Chapter 58 [VIP]
bother
So annoying
It's the kind of annoyance that makes you want to smash everything around you to pieces and then kill everyone.
Why couldn't the world have been destroyed before he was born? Or could he have been turned into a single-celled organism without any capacity for thought?
Why do people always place unwarranted expectations on him, always place unwarranted hopes on him, and always ask him to do things he doesn't want to do?
So annoying.
Pei Xingzhi, who was feeling sleepy, was interrupted by Qin Wanyang's phone call. He rubbed his hair, got up in a fit of self-pity, and cursed indiscriminately at the window.
Mom is right, he has indeed been going a bit too far lately.
But what does it matter? He's already sold himself to the Xie family anyway, so even if he goes too far, the Xie family will handle all the potential problems for him.
So, he should thank Xie Nanyi.
His vision gradually blurred, and Pei Xingzhi collapsed to his knees, resting his forehead on his knees and closing his eyes to clear his mind.
He didn't want to cry, nor did he feel sad, because this was nothing at all.
Qin Wanyang's call wasn't meant to accuse him; if she were serious, Pei Xingzhi wouldn't have had a chance to argue. Her call was, at most, a warning—you've been having some unnecessary thoughts lately, and you'd better rein them in before I personally intervene.
I've actually gotten used to it a long time ago.
He just felt so tired.
What is the purpose of all this hard work?
His seemingly firm choices were constantly wavering. He was like a puppet without self-awareness, manipulated by others to enjoy honors he didn't care about, and to live a life he didn't want.
What does he really want?
Pei Xingzhi himself didn't know either.
*
Xie Nanyi returned on a rainy night.
He opened the door very gently, as if afraid of disturbing Pei Xingzhi's rest, but Pei Xingzhi was sleeping in the living room, and no matter how careful he was, he still woke Pei Xingzhi up from the sofa.
Pei Xingzhi was startled by the sound of the door opening and sat up abruptly, dropping the cushion he was holding to the ground.
As he moved, the lights in the living room turned on. Pei Xingzhi, still shaken, looked at Xie Nanyi who was tiptoeing around. He took a deep breath and then leaned back.
Why are you sleeping here?
Seeing that Pei Xingzhi had been woken up, Xie Nanyi hung her damp coat on the coat rack by the door, picked up the cushion that had fallen to the ground, and half-squatted down next to Pei Xingzhi.
"I was reading some literature and I didn't expect to fall asleep like that..." Pei Xingzhi was still lying down, his eyes closed, rubbing his temples wearily, and said weakly.
Xie Nanyi looked at the coffee table next to her, where a computer with a black screen and a cup of unfinished coffee were placed.
"You've been staying up late studying again?" Xie Nanyi said, taking over Pei Xingzhi's right hand to massage him.
Pei Xingzhi didn't resist his touch as usual; instead, he subtly adjusted his sleeping position to make himself more comfortable, seemingly enjoying it. Just when Xie Nanyi thought he was falling asleep, Pei Xingzhi suddenly spoke, whispering, "No..."
Xie Nanyi keenly noticed that Pei Xingzhi was acting strangely. He stopped what he was doing, leaned down and kissed Pei Xingzhi's lips.
The kiss was so brief it seemed to vanish in an instant; the soft touch on his lips appeared to be merely Pei Xingzhi's illusion. He slowly opened his eyes and met Xie Nanyi's gaze as she leaned over him.
It had been more than two weeks since they last met. Half a month couldn't change a person's appearance much. Xie Nanyi looked no different from usual and was still the "campus heartthrob".
Pei Xingzhi, however, looked much thinner.
Looking at his haggard face, Xie Nanyi felt a surge of emotions welling up inside her, but she couldn't utter a single word.
He wanted to ask Pei Xingzhi how he was doing lately, and whether he had missed him while he was away. But it was clear that Pei Xingzhi was not doing well.
Although he was confined to the old house by his father, news from there could still reach his ears at his father's behest.
He knew that Pei Xingzhi was ostracized and isolated by his classmates, maliciously assigned impossible tasks by his teachers, and was judged by people outside the school as the initiator of gender antagonism.
He knew all this, but there was nothing he could do. And most of the difficulties Pei Xingzhi endured were brought upon him by him.
Xie Nanyi looked at Pei Xingzhi, her eyes flashing slightly, but she remained silent.
He regretted pursuing Pei Xingzhi simply out of spite of his father. He thought that showing his interest would make his father give up on his idea, but he clearly underestimated his father's understanding of him; his father saw through his unspoken feelings for Pei Xingzhi.
The only genuine feeling he had amidst all this pretense was discovered by his father.
In the father's eyes, the so-called Beta or Omega imprints were nothing more than tools for periodically satisfying desires. They could give these tools some benefits, but they couldn't let these tools threaten them.
As an Alpha, the only person he can love is himself. This is true for him, and it must be true for Xie Nanyi, his successor.
Therefore, he wanted to make this overconfident Beta completely submit, and also to make Xie Nanyi completely sever her unrealistic feelings for this Beta.
His past life of being high above others taught him that he could enjoy everything with a clear conscience. As a high-quality Alpha, he was inherently outstanding, and all those who were inferior to him should serve him.
Pei Xingzhi was the same.
But he couldn't do it. He didn't know when it started, but he actually began to care about Pei Xingzhi, not just because of the imprint, but because his heart needed Pei Xingzhi.
"I'm sleepy."
The two stared at each other in silence for a long time before Pei Xingzhi broke the silence by speaking first.
He raised his hands, gesturing for Xie Nanyi to pick him up, and then, as if being pampered, asked to be carried to the bed.
He didn't ask Xie Nanyi where she had gone during the time she disappeared; he didn't want to know, and Xie Nanyi had no obligation to answer him.
Xie Nanyi obediently picked him up, gently placed him on the bed, and then naturally lay down beside him.
The two remained silent, perhaps unsure of what to say, and lay there in silence until sunrise the next day.
The dim light shone through the gauze curtains onto Xie Nanyi's eyes. He frowned, opened his eyes, and subconsciously looked to his side first.
Pei Xingzhi was lying quietly asleep beside his bed. His long hair was casually tied up with a rubber band and hung to one side. His already gentle features were made even more beautiful by the morning light.
Looking at his sleeping face, Xie Nanyi's chaotic thoughts gradually calmed down.
His dilemma was either the same as Pei Xingzhi's or different from Pei Xingzhi's. He wanted to let Pei Xingzhi go, but now, Pei Xingzhi's fate was no longer within his control.
Moreover, rather than letting Pei Xingzhi leave, he hoped Pei Xingzhi could accept reality and that there was nothing wrong with being with him. He would never be as heartless as his father; Pei Xingzhi could still get what he wanted by staying by his side.
But what does Pei Xingzhi want?
"You woke up so early..."
Xie Nanyi stared blankly at Pei Xingzhi's face, completely unaware that Pei Xingzhi had woken up at some point.
Seeing Xie Nanyi's stunned expression, Pei Xingzhi couldn't help but reach out and poke his face.
"What's wrong? Are you still asleep? You should have woken up earlier than me, right?"
Feeling a warm touch on her cheek, Xie Nanyi subconsciously grasped Pei Xingzhi's hand that was pressed against hers, and gently kissed his fingertips.
Would Pei Xingzhi smile at me so gently?
He must be dreaming.
Pei Xingzhi was amused by Xie Nanyi's careful movements. A tingling sensation came from the spot on his fingertips where Xie Nanyi had kissed him. Pei Xingzhi sat up and whispered to Xie Nanyi.
"Was this... your good morning kiss?"
!!
Xie Nanyi's pupils suddenly dilated, and an eerie red quickly spread from the tips of her ears to her cheeks.
Pei Xingzhi looked at Xie Nanyi, who had suddenly become shy, with amusement. He always acted so formally, how come he became like this after just one sentence from him?
His gaze shifted downwards, and as expected, he saw Xie Nanyi's unusual condition.
He pretended not to know and moved closer, pressing his knee against Xie Nanyi's groin, and asked innocently, "What's wrong with you? Why is your face so red all of a sudden?"
Alphas already have a somewhat special situation in the morning, and Pei Xingzhi deliberately provoked them. Even Xie Nanyi, who was slow to notice, could sense Pei Xingzhi's deliberate actions. He took a deep breath, pressed Pei Xingzhi's shoulders down, and pinned him beneath him.
Pei Xingzhi refused to let him go. His hands were pinned down, but his legs were free.
“Pei Xiaozhi…”
Xie Nanyi almost gritted her teeth as she called out Pei Xingzhi's name, but the culprit looked at him innocently, as if he didn't understand why his attitude towards her had suddenly changed like this.
"What's wrong? Do you need my help?"
"..."
Xie Nanyi's body had reached a point where he could no longer control himself under Pei Xingzhi's deliberate teasing. Xie Nanyi glanced helplessly at Pei Xingzhi, turned his head and muttered a curse under his breath, then got up to go to the bathroom to take care of things alone.
Just as he stood up, Pei Xingzhi grabbed him and pulled him back onto the bed, straddling him and slowly removing the covering from his body with his fingers.
"Let me help you." Pei Xingzhi leaned down and whispered in Xie Nanyi's ear, the extremely ambiguous action making the presence of that thing even stronger.
"I really am..." Xie Nanyi was too exhausted to refute, so she simply let Pei Xingzhi do as he pleased.
Although Pei Xingzhi spoke with practiced ease, it was, after all, his first time doing something like this, and words and actions are ultimately different.
He made the attempt rather clumsily, but it was clear that he underestimated the potential of a high-quality Alpha—his shallow experience was clearly insufficient.
Pei Xingzhi's lips twitched, somewhat regretting that he had insisted on doing something so foolish.
There was nothing he could do; he had already provoked them, so he had no choice but to accept his fate and deal with it.
He was somewhat relieved that he hadn't caused himself any bigger problems, as he could have resolved the issue using the most basic methods.
Pei Xingzhi glanced at her with slight hesitation, but still bit his lip and gritted his teeth to go ahead. His movements were very clumsy, clearly indicating that he didn't do it much. If it weren't for the buff that Pei Xingzhi was known for, Xie Nanyi would probably be completely finished by now.
Xie Nanyi's mind was distracted by Pei Xingzhi's actions, so she could only cover Pei Xingzhi's hands with her own to force him to stop.
If he continues like this without any order, he'll be reporting to the urology department tomorrow—no, not tomorrow, but this afternoon.
"I'll do it..." Xie Nanyi's voice was still hoarse with desire. He placed his large, calloused hands on Pei Xingzhi's hands and guided them to move together.
Pei Xingzhi was completely devoid of his initial arrogance. His head was spinning, and he couldn't understand why he had insisted on provoking Xie Nanyi.
