Chapter Forty-Eight: Ziruo's Wife

Meng Qingqian was one of the important female protagonists in the original novel, and He Yunxiao knew about her benefits even before he transmigrated into the book.

Even after transmigrating into the book, knowing Meng Qingqian's advantages and the wonderful feeling of being the princess's lap mate, He Yunxiao always kept his distance from her.

The reason is simple: it's too troublesome.

With a docile heroine like Nan Zhu or Zi Ruo, one can live a quiet and peaceful life as a wealthy man, happily raising a bunch of children and living out the rest of his days.

But once he gets involved with Meng Qingqian, he'll never have a moment's peace. Even if he doesn't mess with others, someone else will come after him. That's what it means to be in a high position and constantly watched.

Now that he and Mengbao have consummated their marriage, it's no longer possible for him to hide behind Mengbao and let her shield him from the storm.

He Yunxiao picked up Mengbao and disappeared from the Prime Minister's residence, then reappeared in Fenghua Palace.

He removed Mengbao's coat and shoes, placed her on the couch, and carefully covered her with a blanket to keep her warm. After everything was in place, He Yunxiao squatted by the bed, kissed Mengbao's cheek, and smiled knowingly as he watched her sleeping peacefully.

He Yunxiao stood up and walked towards the map of the State of Qi that was placed in the center of the hall.

On this map, there are two huge black arrows on the east and west sides of the State of Qi, forming a pincer movement to surround Yin Jing.

He Yunxiao stood before the map, lost in thought.

If Jiang Wenhu's words are true, then even if Mengbao comes to power and replaces Prime Minister Han in charge of the overall situation, the situation of Yan attacking and Qi defending will not change. Yinjing City will still be besieged by the Yan army, and reinforcements from various places will still die under the swords of the Yan cavalry.

Fortunately, there were 300,000 troops in Yinjing City, plus reinforcements such as the He family army that had arrived ahead of time. Before the Yan army could form an encirclement, there were at least 600,000 troops in Yinjing City.

The eastern route of Yan State had 300,000 troops, and the western route had 500,000 troops, for a total of 800,000 troops.

800,000 versus 600,000...

He Yunxiao suddenly thought of Chiang Kai-shek's "advantage lies with me".

A funny thought came to mind, and He Yunxiao grinned, his heavy worries dissipating considerably.

Even without external reinforcements, Qi and Yan could fight each other with only the troops in Yinjing City.

He Yunxiao was not clear about the deployment of troops in various parts of Qi, but when he saw Jubei Pass still holding out above Yin Jingcheng on the map, he suddenly had a plan.

Is it possible that the Yan army launched a full-scale attack, leaving its interior vulnerable, allowing the garrison at Beiguan to abandon its defenses and launch a proactive offensive, advancing all the way to Jingtian City and achieving the goal of relieving the siege of Wei by attacking Zhao?

The biggest obstacle to advancing to Jingtian City in a short time is the scattered garrison troops throughout Yan. If they can bypass the main passes within Yan and advance rapidly, they might be able to launch a surprise attack on Jingtian.

But how can we bypass the scattered garrisons in various parts of Yan?

He Yunxiao suddenly slapped his forehead!

Didn't I have a map of the Yan Kingdom's border defenses?

With this item, the entire defense of the Yan Kingdom can be seen, so why worry about not being able to launch a surprise attack on Jingtian to relieve the siege of Yinjing?

He Yunxiao was extremely excited and really wanted to wake Mengbao up to discuss the feasibility of this plan. However, after a brief moment of excitement, he quickly calmed down. If this plan had any major flaws, it wouldn't be good if Mengbao laughed at him in the end. He needed to find someone to give him some advice.

Almost instantly, He Yunxiao thought of his wife, Ziruo.

Although Ziruo's wife did not study military strategy, she was exceptionally intelligent. As long as it did not involve other women, you could discuss anything with her.

...

In the afternoon, in the study of the Fan family residence.

He Yunxiao had Hong She as an inside agent, and was almost completely aware of the affairs of the Fan family.

According to Hong She, Zi Ruo's wife led an extremely regular life, spending her days reading, attending classes, and writing. Occasionally, she would embroider, play the piano, and chat with her best friend, Du Yinyun. Of course, there was also the time she would spend with He Yunxiao in the study every morning when He Yunxiao came to pick Yinyun up for work.

Hong She had already begun to secretly admire this "lady." She was dignified, gentle, and extremely patient. She was never arrogant or impatient and was a true lady of high society.

The long corridor of the Fan Mansion, with its opulent red facade, led He Yunxiao along.

"Young master, young lady is in the study. Please go in. Hongshe is waiting outside."

He Yunxiao nodded. "Okay."

Hong She consciously stopped outside the study, while He Yunxiao pushed the door open and entered.

Fan Ziruo wasn't writing, but reading. When she saw He Yunxiao arrive, she calmly put the book away.

He Yunxiao: ?

"What are you looking at, Madam?"

Fan Ziruo placed the book she was holding face down on the table and picked up another one. "I didn't read anything, just some boring stuff. Why did you come to see Ziruo this afternoon, young master?"

He Yunxiao: ?

Something's not right!

Normally, Ziruo's wife would greet him with a smile, so why did she look like she didn't want to see him today?

"Does Madam have a secret?"

Fan Ziruo turned a page in her book, her eyes looking elsewhere. "Why did you suddenly bring this up, young master?"

Ziruo's wife is good at detecting lies, but she's a complete liar when it comes to lying herself.

These frequent little gestures, these evasive eyes, this insincere tone... it's almost as if he's saying, "I'm lying."

He Yunxiao knew without a doubt that Ziruo's wife's secret was related to the book she had placed face down on the table. But going to look at it directly would be too disrespectful to Ziruo; he had to find a way to get her to reveal the secret herself.

He Yunxiao used the same trick again, moving a chair next to Zi Ruo's wife's seat, sitting down himself, and then patting Fan Zi Ruo's thigh.

Fan Ziruo glanced out the window and said reproachfully, "Clouds, bright sunshine... Hey?"

As a ninth-rank martial artist, He Yunxiao could easily lift his wife by the waist. He always understood his wife Ziruo's bottom line: no marriage, no children, and that meant no kissing. Hugging and cuddling were no problem for him.
