"Barnus, are you sure they're inside?"
A heavily armored man lying in the grass next to Banus suddenly asked in a low voice.
"That's what the letter said!"
When asked this question, Banus became somewhat unsure of himself.
They had been lying in ambush around the cabin for a full half hour, but there was no movement from inside.
It was eerily quiet.
"Should I go take a look?"
Perhaps he had been waiting for too long, and the man was losing patience.
"No, we mustn't alert them!"
"If they get agitated and actually kill that silly Charlie, that would be a real problem!"
"Didn't you say the mayor didn't care whether Mr. Charlie lived or died? Why are you worried about this now?"
"Fool, the mayor was just saying that. If we really abandon him and he goes back on his word later, who will take responsibility?"
Barnes didn't think the mayor really wanted Charlie dead; what he wanted most was for Charlie to live and for all the people who had kidnapped him to die.
He'd seen plenty of cases of settling scores later, and he didn't want to get himself involved.
"So, are we just going to keep waiting here?"
Clearly, continuing to wait idly was not what he wanted.
"I'll go in and take a look!"
After Banus finished speaking, he began to take off his heavy armor, wrapped it in a large cloth, and carried it in his hand.
He pretended to be carrying ransom money to redeem Charlie.
"My dear friends inside, I am now sent by the mayor to deliver the ransom. Please do not lay a hand on me, I am coming right now!"
After saying this, Banus did not forget to turn around in place to show that he was not carrying any weapons and posed no threat.
But the dagger he hid in his boots is not included.
There was no response from inside the house.
Banus began to slowly approach, carrying his bundle.
Meanwhile, Joey had already led his men to lie in ambush outside the mayor's villa.
"Their men have already left; it seems the town mayor didn't go with them!"
Sergeant Medes had met the mayor, but when Banus led his group away in a menacing manner, they did not see the mayor.
"He really is an old fox!"
"But I already anticipated your prediction!"
"Joey said softly, her eyes fixed on the third floor of the villa."
"Leave two people at the main gate, the rest of you follow me and charge in!"
"We must finish this quickly and decisively; do not linger!"
Joey gave the order, and Sergeant Medes nodded to indicate that he understood.
"superior!"
Joey took the lead and climbed the big tree next to the villa. Today, this tree would be their road to victory.
Bang!
Joey kicked open the third-floor window and jumped inside.
The loud noise had awakened everyone in the entire courtyard.
The person in the room on the third floor glanced at Joey, who was holding a longsword, and without any hesitation, got up and rushed outside.
This must be the mayor of Gold Rush Town.
"An assassin!"
The moment he opened the door, he shouted something to the outside.
"Damn it, he really is a well-trained old fox!"
Joey thought to himself, although he had imagined this scene before, he was still unwilling to accept that he hadn't taken down the mayor immediately.
Two people rushed into the room immediately, each carrying a longsword.
The bearded man and the others had already come in, but the room was small and there wasn't enough room for them.
"Big Beard, you're in charge. The rest of you, follow me!"
Joey witnessed Banus taking the four warriors away with his own eyes. Now, the guards in this courtyard are all weaklings, completely inadequate.
Big Beard could easily take on two of them by himself.
"good!"
The bearded man responded and charged forward, wielding his large axe.
The two men were somewhat smug when they saw that only the bearded man was coming, and they went to meet him with their long swords.
Clang!
The giant axe cleaved into the two longswords.
The longsword in one person's hand immediately slipped from his grasp, and the tiger's mouth of the other person's hands also instantly cracked.
The attack startled the two, who quickly retreated.
At this point, the exit of the room became empty.
Without delay, Joey led his men and gave chase.
Four more people had arrived in the corridor. Joey left two of them to hold off the opponents while he led the other two downstairs to continue the chase.
The fighting grew louder and louder, indicating that Medes, who was at the main gate, had also broken in.
Medes had intended to guard the gate, but as soon as there was a commotion inside, someone tried to run out. He was lightly dressed and looked more like a messenger than a guard.
Without hesitation, Medes swiftly struck and killed him.
The commotion at the villa had already alerted the townspeople, and some of the bolder ones had slowly begun to gather around.
Medes, thinking of Joey's suggestion to finish the job quickly, led Private Uriel through the gate.
There were six people guarding a room on the second floor, so it seemed that the town mayor who had escaped was inside.
Three against six, the advantage is in my hands!
It wasn't that Joey looked down on these six people; it was just that after fighting the orcs, he had a completely new understanding of his own combat abilities, and these small fry were really not worthy of his attention.
However, today we need to finish this quickly. There are bound to be some accomplices among the people in town, and those who have been oppressed for a long time are used to the principle of helping whoever wins, so they won't take action at this time.
The longer it drags on, the worse it will be for Joey himself.
The three men charged forward with their longswords, and the six men in the passageway were unable to spread out and were instantly driven back.
