Chapter Sixteen: Is Mengbao not Xiaoyue?

Damn it, if Mengbao really is Xiaoyue, then I'll definitely become the Emperor of Yan!

"Alright," under Mengbao's pressure, He Yunxiao had no choice but to compromise, "I won't go to the coming-of-age ceremony."

"Hmm." Meng Qingqian said, her face slightly flushed, "If you really want to see the moonlit night, there will be other opportunities in the future. Or, I'll take you to see it tomorrow?"

He Yunxiao: ?

Why did Mengbao say that? She even took me to see her? Could it be that she really isn't Xiaoyue? Have I been wrong all along?

"Then you bring it tomorrow..."

He Yunxiao was only halfway through his sentence when he saw Meng Bao's expression growing increasingly serious and her eyes becoming more dangerous. So he immediately changed his mind and said, "I'm not watching anymore. I have Meng Bao, I don't care about Meng Qingqian."

Meng Qingqian snorted coldly.

Isn't having me enough? You dare ask me to show you women? You're quick to react this time.

Since Mengbao had been saying she had to leave because it was late, He Yunxiao didn't linger after seeing the "moon" and left Jinxian Courtyard with Mengbao.

Of course, they didn't go out hand in hand. With so many people watching outside, Meng Qingqian was afraid of being discovered, so she kept a distance of ten centimeters from He Yunxiao.

After leaving the house, He Yunxiao said to Mengbao, "Qingmeng, come with me for a moment."

Meng Qingqian turned back and winked at Jian Ling, signaling her not to follow, before leaving alone with He Yunxiao.

This action might be fine if someone else did it, but for Meng Qingqian, it had another meaning: she was entrusting her life and fortune to He Yunxiao for protection.

The Marquis's carriage was parked at a corner of the road some distance from Jinxian Courtyard.

There was no one on the street late at night. Once they were far away from the entrance of Jinxian Academy, He Yunxiao secretly took Mengbao's hand.

Meng Qingqian was startled and said, "You! Let go! Aren't you afraid someone will see us?"

He Yunxiao said, "It's alright, they can't see."

Meng Qingqian glanced back, seemingly unable to see, and then nervously let He Yunxiao hold her hand.

Upon reaching the carriage, Ma Dekuai tactfully and skillfully avoided it. Now, another place, "Jinxianyuan," had been added to his itinerary.

He Yunxiao told Mengbao to wait outside the car while he climbed in and rummaged around inside. A moment later, to Mengbao's astonishment, he actually produced a "moon"!

He Yunxiao had this item custom-made by a merchant at Tingfeng Tower. He originally planned to give it to Mengbao at her coming-of-age ceremony, but Mengbao might not be Meng Qingqian anymore, and he had promised her he wouldn't attend the ceremony, so he decided to give it to her now.

He Yunxiao handed the "moon" to Li Qingmeng, who received it very carefully.

Meng Qingqian held the "moon" in her hands, her eyes shining as she gazed at the glowing sphere, completely captivated by it. She exclaimed incredulously, "Is this made of glowing glass?"

"The outer shell is made of glass, the middle layer is a warm-colored lantern cloth to soften the light, and the innermost glowing 'wick' is fuel made of potent oil. This thing burns much brighter than a candle, which is why it's so bright. It's just..."

Before He Yunxiao could finish speaking, the "moon" in Mengbao's hand went out.

Meng Qingqian: ?

He Yunxiao said helplessly, "It won't stay lit for long because the oxygen will run out quickly."

"What is oxygen? Can't you put in more?" Meng Qingqian said angrily.

He Yunxiao stepped forward, reached out and lifted Li Qingmeng's chin, "Does Mengbao really want to know what oxygen is? I'll tell you right now..."

Meng Qingqian's eyes widened as her entire field of vision was gradually being completely occupied by the ever-growing He Yunxiao.

"No... um..."
