Chapter 203 The System Goes Online Again
Yueqing was stunned for a moment.
This mission is so simple and unpretentious? No immediate childbirth, no mention of some grand harmony of life? Just survival?
This sudden shift towards humanization left Yueqing feeling somewhat unaccustomed.
Has the sun risen in the west?
Or did the system reboot along with the user's intelligence?
Before she could think it through, the silver tiger in front of her suddenly stopped.
He put down his daughter, gently placed the bundle and stone spear on the ground, pointed to a natural cave arched by the roots of a huge ancient tree, and said to Yueqing, "Rest here."
The cave was small but very dry, and its entrance was hidden by several clumps of dense ferns.
Silver Tiger didn't go in. Instead, he first checked around the cave to make sure there were no signs or smells of large wild animals before returning to the entrance and using his stone spear to clear away the ferns.
He said to Yueqing, "You and the child go inside first."
Yueqing, holding her son and leading her daughter, bent down and crawled inside.
Silver Tiger then dragged the package inside and laid a large, soft, dry animal hide on the ground, finally giving the family of four a temporary place to stay.
Outside the cave, the thin mist gradually dissipated, and sunlight filtered through layers of leaves, casting dappled patterns of light.
Yin Hu did not rest. Holding his stone spear, he said something to Yue Qing and then turned and walked back into the jungle.
"Don't come out."
Yueqing knew that he had gone to find food and water.
"Okay, I'll listen to you, don't worry."
As she watched the man's figure disappear into the light and shadow, the uncertainty she felt about the future suddenly subsided.
This man doesn't talk much, but he always gives people the strongest sense of security through his actions.
Perhaps, this survival task isn't so difficult after all.
The cave was quiet, with only the even breathing of the two children.
Yueqing pulled her son closer to her chest, then reached out to cover her daughter with a piece of animal skin. She surveyed her makeshift home, her mind not filled with fear of the future, but with the stark reality of fire.
Without fire, it would be cold at night, raw meat would be inedible, and there would be no way to scare away wild animals that might be attracted by the smell of blood.
She spread out her hands and looked at them. A pair of hands that could thread a needle and save lives on the operating table, here, she didn't even have the most basic strength and skill to start a fire by rubbing sticks together.
It seems like I misallocated all my skill points from my past life.
Just as she sighed, a very slight commotion came from outside the ferns at the cave entrance.
It wasn't the sound of Silver Tiger returning. The sound carried a sense of suppressed anxiety.
Yueqing's heart leaped into her throat. She held her breath, silently grabbed the thickest piece of firewood beside her, gripped it tightly in her hand, and arched her body slightly, like a female animal protecting her cub.
The ferns were suddenly pushed aside by a hand, and a familiar face appeared at the entrance of the cave.
It is a red cloud.
Her once-proud fiery red hair was now a mess, covered in grass and dirt, and her tough leather armor was torn in several places, revealing the bloodied skin underneath.
The pride and ferocity of the once strongest female tiger clan have vanished, leaving only a pair of eyes burning red with jealousy and resentment.
Her gaze swept past Yueqing, as if searching for something, carrying an undeniable disdain, and she coldly asked, "Where is he?"
Before Yueqing could speak, a heavy, dark shadow appeared silently behind Chiyun, as if he had always been standing there, blending into the shadows of the forest.
It's a silver tiger.
He carried a recently deceased antelope on his shoulder, its blood dripping down its neck and spreading a small patch of dark red on the ground.
With a muffled thud, the antelope was thrown to the ground.
Chi Yun whirled around, and the moment he saw Yin Hu, the flames in his eyes turned into a sob mixed with wild joy and grievance: "Yin Hu! Why did you leave? For her? A piece of trash who can't even protect himself!"
Her voice sharpened as she pointed at Yueqing inside the cave, as if accusing someone of an absurd and foolish act: "I am the strongest female! We can have the most powerful tribe! Our descendants will be the kings of this forest!"
Silver Tiger's eyes were as calm as a bottomless pool of cold water.
He didn't even glance at Chi Yun; his gaze passed right through her and landed on Yue Qing and the two children in the cave.
His voice was low, without anger or impatience, only a cold indifference as if stating a fact.
"She is my female."
He took a step toward the cave entrance, and the shadow cast by his tall figure almost completely enveloped the crimson clouds.
"They are my cubs."
After he finished speaking, he finally turned his gaze to Chi Yun's face, which was contorted with shock and humiliation. His eyes looked as if he were looking at a rock blocking his way.
“Go back to the tribe,” he said succinctly. “Don’t follow us anymore.”
Chi Yun seemed to have all her strength drained away by those words. She staggered back a step, her lips trembling, as if she wanted to say something more: "But, we..."
"Without us," Silver Tiger interrupted her, his voice as cold and hard as iron. "Go."
One word ended all possibilities.
Chi Yun's face turned a deep liver color in an instant, a battle of anger and humiliation raging across her face, finally culminating in a suppressed sob.
She glared at Silver Tiger, then cast a venomous glance at Yueqing in the cave, before suddenly turning around and stumbling away into the depths of the jungle like a wounded beast.
Silver Tiger stared blankly in the direction she disappeared, stood there for a moment, then bent down, dragged the antelope off the ground, and went into the cave.
He placed his prey in a corner, his sharp gaze sweeping over Yueqing's face.
Are you alright?
Yueqing shook her head.
"I'm fine, don't worry."
This raw and melodramatic emotional drama had a far greater impact on her than the man's resolute decision just moments before.
Perhaps, this survival task isn't really that difficult.
Just as she thought that, that unreliable voice in her head rang out again.
[Beep, host mate successfully drove away a potential threat, demonstrating strong territorial awareness and mate protection. Determined as high-quality reproductive behavior.]
Yueqing was stunned for a moment.
The main survival mission is progressing smoothly. The side mission "Life Extension" is now unlocked.
[Task Objective: Achieve sexual harmony with your partner, the Silver Tiger, and conceive a new life. Reward: 1000 points, redeemable for basic items in the shop, such as a universal flint and steel.]
Yueqing: "..."
She glanced at the silver tiger deftly and skillfully processing the antelope with a stone knife, then at the gleaming, all-purpose flint in her mind, and suddenly felt like laughing.
She knew it.
This lousy system is just a repackaged version of the same thing; at its core, it's still that bastard who only cares about having her baby.
However, what they gave us this time was really tempting.
