"Father, the two men who were guarding the cabin have been murdered!"
Charlie stumbled into the courtyard from outside, and as soon as he entered, he started shouting.
Early this morning, he went to the cabin by himself, intending to call the two of them to go find Catherine together, but he did not expect to see a bloody scene as soon as he ran in.
Both men had extremely deep wounds on their necks, with their heads only held together by the skin on their necks.
It looked like they were about to cut their heads off. It seems the person who did this was incredibly ruthless. He was either an enemy of these two men or he was filled with immense anger at the time.
Charlie was terrified and ran home as fast as he could, afraid that if he was too slow, he would be intercepted by the assassin who hadn't gone far.
"What are you yelling about?"
"Do you want the whole town to know?"
The mayor heard Charlie's words and came out of the inner room, clearly very angry.
Charlie was scolded by his father and calmed down, no longer shaken.
"Tell me, what exactly happened?"
"Father, as soon as I got there, I found those two people lying on the ground. There was still a strong smell of blood in the room, and the floor was covered in congealed blood!"
"The person who killed them struck them from the neck; their heads were almost severed!"
"That must have happened last night!"
"Yes, Father, otherwise the smell of blood would have dissipated long ago. It's just that the ginkgo tree in front of the house was also uprooted!"
Charlie remembered the pit he saw after leaving the house.
The mayor's eyes narrowed suddenly. It seemed he didn't care about the two dead men, but was more concerned about the pit.
"Go and bring Banus back right now. It seems someone is planning to harm us!"
"Father, I dare not go out now. Could you please get a few more people to protect me?"
Charlie was already terrified. He never expected that anyone in this gold rush town would dare to harm him and his son. He was used to being arrogant and domineering, and this sudden attack was a bit much for him.
"What a piece of trash!"
The town mayor looked at him with a disappointed expression.
Even if it's useless, it's better than being a dead thing. He didn't want to become a corpse for no reason.
Batus was quickly summoned back, along with four other people. These five were the strongest fighting force in the mayor's household.
Of course, there were also some cannon fodder. Although their individual strength was a bit weak, their numbers were large enough. Sixty-two people were a powerful enough force in this town.
"Joey, aren't we going to chop those two up today?"
The bearded man brandished the axe in his hand. He preferred the axe to the sword, finding it easier to wield.
He didn't understand why Joey had brought the seven of them back to the camp. After figuring out what had happened last night, he couldn't wait to tear the father and son apart.
"No rush. They still have some strength in this gold rush town. We won't fight a battle we can't win!"
Joey glanced at the six men of the third company and could tell that, like the bearded man, they were eager to kill.
"We're not afraid to die; we'll fight them to the death!"
Private Ogev gritted his teeth, full of confidence.
"What good is the courage of a mere brute!"
"It's good that you're not afraid to die, but if any one of you dies, we'll suffer a huge loss. What I need is for all of us to be dead, while none of them can live!"
Joey opened the supplies he had bought while disguised and offered the group something to eat.
"They are now in a state of high alert. Their initial momentum will weaken, and their strength will wane. We must exhaust their fighting spirit, while we wait in comfort for them to tire themselves out, and strive for a great victory!"
Sergeant Medes agreed with Joey's words. Although they wanted to avenge Goodman, they couldn't be too hasty. Many things had to be done slowly, which was what Commander Zoro had said before.
Seeing that Sergeant Medes had agreed with Joey's arrangement, the others also fell silent. It seemed that before Joey arrived, he had been the temporary leader of this six-man team.
"Eat up, eat up! We have to be enthusiastic about eating!"
The bearded man was the first to respond. He did whatever Joey said, ate and drank as he pleased, and lived a carefree life.
Seeing that Joey and the bearded man were eating heartily, the others suppressed their vengeful feelings and each grabbed some food to eat.
And you know what? The stuff Joey bought actually smells pretty good.
Three days passed in this way, and Joey once again disguised himself and walked around town.
He came out to gather information and see if the mayor's family had let their guard down.
"Mr. Joey, you've come to town again?"
A familiar voice, speaking in Common, suddenly called out to Joey, who was disguised.
Joey looked in the direction of the voice and saw it was Phil from the Goblin Bank.
He was genuinely startled; if Charlie and his gang recognized him, he would be doomed.
Joey walked up to the goblin Phil, took his hand, and led him into an alley.
"My God, how did you recognize me?"
"I don't think even my mom would recognize me dressed like this!"
"Oh, my dear Mr. Joey, you are unaware of this!"
“Our Goblin Bank has a highly confidential facial recognition system. Look at these glasses I’m wearing; they’ve already recorded all your information in the system!”
"What? Your technology has already advanced to the electronic information age?"
Joey was shocked; he never expected that such an advanced facial recognition system existed in this other world.
