Chapter 44 Soldier Goodman

The soldiers had been in the village for a long time, a full two months.

Vivian spent every day with him, and this period was the happiest time of her life.

The bad youths in the village stopped playing pranks on her and even greeted her with unusual politeness when they met. At first, she felt a little uncomfortable, but as time went on, she got used to it.

However, one person began to worry about Vivian. This person was none other than her mother, the woman who had raised her alone.

Because in Vivian, she seemed to see her own shadow again, the image of a future impoverished single mother raising her child alone.

"Vivian, my child, I have something I want to say to you!"

On an ordinary morning, Vivian's mother knocked on her door.

"What's wrong, Mother?"

Vivian asked a question from inside the room, then opened the door, still wearing her pajamas and bleary-eyed.

When her mother saw the door open, she immediately took Vivian's arm and pulled her into the room, where they sat together on the bed.

Vivian's mother's eyes were full of tenderness. She held Vivian's hand in one hand and gently brushed aside her slightly disheveled hair with the other.

Have you been happy lately?

Her mother looked into Vivian's eyes and asked with a loving gaze.

"Yeah, I'm really happy!"

Vivian didn't know why her mother asked that, but she couldn't hide the smile on her face.

"My mother recognized him too. It must be that handsome soldier. He's definitely a good young man!"

Her mother's smile seemed somewhat unnatural at this moment.

"Mother, do you also think he's a good person?"

Hearing her mother praise the soldier made Vivian even more excited.

"Hmm, it seems to be good. I've noticed you've been chatting and laughing with him the whole time you've been with him!"

The mother looked down at Vivian's hand, placed her other hand on Vivian's hand, and gently patted it.

"Do you think he can be my future husband?"

Vivian's cheeks were already flushed, but she couldn't wait to ask her mother the question.

"Husband? Perhaps! I just hope you can always be happy!"

Upon hearing the word "husband," the mother visibly stiffened, but Vivian was too excited at the moment to notice her mother's unusual reaction.

"Thank you, I'm very happy now!"

Vivian was like a carefree child that morning, completely unconcerned about why her mother was knocking on her door so early.

She pulled her hand away, then suddenly threw herself into her mother's arms, wrapping her arms around her mother's waist and hugging her affectionately.

"Mother, you're going to be a grandmother!"

Vivian was still happily announcing what she thought was good news, but her mother was struck dumb upon hearing it, her face turning deathly pale, though Vivian didn't see it at the time.

She had originally planned to have a proper talk with Vivian, but after hearing this news, she decided against it and instead placed her hand on Vivian's head, gently stroking her red hair.

After a short while, Vivian's mother looked down at her daughter in an extremely gentle tone and said, "This is truly good news!"

Another ten days or so passed.

One evening, Vivian ran home crying and went straight to her room.

The soldier only caught up to Vivian's doorstep and stood there apologetically.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

Vivian's mother rushed out of the house upon hearing the news, stood in front of the soldier, and questioned him about what had happened to make Vivian so sad.

"Dear Mother Vivian, I apologize for disturbing your rest!"

The soldier remained polite, but the apology on his face did not diminish.

"I just told Vivian about my plans, and she's a little unhappy!"

"So what exactly did you say?"

Vivian's mother's indifferent expression made her red hair stand out even more.

"Dear Mother Vivian, before I reveal my plans, please believe me: I love Vivian!"

“My name is Goodman, and I am a soldier at the Saibanda Fortress. My father is the commander of the Second Saibanda Knights. Before coming here, I was tasked with delivering a letter to the mayor of Gold Rush Town, but I met your daughter here, which made me forget my mission.”

"When Vivian told me today that she was pregnant with my child, I remembered my mission. I must deliver this letter to Gold Rush Town as soon as possible, then return to Saibanda to explain everything to my father, and then marry the girl I love, who is also your daughter!"

"But Vivian couldn't accept my temporary departure. After hearing my plans, she ran back sadly!"

The soldier named Goodman spoke very sincerely, but Vivian's mother chuckled and then invited him inside.

Goodman had no reason to refuse; he desperately wanted Vivian's forgiveness, so he followed her mother into the house.

"Please sit down first, I'll go and try to talk to Vivian!"

After Vivian's mother finished speaking, she turned and walked towards her room.

"Vivian, your mother has something she wants to say to you!"

"Mother, you should leave. Let Goodman leave too. I don't want to see anyone right now!"

"My daughter, I know you are very sad right now, but things always need to be resolved, and your mother will help you!"
