Chapter 235

After a day of sleep, the soreness in my lower back has finally subsided considerably.

When I woke up, it was still dark, the roosters hadn't crowed yet, and I guessed it wasn't even five o'clock.

Lin Yang barely ate anything yesterday; she spent most of her time sleeping.

She could only feel her stomach moving and making soft gurgling sounds, reminding her that she was hungry and needed to eat.

Xu Chengzhi was still fast asleep beside her, his arm wrapped around her.

She quietly lifted his arm and slipped away from his embrace.

When I got up, my legs were so weak from hunger that I almost couldn't stand.

Lin Yang stretched and tiptoed out of the room, intending to go downstairs to find something to eat.

If I remember correctly, there was a refrigerator in the kitchen on the first floor. With so many mouths to feed in this house, there must have been food stored inside.

With this plan in mind, she tiptoed down the stairs to the lobby on the first floor.

"Lin Yang... Lin Yang..."

Passing through the hall, Lin Yang was heading straight for the kitchen, not intending to stop.

To her surprise, she heard a faint male voice coming from the sofa in the living room. Upon closer listening, she realized it was calling her name.

At this hour, there's no task of getting up early to make breakfast today. The staff are still sleeping in their rooms, and the guests should be even more so.

How could there still be people in the hall, with a strong smell of alcohol in the air?

Lin Yang didn't want to disturb others, so she didn't turn on the lights.

The hall was completely dark; apart from the general location of the furniture, nothing else was clearly visible.

Moreover, the person seemed to be lying on the sofa, and the back of the sofa was directly blocking his body.

All that could be seen was a hand lazily draped over the back of the sofa, hanging limply at its sides.

"Lin Yang... Lin Yang..." The person seemed to be in a dreamlike state or drunk, only murmuring her name repeatedly.

Hmm... the voice sounds a little familiar?

Who is calling her?

Driven by curiosity, Lin Yang unconsciously changed her route and slowly walked towards the sofa in the hall.

"Lin Yang... Lin Yang..." The closer he got, the clearer the voice calling her became.

Upon reaching the sofa, Lin Yang lowered her head slightly and bent down.

The man on the sofa bent his long legs, nestled in the sofa, one hand hanging over the edge of the sofa, the other hand resting on the back of the sofa.

His face was buried in the darkness, his lips moved slightly, like a robot that could only repeat itself, his lips opening and closing to utter only two words.

That is her name—Lin Yang.

She brushed aside the loose hair that was blocking her vision and tucked it behind her ear. With her eyes no longer obstructed, she could see the person's face more clearly.

The thin-rimmed glasses were still on the bridge of my nose; I'd forgotten to take them off.

The one who kept calling her name was Chu Yu.

No wonder the voice sounded familiar. She kept calling her name, her voice filled with resentment, as if she were retaliating against her for not letting him call her Lin Yang.

Although he was drunk, his pronunciation was extremely clear.

"Chu Yu?" Lin Yang frowned when he called her that.

Her voice wasn't loud, but whether it was because there were only the two of them in the hall, causing the sound to echo in the empty space, or because Chu Yu was naturally perceptive, it was hard to tell.

He had been keeping his eyes closed, his eyelashes trembling slightly, when suddenly his eyes snapped open.

The moment she opened her eyes, they weren't the deep, affectionate peach blossom eyes that usually shimmered with emerald light, but rather a wary scrutinizing gaze.

Lin Yang was right above them, their eyes meeting without any attempt to look away.

Lin Yang suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
