After signing the last contract, Lin Yang ran out of black pen.
She put down her pen, held the contract in both hands, and solemnly handed the last copy of the contract to Xu Chengzhi.
Rubbing her aching wrist, Lin Yang stared intently at Xu Chengzhi's signature, which resembled a robot's.
He carefully signed the three characters "Xu Chengzhi" in front of Lin Yang.
The signed contracts piled up again into a small hill, and Xu Chengzhi's lips trembled slightly, as if he had something to say to her.
But before she could hear any sound entering her ears, the feeling of that other world trying to suck her away returned.
It was as if an invisible hand had swept across her body, grabbed her soul, and dragged her to another dark yet familiar place.
After a while, she opened her eyes and, sure enough, the world that had been lit by dim yellow lights had turned into endless darkness.
Then, the familiar, cold, mechanical voice rang in my ears again.
"Host, congratulations on completing the mission!" The system congratulated her as usual.
"Hmm." Lin Yang responded listlessly, then eagerly pressed on, "What's the last task?"
"Host, aren't you going to exchange pleasantries? After completing this last mission, you'll be leaving this world forever. Won't you miss me?" The system felt aggrieved by Lin Yang's coldness.
"What the hell? I wish I could leave this world right now!" Lin Yang was unmoved by the system's whining and only wanted to focus on completing the mission.
"Ahem, listen up, host, the last task is..." The system cleared its throat, deliberately whetting Lin Yang's appetite.
The last task she had been looking forward to was about to be released. Lin Yang's heart was pounding with nervousness. She didn't dare to breathe and listened carefully to the system's next sentence.
"The last task is to kill that scumbag Xu Chengzhi." The system read out the task that its master had already prepared in his mind, word by word.
"..." It was like a thunderclap that exploded in Lin Yang's mind.
The last task left her speechless, a stark contrast to her earlier eagerness to ask about it.
"What...what did you say?" Lin Yang took a deep breath and asked the system in a trembling voice, fearing that she had misheard.
This task was never within Lin Yang's expectations from the beginning.
If this had been the first mission released initially, and Lin Yang had never had any contact with Xu Chengzhi, she might have undertaken it without hesitation.
But... after spending so many days together, and even after she had married him, they had been intimate several times.
In this situation, if you asked her to deliver the killing blow, she probably wouldn't even be able to lift a knife.
They are not from the same world. If Lin Yang completes her mission and returns home, Xu Chengzhi will be a vague and ethereal figure in her dream, or a paper doll in a TV show or novel, someone who does not actually exist.
Whether he actually exists or never existed, Lin Yang cannot accept this mission.
"Host, could it be that you're feeling sorry for him?" The system immediately saw through Lin Yang's hesitation and pressed her further, "Have you forgotten, host? He's not a good person. In the previous life, he cheated the original owner out of money and feelings, and even drove her to her death. Didn't he do all that well? What? You've been deceived by his facade? Have you forgotten all the good deeds he did in the previous life?"
“Perhaps, people do change? The previous life is the previous life, and this life is this life. Just like in this life, I am no longer the original owner, right?” Lin Yang lowered her head and silently defended Xu Chengzhi.
