Chapter 47 The Fish Has Arrived

The moon and stars are few outside.

The hotel has already lit candles.

"Wake up, wake up! You're really sleeping like a log?"

Joey felt his buttocks being stomped on twice with something resembling a high heel, and he vaguely heard a woman yelling at him.

"Is she my queen?"

"Please feel free to abuse me, harder! Come on, baby!"

Joey looked like he was enjoying himself, sticking his butt out, hoping that the queen in "high heels" would kick him a few more times.

"abnormal!"

Catherine blushed, cursed, and then kicked Joey off the stool. She didn't understand Joey's last sentence at all, so she could only assume that Joey had just said something in Orcish, since she didn't know that Joey knew other races' languages.

"Oh my!"

Joey landed on his left cheek, apparently quite hard. He was about to complain that the queen in his dream had hit him too hard when he noticed a pair of boots that looked strangely familiar.

He looked up along the boots and realized that the owner of the boots was not his queen, but his old nemesis, Lady Catherine.

It's just that Catherine was wearing an unusually long dress today; otherwise, given the view from this angle, Joey wouldn't have wanted to get up at all.

At this moment, Catherine's face was flushed red, and she felt as if hot air could come out of her ears at any moment. She didn't know if it was because she was shy or angry.

"What are you doing? What are you doing?"

"My Lady Catherine, is it too much to have to endure your PUA in my dreams even when I'm sleeping?"

Joey harbored deep resentment towards Catherine for interrupting his beautiful dream, but in reality, he said this more to cover up his embarrassing behavior just now. He was certain that Catherine had seen everything he said and did, and that the lady would definitely remember it for a long time.

"Is this what you meant by pulling off something big tonight?"

"Sleep a little longer, the sun will be rising soon!"

Catherine stood with her hands on her hips, exuding a somewhat shrewish air.

Grandma Mary Sue is no longer here. I don't know if she went to sleep or did something else. After all, it's a bit difficult to ask an old lady to stay up all night.

"My dear Lady Catherine, I risked my life tonight to find that thing whose true form I've never even seen. Can't I even get a little more sleep?"

"Does it really warrant you saying that to me? You're going a bit too far as a leader in how you treat your employees!"

Joey slowly got up from the ground, dusted himself off, and complained a little about Catherine's strenuous work.

Whether it was because Catherine, the boss who had been in arrears with wages for a long time, had a change of heart or felt sorry for what had just happened, her expression suddenly changed, and she looked at Joey with great tenderness.

("Has this naive girl finally come to her senses? Has she been moved by my willingness to risk everything to seek the truth? Is she finally granting my small request to sleep together for one night while we're all alone?")

It seems Joey's dream hasn't ended yet; he's still dreaming about spending the night with Catherine. But he'll soon realize that it's just wishful thinking on his part.

"Joey, I apologize for my recklessness just now. Given the danger of your actions tonight, I've decided not to go with you. I'm going to sleep now, and I hope to see you again tomorrow morning!"

Catherine's words were gentle, but Joey found them particularly harsh and was extremely disappointed.

He hadn't expected Catherine to say that. Although the last sentence sounded like a concerned statement, it felt strange in light of what she had said before.

"My dearest Catherine, goodnight and sweet dreams!"

Joey acted like a gentleman, slowly retreating and walking out of the hotel alone.

The incessant chirping of insects made the deep night even more eerie.

Joey stood at the hotel entrance, hesitating for a long time, but didn't move an inch.

"Damn it, what kind of mess is this? I was inexplicably transported here, and not only was I not allowed to become a nobleman, but I couldn't even find a decent job. Now I have to risk my life to do this low-paying work. What did I ever do to deserve this?"

Thud—

The sound of a door closing came from the hotel, presumably because Catherine had already climbed into that warm, round bed.

By this time, all the candles in the hotel had been extinguished, and Joey's figure blended perfectly into the night.

Although the moonlight was still there, it was difficult to shine into the village tonight. The uneven houses and dense woods blocked it quite well, with only a few scattered rays of light getting through.

"Could we really be encountering a ghost tonight? The atmosphere is getting more and more eerie!"

Joey glanced around, feeling like she'd seen this scene in horror movies from her past life.

He drew his long sword from his waist and held it horizontally in front of him, as if only in this way could he find the courage to continue forward.

"I'm going all in, fuck it!"

Joey growled and headed toward Vivian's house, which he had visited during the day, carrying his longsword.

Just after he left the inn's door, the wooden door slowly opened again, and a head peeked out. She looked outside and then followed in the direction Joey had disappeared.

Joey stood in front of Vivian's yard, holding a longsword in his hand.

He didn't go inside because the wooden house looked particularly eerie at night, like a ghost castle.

The house had been uninhabited for over a year and looked dilapidated. Now, it lacked vitality, and on this unusually quiet night, the dappled moonlight falling on the house only added to the eerie atmosphere.
