Chapter 67 [VIP]
Leaving this place was much easier than Pei Xingzhi had imagined.
Perhaps because he had always been a well-behaved and obedient child, no one expected him to do something so rebellious, and therefore no one noticed anything different about him.
Leaving here isn't difficult; the difficult part is making the decision to leave.
But it's not difficult anymore.
As Qin Wanyang had instructed, he added the dean's son as a friend, and they chatted about meaningless things every day. They even ate several meals together with Ms. Qin's help.
Liu Yiyuan was a very gentlemanly Alpha. Even though Pei Xingzhi's attitude remained lukewarm, he maintained his composure perfectly, leaving no room for criticism. Ms. Qin was very satisfied with this future son-in-law; in contrast, Pei Xingzhi's cold attitude greatly displeased her.
Why didn't you go to the movies when Xiao Liu just invited you? And why did you say something that embarrassed him?
"I didn't mean to embarrass him. I've seen that movie before; it's a terrible film," Pei Xingzhi said with innocent-looking eyes, his words carrying a hint of malice. "Besides, I didn't mean to embarrass him either. I have to help my senior record experimental data later, so I don't have time to go to the movies with him."
Pei Xingzhi's gentle and harmless image was so deeply ingrained in people's minds that his words did not arouse any suspicion from Ms. Qin.
After all, in her mind, her youngest son was just a learning machine with little emotional intelligence, and nothing but studying could arouse his interest.
"Are you going back to school this afternoon?" Qin Wanyang asked, taking out her cosmetics to touch up her makeup. It seemed she had somewhere else to go later.
"Well, I probably won't be going home tonight. Tomorrow... I'll try to come back early tomorrow, but it depends on the situation..." Pei Xingzhi didn't really want to participate in her social activities. Lately, he had been using the excuse of going back to school to do experiments to sneak off to Chu Ling's place. The two of them worked tirelessly, which made the originally slow progress leap forward, and now the project was almost in its final stages.
He only needs to pass one last test, and with Xie Nanyi's help, he can get Chu Ling to achieve his goal, and then he can get away completely.
"No." Qin Wanyang finished touching up her makeup, closed the mirror in her hand, and her rosy lips curved into a beautiful smile as she said, word by word, "No matter how important your business is tonight, cancel it."
"……But"
Do you have any objections?
"No..." Pei Xingzhi still didn't have the courage to directly confront Qin Wanyang. "No objections..."
*
Pei Xingzhi's maternal grandparents were both high school teachers. The elderly couple worked diligently their entire lives, accumulating some wealth, but they were far from being wealthy. Similarly, although Ms. Qin Wanyang worked hard her whole life, her background meant that no matter how hard she tried, as a female Omega, she could never achieve any upward social mobility. Therefore, the parties she could attend were mostly low-class venues. Ordinary people couldn't afford to associate with them, but truly wealthy people didn't care about such small parties.
Pei Xingzhi was manipulated by Ms. Qin like a doll, dressed up as she wanted, and then stuffed into a car that his family could never afford.
Pei Xingzhi secretly sized up the luxury car, silently calculating in his mind which car was more expensive, this one or Xie Nanyi's.
Given Xie Nanyi's arrogant personality, she definitely wouldn't settle for a cheap car. It'll probably be like those legendary low-key wealthy people—the car may look ordinary, but its actual price exceeds several million.
"What are you thinking about that makes you laugh so happily?"
Pei Xingzhi was staring at his fingers, lost in thought, when the door on his side was opened from the outside. Liu Yiyuan, whom he had recently mocked, reappeared before him, handing him a glass of iced drink.
"It's a bit hot, would you like some?"
"No need, I've had a bit of diarrhea lately." With Ms. Qin not around, Pei Xingzhi fully embraced his persona of lacking emotional intelligence, forcing a bright smile as he said something that made everyone cringe.
He roughly knew why Ms. Qin had brought him here tonight.
Liu Yiyuan was not angry at Pei Xingzhi's words. Instead, he chuckled lightly without any discrimination.
"I've put it over there. You can help yourself if you want some."
He and Liu Yiyuan didn't have much in common. On the way to the party, Liu Yiyuan did almost all the talking, while Pei Xingzhi just looked at his phone and asked Chu Ling to transmit the experimental data to him.
His desire to leave this place grew even stronger.
The party was held in a villa halfway up a mountain. The two got into their car at the foot of the mountain and, guided by servants, arrived at the banquet venue. Pei Xingzhi didn't belong to this circle, but Liu Yiyuan was clearly somewhat famous, and various kinds of eyes had been falling on them ever since they got out of the car. Of course, most of them were curious and scrutinizing towards Pei Xingzhi.
Pei Xingzhi wasn't used to this kind of occasion, and even less so to the unsettling stares he received. He wanted to hide in a corner by himself, but clearly he didn't have the chance right now. Liu Yiyuan, on the other hand, was used to this kind of situation. He not only had the energy to chat and greet people with ease, but also gestured for Pei Xingzhi to walk with him. Pei Xingzhi touched his neck and declined his offer, stiffly following behind Liu Yiyuan like a lackey.
After finally getting through the crowded area, Liu Yiyuan led him to a less crowded place to sit down.
“My dad and Aunt Qin will probably be here a while. If you don’t mind, why don’t you eat something here first? I heard you skipped your experiment to come here today, but you don’t seem to be used to it. You were probably forced to come by Aunt Qin. Adults’ social activities are really too boring for us.” Liu Yiyuan started the conversation, clearly wanting to have some kind of conversation with Pei Xingzhi. But Pei Xingzhi had no intention of paying attention to him. Being stared at by so many people was already beyond his capacity, and he really wasn’t in the mood to chat with Liu Yiyuan.
"Excuse me..." Pei Xingzhi interrupted Liu Yiyuan, looking up at Liu Yiyuan with an extremely painful expression, hesitant to speak.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Do you need me to call a doctor for you?"
"Um..." Pei Xingzhi bit his lip, seemingly embarrassed about what he was about to say. "Could you tell me where the restroom is? I think I have a bit of diarrhea..."
"..."
With Liu Yiyuan's "helpful" guidance, Pei Xingzhi found the restroom. Before Liu Yiyuan could say anything more, he hurriedly left a thank you and ran inside.
The toilet was much more comfortable than that night.
Pei Xingzhi stayed in the restroom for nearly half an hour, figuring that Liu Yiyuan should have left by then, before opening the door and going out. Liu Yiyuan had indeed already left the entrance. Pei Xingzhi looked around, then, using the people around him as cover, quietly slipped out through the side door.
The only advantage here is that the venue is large enough that even if he leaves the banquet to go for a stroll, he can easily get away with the excuse of getting lost.
Unlike the hustle and bustle of the front hall, the backyard of the villa was very quiet. If it weren't for the streetlights every few steps that illuminated the area and made it less eerie, it would have been a perfect place to kill and dispose of a body.
It might not be so bad if he disappeared from here.
But if his ID card wasn't valid, he wouldn't be able to live the life he wanted. He didn't want to be controlled by Qin Wanyang, nor did he want to live a life of constant hiding. He was now placing all his hopes on Chu Ling, but even Chu Ling himself wasn't confident, let alone taking him along.
Is it really possible for him to escape from here?
If even the older brother couldn't completely separate himself from his family, how could he possibly do it?
If that's the case, it would be better to abort him in the first place. If he hadn't been born, these problems wouldn't have existed, and no one would have been bothered by his presence.
Anyway, no one ever looked forward to his arrival, and no one was happy because of his existence.
"Pei Xiaozhi! You'd rather be bitten by mosquitoes here than reply to my messages?! You've hurt me so much!"
An unexpected sound suddenly rang out from behind him. Pei Xingzhi's body stiffened for a moment, and he comforted himself that he was probably hallucinating.
Xie Nanyi is currently at his home, having just informed him of her itinerary this afternoon. How could she be here now? Could it be that her desperate need for comfort has led her to conjure up images of other people out of thin air?
Could this be a precursor to personality disorder? Has he been driven to mental illness by his family of origin?
"Pei Xiaozhi! You're still ignoring me?" Xie Nanyi's heartfelt complaint went unanswered. No matter how much he tried to play hard to get, he couldn't bear the chill of being ignored by Pei Xingzhi. His emotions controlled his body, and he ran over, only to see Pei Xingzhi getting out of another man's car. Xie Nanyi was never a gentleman, and by the time he came to his senses, he was already there.
"Xie Nanyi? What are you doing here?" Pei Xingzhi was more puzzled than shocked to see someone so out of place appear behind him. Knowing Xie Nanyi's numerous past examples, Pei Xingzhi instinctively took a step back.
This person's sudden appearance without warning is definitely not a good sign.
"Can't I appear before you?" Xie Nanyi approached step by step, standing half a meter away from Pei Xingzhi, arms crossed, looking at him. "You really don't want me to appear? I miss you so much, don't you miss me at all?"
"No, not at all..." Pei Xingzhi replied without a trace of guilt. Putting aside Xie Nanyi's daily harassment with messages, Xie Nanyi would always video check up on him whenever he was with Chu Ling.
Knowing Pei Xingzhi wouldn't answer, he called Chu Ling instead. As one of Chu Ling's "sponsors," Chu Ling naturally had to give him face by answering the video call, and Pei Xingzhi also had to give Chu Ling face by not hanging up. Although the two of them hadn't had any real contact during this time, they had met quite a few times.
So he really didn't want to thank Xie Nanyi at all.
"Don't you really miss me?" The streetlights cast their light from above, and Xie Nanyi, head bowed, his expression hidden in the darkness, stepped forward, pressing closer to Pei Xingzhi and pulling his hand to his face. "Then just say you miss me now, okay? Just say it once~"
“I don’t really want to say this…” Pei Xingzhi pulled his hand back, looking disgusted. “What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you just happened to be passing by.”
"Of course I didn't just happen to be passing by. I came here specifically for you. Who knew you would be so unwelcoming? I'm so heartbroken..." Xie Nanyi lowered her head to wipe away non-existent tears, then took Pei Xingzhi's hand and placed it against her heart. "I have some good news to tell you."
"What good news?"
"Say you miss me." Xie Nanyi looked at him earnestly like a puppy, and that look made Pei Xingzhi unable to say anything to refuse.
"..."
"I miss you..." Although it was just a few simple words, Pei Xingzhi found it particularly difficult to say them.
"I missed you too." Xie Nanyi leaned down and gently kissed the back of Pei Xingzhi's hand, then pulled him into her arms with a little force. Pei Xingzhi let her hold him, and after what seemed like an eternity, he spoke again.
"So what's your good news? If it's still something like you miss me, I'll kill you."
"I got the quota Chu Ling wanted, but the data and materials need to be submitted by next Thursday. However, this seems a bit rushed for you, so I haven't told Chu Ling yet."
"No rush, just right."
