Chapter 52
The refugees around were in a state of panic. They stood and watched. The desire for food in their eyes had reached its limit, but fear still prevailed.
Cassel stood next to Bai Yi and wanted to tell them that he meant no harm, but Bai Yi pulled him aside and handed him a bowl of porridge to drink.
Cassel was hungry, so he didn't think much about it. He held the bowl and gulped down the whole bowl. At the moment he finished drinking, an elderly man came over with her thin granddaughter and begged Cassel if he could give her a bowl of porridge.
Of course Cassel nodded.
He filled a bowl of porridge, held it in both hands and handed it to the old man. The old man thanked him repeatedly. Cassel filled another bowl and handed it to the little girl. The little girl was timid and afraid of everyone, but she dared to look at Cassel.
She took the bowl and said thank you brother.
Cassel's face turned slightly red, and he felt a little embarrassed. He whispered, "You're welcome."
After the first person, there was the second person, and the third person. Gradually, more and more people came and it started to get a little chaotic, so Bai Yi asked the servants to organize the team.
I thought it would go on like this forever, but it didn't. The sound of bells and horse hooves approached, and the refugees who were waiting for porridge spread out in panic, one after another, crowding and pushing each other. I didn't know who fell first, and screams and cries suddenly came out from the crowd.
Bai Yi, who was taking their pulse, frowned. He told the patients not to move, but no one listened to him, and no one would listen to him.
The pure power manifested, freezing the people who were in the crowd. Both the person who was about to laugh evilly and the people in the crowd stood still.
Cassel had sharp eyes and caught a glimpse of the child being stepped on the ground. It was the little girl he had just fed porridge to.
Without thinking much, he stretched out his wings and flapped them as he came there. He picked up the little girl from the crowd, put her on the ground, and then went back and forth to help up those who had fallen.
Cassel was afraid that his power would not last long, so he began to use all his magic power to keep these people still. He wanted to take the horse away.
But it's too heavy.
He couldn't lift it. Cassel flapped his wings so hard that wind was created and dust almost covered the ground. He was able to barely move the horse and the man a little, but at least they changed direction.
Bai Yi used his magic power to break through the shackles of Cassel's magic power and wanted to rush over to help him, but he suddenly heard someone shouting at the top of his voice not far away:
"Monster! A monster!"
Bai Yi felt very disappointed. Regardless of everything, he locked onto the man and tried to chase him, but Cassel's power disappeared at this moment and he could no longer control a large number of people. The crowd blocked Bai Yi and he couldn't chase after him.
The moment his wings folded and hid, Cassel fell down, holding onto the wall, his face pale. He forced himself to stand to prevent himself from falling.
Everyone regained consciousness and the surrounding area became noisy again. The refugees fled in panic, the sounds of horse hooves and bells became farther and farther away, and the crowd became quieter and quieter. Some left and some did not, but fortunately, there was no more trampling incident.
Cassel saw the rescued little girl sitting on the ground, looking at everything around her in a daze, and finally her eyes fell on Cassel.
Cassel smiled subconsciously, but then he wondered if this would scare the little girl. Just when he was about to stop smiling, the little girl came over, stumbling.
Cassel was afraid that she would fall, so he forced himself to go over and hug her.
"elder brother."
The little girl huddled in Cassel's arms, feeling light and fluttery, with almost no flesh on her body except for her bones which were so hard that they seemed like they could break with the slightest force.
Cassel felt a pain in his heart. He touched the little girl's cheek and whispered, "Don't be afraid..."
"Brother... is he a god?" The little girl coughed weakly. Her face was as pale as a fallen leaf in autumn, without a trace of life. She gently held Cassel's thumb and tried to smile, "I saw it..."
Cassel was stunned.
"Brother..." she said, "I won't tell you... I like you, you are a god... Will God... save us?"
Cassel's nose felt sore. He began to feel uncomfortable, and he couldn't breathe as if he was drowning. He curled up in pain and moved closer to the little girl. His tears fell drop by drop on the little girl's face. He thought of the Jingguan and everything he saw. People can’t even get enough to eat, but fish can be so fat.
"I, I don't know..." Cassel opened his mouth, his throat blocked and he choked, "I'm not... God, I'm a devil, I'm just a little devil..."
"Brother is not a demon," the little girl smiled weakly. She slowly raised her hands and her eyes began to go blank. "I am in so much pain... I saw my mother..."
"Mom is calling me to eat..."
The little hand was placed on Cassel's cheek, feeling the warmth, and tears flowed down her palm, smooth and hot.
Cassel kept saying sorry, his voice trembling and unclear, full of self-blame.
"Brother...how could he be...a demon..."
The delicate arm fell, and Cassel stared blankly at the little girl in front of him, who tilted her head and stopped breathing, never to breathe again.
Her body began to cool and become cold, and Castle just held her, motionless.
A refugee nearby asked: "Sir, can you give her to us to eat? She has no meat, you can't eat it..."
"roll."
Cassel replied.
Bai Yi came over, a little impatient. He looked at Cassel and saw that he was crying. He was stunned for a moment and felt bad. He quickly comforted him and then said, "Don't cry."
"Don't worry about that for now. A mortal saw your wings. I just went to chase him, but he disappeared. Come with me to take a look."
…
Cassel handed the body to the servants and asked them to bury her with honor. Then he wiped his tears and went out with Bai Yi. On the way, Bai Yi told others about the person he saw.
"There were burns on his face, covering almost half of his face. There was a long scar from the corner of his eye to the middle of his lips... He ran towards this busy city and suddenly disappeared."
Cassel looked around and saw that no one was coming, so he thought about using the spell again to see if he could find the person, but before he started, he heard the sound of a whip breaking through the air again.
He and Bai Yi were stunned and turned around.
The sound of horse hooves approached, and someone in fine clothes, riding on a horse, looked down at them and said, "You are the ones pretending to be good people, feeding porridge to those untouchables."
Cassel stood in front of Bai Yi and looked at him warily.
Bai Yi dragged the man behind him and said, "Brother, we don't know you. It's just giving out porridge, and it didn't cost you any money, so why are you so possessive?"
The young man in fancy clothes sneered and did not answer his question. Instead, he ordered, "Catch him."
The moment the words fell, the surrounding space suddenly froze.
Cassel and Bai Yi looked at each other and hurriedly walked away. By the time the young man reacted, there was no one in front of him.
The people around looked at each other.
The young man sneered and casually glanced at the refugee who was kowtowing not far away. The moment the refugee raised his head, he revealed the horrifying scar and the burns that almost covered half of his face, which was really terrifying.
"Your Highness, please spare my life, Your Highness, please spare my life..."
"It seems to be true, the gods have come down to earth." The young man in splendid clothes slowly rolled up the whip and said, "But why did he end up in the mansion of that madman Zhao Ying..."
The man was still begging for mercy: "Your Highness, please spare my life, Your Highness, please spare my life..."
"What a noise!" the young man waved his hand and said, "Drag him away and beat him to death."
The man's eyes were wide open and filled with fear. He struggled but was dragged away and beaten with his mouth covered. After a while, the whimpering sound could no longer be heard.
A guard stepped forward and said, "Your Highness, today Young Marquis Zhao met with His Majesty. The two talked for two hours and did not let anyone in to serve them."
The young man said casually: "Did the old man give any orders?"
The guard hesitated: "Your Majesty said..."
"say what"
"Say... the Yihe matter is over, the envoys from Liang and Beiyuan are killed, and Zhao Ying is appointed as the Grand Marshal Sima to lead the three armies and go to war."
…
Cassel and Bai Yi ran to the mansion breathlessly, just in time to see a crowd of people kneeling on the floor in the room. The eunuch in front of them was reading the imperial edict in a shrill voice, and then looked at Nie Wuhen who had been standing there, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and said congratulations to Marshal Sima.
Nie Wuhen rolled up the imperial edict and watched him leave. He looked back and saw Bai Yi and Cassel standing beside the rockery looking at him.
When Cassel saw the man leave, he immediately rushed over and called him Nie Wuhen in a wronged manner.
Nie Wuhen took the disguise pill, hugged him, and asked him who bullied him?
Cassel pursed his lips and said nothing. Nie Wuhen did not ask any more questions, but looked at Bai Yi. Bai Yi explained the matter in a few words. When he talked about seeing the wings, he spoke slower.
Bai Yi said: "Although we are all mortals... I still feel uneasy. If someone takes advantage of us, it will be difficult to deal with."
Nie Wuhen replied that it was okay.
Seeing this, Bai Yi said nothing more. Then he watched Nie Wuhen bend down and walk forward with Cassel on his back. Cassel hugged his neck and repeated what happened today in a wronged manner.
Bai Yi: “…”
Nie Wuhen carried Cassel on his back all the way to the room. Cassel kept accusing the rulers. He wanted to curse, but he kept repeating the same few words, such as bastard and waste. Nie Wuhen listened patiently all the way.
"Nie Wuhen," Cassel jumped off Nie Wuhen and asked him in a low voice, "Why didn't God... save them?"
"Gods cannot interfere with cause and effect," Nie Wuhen pinched his chin, wiped the tears that fell on his eyelashes, and said, "Master saved me back then, and ruined hundreds of years of Taoism... Except for Master, no one would bear their cause and effect to save a mortal. Besides, there are too many to save."
“Then why do they still worship God?”
"Because there is no hope, they can only place unrealistic hopes in nothingness, similar to a kind of spiritual sustenance. If they don't worship, they may not be able to survive."
Cassel looked at him, his nose all red. He rubbed his eyes and said sullenly, "I saw a little girl... I couldn't save her, she died in my arms, I was so sad..." As he spoke, he pulled Nie Wuhen's hand, put it against his heart, and sobbed, "But I'm a little devil... I shouldn't be sad... But I am just very sad..."
