Chapter 81 Chapter 81 [Extra]
Pei Xingzhi was carried to the infirmary at noon. The scorching sun made everyone feel listless, and even the rare physical education class was devoid of energy.
Most of the students in the class were hiding from the sun in the stands on the playground, except for Pei Xingzhi, who was full of energy and still had the energy to play ball.
He was playing basketball by himself in front of the hoop when he accidentally twisted his ankle when he landed.
Two classmates sighed and carried him to the infirmary, but after looking around, they found that the school doctor was not there.
They originally wanted to wait with him for a while and take a break, but Pei Xingzhi said he was afraid of delaying their return home from school and refused to let them stay with him no matter what.
Seeing this, the two classmates had no choice but to agree to Pei Xingzhi's request and leave, telling him to call them if there were any problems before they left.
Pei Xingzhi nodded repeatedly in agreement, sitting on the bed watching the two leave. Once their figures disappeared, Pei Xingzhi immediately crossed his legs and lay down on the bed like a lord.
He really did sprain his ankle, but he also really wanted to go to the infirmary—who wants to stand in the sun on the playground on such a hot day? Asking for leave on the grounds of a stomachache would be too simplistic, so he might as well make a real injury to make the teacher feel sorry for him.
I just didn't expect the school doctor to be absent. If I had known, I wouldn't have needed to act so convincingly; I could have just pretended to have sprained my ankle.
The air conditioner for the infirmary was placed on the table outside. Pei Xingzhi hopped out on one leg, turned down the temperature, and lay down on the bed to catch up on sleep.
When Xie Nanyi slipped in, Pei Xingzhi had just fallen into a light sleep. Xie Nanyi brushed her sweat-dampened bangs aside, threw the unlit cigarette she had been holding into the trash can, and carefully examined the boy who had "occupied" her bed.
He lay on the bed in a "spread-eagle" position, his clothes were lifted up to reveal his slender and well-proportioned waist, his right hand held the air conditioner remote control and rested on his navel, while his left hand hung down by the bedside.
Looking further up, Xie Nanyi saw Pei Xingzhi's thick, beautiful face.
Perhaps in response to the school's call for "bangs not to go past the eyebrows," the boys' bangs were cut extremely short: long on the sides and short in the middle, making them look like they had been chewed by a dog.
Anyone else would definitely not be able to pull off such a wild look, but this guy not only did it, but Xie Nanyi also found him somewhat adorable.
"Am I crazy to think a boy is cute?" Xie Nanyi pressed her tongue against the roof of her mouth, reflecting on her strange thought.
With no bed available, Xie Nanyi had no choice but to make do and sit on the beanbag chair next to him, his legs tucked in.
Before he could even sit down properly, Pei Xingzhi was awakened by his noise and suddenly sprang up from the bed.
Xie Nanyi was startled by his action, and her phone slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.
"Are you... a new doctor?" Pei Xingzhi asked after hesitating for a moment, looking at the man sitting next to him.
When did the school get a new school doctor? And he's so handsome! Handsome face, long legs, great physique—the last time he saw a school doctor this handsome was in a Japanese anime. Usually, they're the gentle, beautiful type, soft-spoken, and charming type who takes advantage of the protagonist.
Pei Xingzhi shook his head, banishing the strange thought. Although he loved reading these kinds of comics, he would hesitate if he were to be the protagonist.
However, the school doctor's face is indeed a bit too handsome!
Pei Xingzhi's words startled Xie Nanyi, who then realized that since he wasn't wearing his school uniform today, the boy had mistaken him for the school doctor.
"Yes, I just arrived at this school a few days ago." Xie Nanyi nodded with a mischievous grin, and casually picked up a white coat from the side and put it on. "Are you feeling unwell, classmate?"
"I sprained my ankle." Pei Xingzhi, knowing he was injured, wasn't afraid of the school doctor's examination. Upon hearing this, he immediately lifted his leg to show him his ankle.
Xie Nanyi sat down on the edge of his bed and made him take off his shoes, then pretended to examine them.
Pei Xingzhi's sprain wasn't too serious; aside from the pain he could feel, there were no other visible abnormalities. To make the act convincing, Xie Nanyi, mimicking a doctor, gently pressed on his ankle, asking if it hurt. Pei Xingzhi naturally exaggerated, yelling with every press Xie Nanyi made, like a human screaming chicken.
Although Xie Nanyi couldn't diagnose illnesses, he could tell that the person in front of him was also acting. He didn't expose Pei Xingzhi, but instead frowned slightly, his expression instantly becoming serious.
Pei Xingzhi naturally didn't miss the sudden change in his expression. He felt uneasy, wondering if he had exaggerated the severity of the illness. However, this was his first real-world experience, so failure was understandable.
"Doctor, what's wrong? Is it serious?"
"Classmate, you weren't lying to me just now, were you?" Xie Nanyi put Pei Xingzhi's leg on her own lap and held his ankle with one hand.
"No, I answered truthfully." Now that he'd come this far, Pei Xingzhi could only continue to be stubborn. Anyway, he said he was in pain, and the school doctor didn't know whether he was really in pain or faking it. Asking so many questions now would just end up him prescribing a bunch of random pills.
"If what you said is correct, based on your description, you probably need to have your leg amputated." Xie Nanyi was very suitable for this kind of performance, and in just one sentence, she portrayed the doubt, panic, and hesitation of an ordinary school doctor.
"Are you out of your mind? I sprained my ankle, why would I need an amputation?! You're a quack, get out of here, I don't want you to treat me anymore. Why does the school admit just anyone? Don't you have any conscience for the sake of blood ties?!" Pei Xingzhi never expected that his casual remark would have such serious consequences.
He was too lazy to pretend to be sick anymore, and all he could think about was getting away from this quack doctor as soon as possible. But unfortunately, Xie Nanyi held his legs tightly, and no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free.
“Classmate, don’t be afraid to seek medical help.” Xie Nanyi looked at him and earnestly advised, “It’s not necessary to amputate. How about this, I’ll draw some blood from you first to release your blood clots. Once the blood clots are gone, amputation is not necessary.”
Pei Xingzhi's flustered appearance was quite amusing. Xie Nanyi continued to spout nonsense, and then pulled out a knife from somewhere, pretending to slash Pei Xingzhi's ankle.
In his panic, Pei Xingzhi failed to notice the flaws in Xie Nanyi's words, his mind preoccupied with trying to escape as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, he was not as strong as Xie Nanyi. As the knife in Xie Nanyi's hand got closer and closer to him, Pei Xingzhi shouted and closed his eyes.
The expected pain did not come; instead, there was only a cool sensation on his ankle. Pei Xingzhi opened his eyes and saw the "school doctor's" knife pressed against his ankle, the blade clearly embedded, with only the hilt sticking out.
Xie Nan saw that he had regained his composure, and slightly raised the hand holding the knife, causing the blade to "grow" out again—it was a retractable knife.
"Xie Nanyi, what are you doing here again? And why are you wearing my clothes?" The school doctor entered the room to find his troublesome little devil sitting on his bed, wearing his clothes and bullying his patient. The poor student was about to cry from the bullying.
"Wearing your clothes?" Pei Xingzhi, the "little student" who had been "frightened and crying," glanced back and forth at them, then exclaimed in realization, "Isn't he the new school doctor?!"
"What new school doctor? Xie Nanyi, why are you bullying people in new ways now?"
The school doctor told him to take off his clothes, then rubbed his forehead to encourage himself before starting to wipe his bottom.
"Little student, did he bully you just now?"
"I didn't bully him, I just performed a magic trick on him," Xie Nanyi answered first. The school doctor glared at him and then turned to Pei Xingzhi, gesturing for him to speak.
"What kind of magic trick is that! Is it magic to scare me with a knife?!" Pei Xingzhi complained to the school doctor with a pout. Just thinking about the scene from earlier made Pei Xingzhi feel a chill of fear.
How did he mistake Xie Nanyi for the school doctor? Looking at it now, his youthful appearance doesn't seem to match the "cunning and shrewd" school doctor next to him at all.
His thoughts changed. What's the use of being handsome? With such a terrible personality, he's destined to be a villain in the comics. He's going to erase all the fantasies he's had about this person!
"You could call this a kind of magic trick, right? Who told you to be so timid, afraid of even this?" Xie Nanyi shrugged nonchalantly, still playing with the retractable knife in her hand.
"Xie Nanyi, please go out first, don't cause me any trouble." The school doctor was also afraid of this troublesome person, so he quickly asked Xie Nanyi to leave.
Xie Nanyi scoffed lightly, but still left.
With no one disturbing him, the actual school doctor began to examine Pei Xingzhi. His injury wasn't serious; he just needed a few days of ointment and to avoid strenuous exercise to recover.
Pei Xingzhi thanked the school doctor. It was almost time to leave school, so he simply got up and prepared to leave. As he went out, he ran into Xie Nanyi, who was waiting outside.
"Are you alright?" Xie Nanyi asked.
Pei Xingzhi didn't want to answer him, deliberately ignoring Xie Nanyi's question, and followed the school doctor to the front to get the medicine.
"It's alright, little one. A little medicine will do." Pei Xingzhi could ignore it, but the school doctor sometimes had to be considerate, especially when Xie Nanyi was clearly about to get angry.
Just as he finished getting the medicine, the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class. Pei Xingzhi walked towards the door without looking back, but Xie Nanyi suddenly rushed over and blocked his way.
Are you angry with me?
Pei Xingzhi remained silent.
"Are you really angry with me?" Xie Nanyi continued to ask.
"I don't know you." Seeing that he was not only blocking his way but also kept asking questions, Pei Xingzhi finally answered him.
"I'm Xie Nanyi, now you know me, right? What's your name?"
"I don't want to tell you." Pei Xingzhi tried to walk past him, but no matter which way he went, Xie Nanyi went too; he simply couldn't get around Xie Nanyi.
"What exactly do you want?!" Pei Xingzhi finally got a little angry. He didn't want to know this person, so why was he being bothered by him?
"Just tell me your name."
"My name is Pei Xingzhi! Is that enough? Get out of my way." Pei Xingzhi was annoyed by his noise and, thinking it was better to avoid trouble, compromised and told him his name.
Having obtained Pei Xingzhi's name, Xie Nanyi finally gave up and made way for Pei Xingzhi.
Pei Xingzhi glared at him, then limped away. Just as he stepped out the door, he suddenly felt an itch on the back of his neck. He reached down and pulled out a gardenia from the back of his neck.
Pei Xingzhi: "?"
Xie Nanyi reached out and conjured a flower out of thin air, just like the one in his hand. He smiled slightly and said, "This can be considered magic, right?"
Pei Xingzhi looked at the flowers in his hand and Xie Nanyi's somewhat glaring smile, and a strange feeling suddenly welled up in his heart, but he still showed that look of disdain.
"This doesn't count as magic!"
But since the man was handsome, he reluctantly forgave him.
(The school doctor, watching the two flirting: Who will speak up for my flowers!)
