Chapter 96

"Boom!" A thunderclap rang out, as if right next to someone's ear.

Lin Yang was startled awake from her dream by the thunder.

His expression was dazed, and all he could see were the damp cave walls.

She rolled over, and the sight before her almost scared her to death.

"ah!!!"

A man stood at the entrance of the cave.

What frightened her was that the man was dressed in ancient costume, his hair, wet with rain, was disheveled and obscured his face.

This... this can't be some ancient ghost guarding this place, can it?

Lin Yang swallowed hard in fear, not daring to utter a sound.

Attracted by her scream, the man, who was standing at the cave entrance but whose view was blocked by the small waterfall, could not see what was inside the cave.

Upon hearing this shout, the person immediately bent down and crawled inside.

"Ah!! Don't come any closer!" Lin Yang cried out in fear, pressing herself tightly against the wet wall.

Whether the man was startled by her shout or something else, he actually stopped in his tracks and didn't come any closer.

"You... are you a human or a ghost?" Lin Yang mustered her courage and asked the question in a trembling voice.

Lin Yang swallowed several times, nervously scrutinizing the man in front of her.

Upon closer inspection, Lin Yang immediately sensed that something was amiss.

The ancient costume this person is wearing looks familiar. Where have I seen her before?

Upon closer inspection, it appeared that his ancient costume had been torn, with large sections ripped and bloodstains on it.

Something's not right.

How could a ghost bleed?

I want to see who's trying to scare me with these ghost stories!

After thinking about it carefully, Lin Yang realized that the silent man was deliberately trying to scare her.

She stood up angrily, rushed forward, and pushed aside his wet hair that was covering his face.

The man revealed his true colors.

"Xu Chengzhi? How is it you?" Lin Yang was so shocked when she saw the man's face that she almost bit her tongue.

Xu Chengzhi was swaying unsteadily, his face was pale, and he was biting his lower lip as if he was enduring something.

"What's wrong with you? I haven't even settled the score with you for scaring me yet! Why are you so quiet? Trying to be cool?" Lin Yang thought Xu Chengzhi was trying to scare her by remaining silent.

To get him to speak, he stretched out a long, slender finger, stood on tiptoe, and poked his shoulder to reprimand him.

Unexpectedly, with just a gentle poke, Xu Chengzhi fell backward.

It's like a flower that's lost its vitality and is about to wither.

"Oh my god! Xu Chengzhi, don't scare me! What's wrong with you?" Lin Yang gently patted Xu Chengzhi's cheek, but he slowly closed his eyes, tilted his head, and stopped responding.

Lin Yang shakily stretched out a bent hand and brought it close to Xu Chengzhi's nose.

A faint breath sprayed onto Lin Yang's fingertips, which made her feel a little at ease.

Fortunately, I'm still alive.

However, his face is so pale, he must have been injured somewhere.

Lin Yang recalled the bloodstains on his clothes and glanced at him.

Finally, it rests on the calf.

Lin Yang reached out and lifted the cloth covering the wound, discovering that blood was still seeping out underneath.

She ripped the tangled fabric off, revealing Xu Chengzhi's fair and slender calves.

The injury was quite frightening; something sharp had pierced his calf, leaving a deep wound with a ring of teeth marks.

Lin Yang guessed, and preliminarily determined, that the marks were left by an animal trap.

Where did Xu Chengzhi go? How did he end up accidentally stepping into a bear trap?

How much pain did he endure to pull out the animal trap and then drag his injured leg here?

Everything turned into a series of question marks, swirling around in Lin Yang's mind.
