Chapter 315 Getting Along

Lin Qinghuan and Wei Xiao walked out of the Wei family home side by side. Wei Xiao affectionately patted Qinghuan's head and said with a smile, "Second Aunt has always been arrogant and sharp-tongued. My mother always suffers when she goes against her. I didn't expect you to get along with her so well."

"My second aunt is competitive, but she has a sharp tongue but a kind heart. She's not a bad person. My aunt is kind and gentle, and doesn't compete with others. She just doesn't bother to compete with my second aunt and lets her have her way," Lin Qinghuan replied with a smile.

Wei Xiao nodded gently and chuckled, "You're right. Mom is tired of scheming and just wants to live a peaceful life. Second Aunt always thought Mom was afraid of her."

“In ancient times, your aunt was destined to be an empress, while your second aunt could only be a favored concubine,” Lin Qinghuan said.

"And you, what was your status in ancient times?" Wei Xiao asked, amused.

Lin Qinghuan looked at Wei Xiao and said in a serious tone, "In ancient times, I could only be a palace maid."

Wei Xiao couldn't help but burst into laughter, teasingly saying, "I thought you would say you are the Crown Princess."

Lin Qinghuan said, "I am just an ordinary citizen. I know my own limitations and I will not covet things that do not belong to me."

Wei Xiaoying raised his eyebrows slightly and asked with a smile, "You have a lot of ambition in modern times, so why do you shrink back in ancient times? This is not like you at all."

Lin Qinghuan rolled her eyes at Wei Xiao. "Modern times are governed by the rule of law, while ancient times were feudal. How can they be the same?"

“It’s not a good thing for a woman to be so conspicuous in ancient times; being discerning is the key.”

"Now that men and women are equal, and with you and Grandpa as my support, I dare to open a supermarket."

Wei Xiao smiled proudly, "Although I don't have any great abilities, I can still protect you. You can go do what you like to do."

Wei Xiao is already a regimental commander at such a young age, a figure many people look up to. Lin Qinghuan isn't an inferiority complex person, and even though she felt she was trying to climb above Wei Xiao's standards, she said irritably, "You're already a regimental commander at such a young age. If you make any more contributions, you could very well be promoted another rank, a height that many people can't reach even after a lifetime of hard work..."

Wei Xiao smiled brightly, "It seems Qing Huan is quite satisfied with me!"

"Of course, I'm very satisfied with Brother Wei Xiao. You're so outstanding, I never thought you would choose me. Grandma Wei and Aunt Wei didn't look down on me because I'm a country girl. Even my second aunt is good to me. I feel like my first half of life was particularly hard, but after meeting you, everything has gone smoothly and everything is developing in a good direction. I feel very happy," Lin Qinghuan said frankly.

“You forgot to mention my dad, he’s also very satisfied with you,” Wei Xiao said.

Lin Qinghuan's eyes lit up, sparkling, and she said with a smile, "I rarely see Uncle Wei, but every time I do, he's expressionless and indifferent to me. I thought he didn't like me and felt I wasn't good enough for you."

"You're overthinking it. My dad holds a high position and is used to being strict with his subordinates," Wei Xiao explained.

Lin Qinghuan recalled that the woman who possessed her body had mentioned that in her previous life, she was pushed off a cliff by Lin Piaoxue, and it was Wei Xiao who collected her body. She couldn't help but ask, "Wei Xiao, if I hadn't met you, we would never have known each other. I was killed by Lin Piaoxue, and you just happened to be the one collecting my body. Would you be sad if you saw my corpse?"

Wei Xiao was stunned for a moment after hearing Lin Qinghuan's words, but quickly came to his senses and reached out to touch Lin Qinghuan's forehead. "You don't have a fever, so why are you talking nonsense?"

Lin Qinghuan removed Wei Xiao's hand, "I was just making a hypothetical assumption."

Wei Xiao looked directly into Lin Qinghuan's eyes and said confidently, "Your assumption is invalid. You are right beside me now. As long as I'm here, I will do everything in my power to protect you and will absolutely not let what you said happen."

Lin Qinghuan sighed inwardly. In her previous life, she returned too late and did not meet Wei Xiao, resulting in a tragic death. Fortunately, she returned early in this life.

Wei Xiao gently rubbed Qing Huan's furrowed brows and asked with concern, "Qing Huan, did you have a nightmare?"

"Yeah, I had a nightmare. The despair, resentment, and unbearable pain I experienced in the dream still makes my whole body ache when I wake up. I don't want to go through it again," Lin Qinghuan sighed.

Wei Xiao held Lin Qinghuan's hand tenderly, "Dreams and reality are opposites. In dreams, we don't know each other, but in reality, we are lovers, and we will spend our lives together."

Lin Qinghuan nodded emphatically, a smile appearing on her lips. "You're right, I was overthinking it."

After Lin Qinghuan finished speaking, she took Wei Xiao's hand and walked through the gate. She saw Grandpa Lin and Lin Fu playing chess in the garden. The two of them smiled and went up to greet them, "Grandpa, Brother Lin!"

Grandpa Lin looked up at Lin Qinghuan and Wei Xiao. The man was handsome and the woman was pretty; they were a match made in heaven. He smiled with satisfaction and said kindly, "You're back. Wei Xiao, sit down and play a game with this old man."

Lin Fu put down the chess piece in his hand and smiled as he moved aside.

Wei Xiao released Lin Qinghuan's hand, walked to sit opposite Grandpa Lin, and said, "Grandpa, my chess skills are so-so, you have to go easy on me and not make me lose too badly."

"Of course, of course," Grandpa Lin said with a smile.

"Grandpa, you two take your time playing chess. I'll go make some dishes. You two can have a good drink tonight." Lin Qinghuan said, then turned and went back into the house.

Grandpa Lin looked at Wei Xiao with envy, "Qing Huan rarely cooks, you're in luck."

Wei Xiao couldn't help but smile, feeling a sweet warmth in his heart. He was really looking forward to the dinner Lin Qinghuan had prepared for him tonight.
