After hearing what Aunt Wei said, Old Bai looked at Lin Qinghuan and asked, "Does the young lady know medicine?"
Lin Qinghuan smiled slightly and said, "I was bored, so I picked up some medical books to read casually and learned a little bit."
Old Bai laughed and said, "Self-taught, it seems the young lady has a great talent for medicine."
"Grandma Bai praised me," Lin Qinghuan said.
Old Bai smiled, stood up and said to Wei Xiao, "Then you two continue chatting, I'll go check on how your grandmother is recovering these past few days."
Wei Xiao stood up and said, "Together, I also want to see how Grandma is recovering."
Mother Wei looked at Second Aunt Wei and said, "Second Sister-in-law, you chat with Qinghuan and the others. I'm going upstairs to take care of Mom."
Aunt Wei responded haughtily in a low voice, waved to Mother Wei, and said, "Go! Take good care of Mom."
Seeing how Aunt Wei treated her like a servant, Madam Wei's eyes flashed with displeasure. She wanted to say something back, but with Old Master Bai and Lin Qinghuan there, she had no choice but to swallow her words.
"Second Aunt, my mother is still your sister-in-law. Your attitude makes me very unhappy. If I'm not happy, I'll go and teach Wei Qing and the others how to behave, so they won't have any more sibling rivalry in the future," Wei Xiao said.
Wei Xiao had always been unwilling to argue with his second aunt, but she kept pushing her luck, which made him very unhappy.
Aunt Wei's expression froze. Wei Xiao was the eldest grandson of the Wei family, and he was promising. He was highly regarded by Grandma Wei and Grandpa Wei. If he were to take drastic measures against her two precious sons, wouldn't that be half their lives?
Wei Xiao only looked away when he saw that his second aunt had obediently shut up and stopped being so foul-mouthed, and then followed Old Bai upstairs.
Lin Qinghuan watched as Aunt Wei scurried about like a quail, a fleeting smile playing on her beautiful eyes before returning to normal.
Seeing Aunt Wei's aggrieved expression, Lin Piaoxue's face showed a gloating smile, though it was faint, Lin Qinghuan still caught it.
"Second Aunt, does your foot hurt a lot?" Lin Piaoxue asked, feigning concern.
Aunt Wei rolled her eyes and said, "Why don't you try falling a couple of times and then you'll know if it hurts or not."
Lin Piaoxue smiled awkwardly and said, "Second Aunt, I was just concerned about you. If you don't need my concern, I won't ask anymore."
"Then shut up and stop whining and trying to get attention," Aunt Wei retorted.
Aunt Wei didn't give Lin Piaoxue any face, which made Lin Piaoxue furious, but she quickly suppressed it. She wouldn't bother with that fool Aunt Wei today, but she would definitely get her revenge later and pay her back tenfold.
"Second Aunt, how could you say that to me? I know my family isn't well-off and you look down on me, but I'm still Wei Xiao's guest. How could you treat me so disrespectfully?" Lin Piaoxue said, covering her face as she ran away.
Aunt Wei looked at Lin Piaoxue with a blank expression. How could she look down on her? All she did was tell Lin Piaoxue not to talk too much, because it was annoying to listen to.
Lin Qinghuan smiled when she saw Aunt Wei's stunned expression!
Aunt Wei looked at Lin Qinghuan and asked, "Did I look down on your sister or belittle her?"
Lin Qinghuan suppressed a laugh and said, "Yes."
Perhaps Aunt Wei's foot hurt, and she didn't like Lin Piaoxue making small talk, which is why she spoke to Lin Piaoxue that way. But the meaning behind her words was that she looked down on Lin Piaoxue.
Aunt Wei tilted her head and looked at Lin Qinghuan, saying suspiciously, "I don't look down on Lin Piaoxue, I just don't want her to keep talking."
Lin Qinghuan nodded and said, "I know Second Aunt didn't mean any harm. She just said those things because her foot hurt."
Aunt Wei moved her foot, winced in pain, and said angrily, "If Lin Piaoxue hadn't been brought back by that brat Wei Xiao, I would have given that wretched girl a good beating and made her pay for my medical expenses."
Lin Qinghuan looked at Aunt Wei and said, "Aunt, I think you have a sharp tongue but a soft heart. I'm just trying to give you a few words of advice. Don't provoke Lin Piaoxue. You're no match for her. If you anger her, she might tear your family apart in a fit of rage."
Upon hearing Lin Qinghuan's words, Aunt Wei Er shouted, "I'm not afraid of her at all!"
Seeing Aunt Wei's aggressive demeanor, Lin Qinghuan said, "Aunt, I've already warned you. Whether you listen or not is up to you."
Aunt Wei shrugged indifferently and said, "You seem to be quite wary of Lin Piaoxue."
“I used to be very wary of it, but now I’ve come to terms with it and it doesn’t matter anymore.” Lin Qinghuan said with a wry smile, “When I was at my most desperate, I took a pig-slaughtering knife and killed the pig in my house.”
Aunt Wei was shocked by Lin Qinghuan's words and looked at her in astonishment, asking, "You actually dare to kill a pig? Aren't you afraid?"
Lin Qinghuan slowly said, "At that time, my mind was blank, and I was numb."
Aunt Wei said, "Are you scared now that you think about it?"
“Some.” Lin Qinghuan’s lips curled slightly, a bitter smile on her face. “I even threatened that if my family provokes me again, I’ll throw a packet of rat poison and we’ll all die together.”
"Is it because your family treats you badly?" Aunt Wei asked curiously.
“My sister is a young lady who never lifts a finger, while I was born a servant. I started working when I was three years old. I always ate the worst food and did the most work. Do you think I had a good life?” Lin Qinghuan said, stretching out her hand to show Aunt Wei.
When Aunt Wei saw Lin Qinghuan's rough hands and the scars on them, a hint of sympathy and heartache appeared on her face.
