little Catherine stood up, walked up to Joey, took off the mushroom hair clip from her head, and handed it directly to Joey.

"I've really become the villain!"

Joey felt a pang of regret, suddenly realizing she had gone a bit too far.

Oh, this damn kindness.

Joey even wondered if she had bumped her head when she came to this other world, because she couldn't hold on when it came to the crucial moment.

"Alright, alright, 20 gold coins it is, I don't want anything else!"

"But let me make this clear first: if we catch that guy, everything he owns is mine!"

Joey took the pink hair clip from little Catherine and put it back on her, while also returning all of Mary Sue's things.

Grandma Mary Sue thanked her repeatedly.

Catherine looked at Joey, a smile on her face that was completely different from before.
