Pfft!
The sound of a longsword piercing through a body.
Joey looked at the town mayor, who was now stabbed through the heart and was glaring at him with a resentful expression, while the hunting rifle in his hand had fallen to the side.
But I was completely unharmed.
Did the shot miss?
No way!
That old fox is clearly a trained fighter.
Could you miss within ten steps?
Joey thought that since he had never fired a gun before (he was referring to this kind of real gun, not the one he was born with), he shouldn't have missed the target at such close range.
"Meow--"
A gentle meow brought Joey back to reality.
He looked down at his feet and saw a small, all-black cat rubbing against his boots affectionately.
Is that you?
You were the one who helped me just now, little guy?
Joey then remembered that the moment the mayor pulled the trigger, something black lunged at the shotgun in his hand.
"Hehe, little cutie, thanks for earlier!"
Joey crouched down, picked up the little black cat with both hands, and examined it carefully.
"Hey, aren't you the one who covered for me in the tree last time?"
"You're such a lucky star to me!"
Joey recognized the little black cat; it was the same cat that had appeared just in time to cover for him when he was eavesdropping on the conversation on the third floor from the tree last time.
"How about it? You want to follow me from now on? I'll be your cat owner?"
"Meow!"
"I'll take this meow as your agreement!"
After Joey finished speaking, she put the little black cat on her shoulder and gently patted its head.
"Let's get down to business first!"
Joey pulled the sword from the mayor's body and picked up his dropped equipment, the hunting rifle.
Remember to loot the corpse after defeating the boss; this is a good habit I developed when I was playing games.
"Alright, alright, stop glaring at me. Your precious son is waiting for you downstairs. Hurry up, you should be able to make it!"
Joey made a playful remark, then turned and ran out of the room.
The battle outside was also coming to an end, with only one enemy still struggling to hold on.
He held up his longsword, watching in horror as the Saibandan soldiers slowly approached him, his hand trembling involuntarily.
It's really asking too much of him to put these rookies against seasoned veterans.
Joey leaned against the wall in the aisle, reached out his left hand and picked at his ear, looking relaxed and at ease.
Sizzle!
A spray of blood appeared, and the last enemy on the second floor also met his end there.
The longsword was aimed at his throat; it was Corporal Mewus who drew it.
"Mr. Joey, how is he?"
Before Sergeant Medes could even be seen, his voice was already coming from the first floor.
"Everything's done!"
Joey shouted something into the hallway, loud enough for people on the third and first floors to hear.
Before long, everyone gathered on the second floor, blood still dripping from the axe in the bearded man's hand.
"Then shall we retreat?"
Sergeant Medes on the first floor wanted to confirm his plan with Joey.
"Yes, let's retreat, let's retreat now!"
Joey was still a little reluctant. He hadn't even properly explored the entire villa yet, and now he was going to miss out on a chance to become a rich man.
However, his plan was already set, and those idiots figured they should have discovered Charlie's body by now.
In a secluded wooden cabin.
Banus slowly approached the wooden house, carrying his bundle.
But there was still no response from inside.
Banus quickened his pace and kicked open the door, which was already slightly ajar.
Clang—
The wooden door slammed violently against the wall.
Charlie's naked body lay on the ground, the blood from the wound on his neck already dried, suggesting he had been dead for some time.
"You bastards, we've been tricked!"
Banus rushed out of the cabin, shouting angrily.
He called the four soldiers over and quickened his pace, intending to return to the town first.
The rest of you should dispose of Charlie's body first, and then take it back with you later.
Meanwhile, Joey and his group of eight, who had already left the villa, had set up an ambush on their inevitable route.
"Mr. Joey, they're here!"
Sergeant Medes lay prone in the grass, glanced at the five figures running towards them in the distance, and whispered a reminder to Joey beside him.
"Okay, everyone get ready!"
As Joey spoke, he drew his longsword from his waist, his eyes fixed on the five people rapidly approaching.
The bearded man tightened his grip on the axe, seemingly having grown accustomed to killing, especially the most heinous criminals.
"Meow!"
The black cat on Joey's back meowed and jumped right onto his head.
"What the heck, do they really think of me as a cat slave?"
"They've already taken up residence on my head on the very first day?"
Joey muttered something in dissatisfaction, and a cat's paw slapped down on his face.
"Do you even understand human speech?"
Joey didn't believe that a cat could be fluent in human languages; it was simply too far-fetched.
Besides, he had no time to "think" at this point, as the five people were already very close.
"kill!"
Joey roared and launched the first attack, leaping from the bushes and charging towards the five people below.
The others followed closely behind, but for some reason, the bearded man somehow managed to overtake Joey and surge ahead of him.
"Hey, I really underestimated you, Beard. Those muscles of yours aren't for nothing. Your wife is sure to be very happy in the future!"
Joey muttered something behind the bearded man, and the tension instantly vanished.
