Chapter 61 Goodman's Bones

"Follow me!"

Joey didn't explain the reason to them, but turned around and continued walking towards the original cabin.

Without the slightest hesitation, the bearded man quickly followed.

The other six people exchanged glances and followed suit.

“Mr. Joey, that cabin over there is the mayor’s headquarters. It wouldn’t be appropriate for us to come here so abruptly!”

Sergeant Medes followed behind Joey, and they could now see the secluded cabin. He cautiously reminded Joey of something.

"With those tough guys out of the picture, they probably won't be in the mood to continue human trafficking for a while. This cabin will mostly be watched over by those two big oafs!"

Joey didn't care at all. The leading soldier was still in the mayor's villa, and he didn't take the two big, dumb guys left behind here seriously.

After hearing Joey's words, Sergeant Medes winked at Maywus and Uriel beside him, and the two of them crept towards the room.

"Coo coo!"

A short while later, a coded signal came from the direction of the wooden house.

Joey understood and led the group quickly toward the cabin.

The cabin door was wide open, and Mevs and Uriel stood at the door. Seeing that Joey and the others had arrived, they invited them inside.

The two burly men inside were lying on the floor, snoring, apparently having been drugged.

Joey actually planned to kill them directly. He didn't think it would alert the enemy, because he had already had this idea after learning that Goodman was dead.

However, Joey didn't say anything at this point. Seeing that the two burly men had been subdued, he turned around and ran outside to start looking for the ginkgo tree.

Although the others didn't understand what was going on, they all came out and watched Joey looking for something in front of the house.

"Joey, what did you lose? Shall I help you look for it?"

The bearded man enthusiastically approached Joey, wanting to help.

"Found it!"

The ginkgo tree was located in a rather unusual spot, right in front of the cabin. It wasn't very tall either, so it was easy to find.

"Big Beard, dig a hole!"

Joey pointed to the ginkgo tree and gave a brief instruction to the bearded man.

Clearly, the bearded man was quite adept at digging holes; he had already demonstrated it at the bridge construction site in Linhai Town.

However, he didn't run to the ginkgo tree immediately, but instead ran back into the wooden house, because he had just seen the tools for digging a hole inside—an iron shovel.

The other six seemed to have anticipated something. Before the bearded man even came out, they rushed forward and began digging with their hands.

Joey didn't say anything. At this moment, he felt it was better to keep quiet. After all, their camaraderie was something he, as the temporary captain, couldn't compare to.

The bearded man ran out with a shovel, and seemed a little surprised by the scene before him, mistakenly thinking that they were in a hurry and were rushing to help him.

He picked up his shovel, ready to join in.

But as soon as he got to the six people, Orff shoved him away viciously.

"Hey bearded guy, come sit down for a bit, let them do the work!"

Joey sat quietly to one side, and let the bearded man come over as well.

Although the bearded man was puzzled, he didn't ask. He gently placed the shovel behind Orff and sat down next to Joey.

"How is Catherine?"

Having finally found some free time, the bearded man asked about Catherine's whereabouts, since he had risked his life to cover her escape.

"She's doing great, probably living a life of luxury now, and has completely forgotten about the money she owes us!"

It would have been better if this topic hadn't been brought up, because once it was, his anger level immediately spiked.

"Although I quite like gold coins, Catherine seems like a nice person, it's good that she's alright!"

The bearded man suddenly seemed to have changed his ways, and actually placed the gold coins after Catherine's.

"As expected, women only slow down a man's speed in drawing his sword. They've really misled my bearded brother!"

Joey didn't say it aloud, lest he become the one who was greedy for money, while the bearded man had a good persona, which Joey couldn't accept.

"Alright, alright, I know you're a good person. Next time I see her, I'll pass on this message for you!"

Joey wasn't as generous as Big Beard. He kept a detailed record of all the unpaid fees. Including the emotional distress caused by Catherine's sudden departure, he'd just put 300 gold coins on the bill.

Although the six people didn't use any tools, they were preoccupied with their tasks and dug the soil very quickly. Before long, a shallow pit appeared before them.

They suddenly stopped and glanced in Joey's direction.

Joey understood and got up to go over.

A skeleton dressed in a white shirt and wearing only underwear is now fully visible.

"Dig it out!"

After all, Joey brought them here, and he's now their nominal captain, so they still need his permission.

With Joey's approval, they were much more careful this time when they started digging. They carefully cleared the soil around the skeleton and slowly removed the entire skeleton.

Private Uel took off his coat and laid it flat on the ground. He carefully took the human bones that had been cleared from the pit and gently placed them on his coat.

Sergeant Medes picked up a cast iron plaque from beside the skull and clutched it tightly in his hand.

These are nameplates that only soldiers in the army have. Joey and Beard had seen them on Tiger Rock, but they stayed for a short time and it was during a special period, so their nameplates were not made and given to them.
