The tent creaked and groaned, like the mournful cry of something about to shatter.
No time to waste on arguing with the system!
Su Chen grabbed Bo Lie and ran towards the space with larger gaps that she had mentioned earlier, breaking through the zombies with each kick.
Bo Lie also unleashed several bolts of lightning, causing the zombies to visibly falter.
Fortunately, these zombies were mentally deficient, relying entirely on instinct to move their bodies, and their joints were not flexible enough; otherwise, the two of them would not have been able to break through the encirclement so easily.
Su Chen dared not think too much or look back. She only knew to grab Bo Lie and run for her life. After running for about three minutes, Su Chen felt her legs getting heavier and heavier. It was as if her legs were being sucked into the ground and she couldn't lift them at all!
Bo Lie noticed that her movements were getting slower and slower, so he quickly encouraged her loudly, "Su Chen! You can do it! Hurry up! The zombies are coming!"
Su Chen only knew that Bo Lie was talking to her, but she didn't know what he was saying. Her mind was filled with thoughts like, "I'm suffocating!" "I'm going to die!" "I don't want to run anymore!"
"Hurry up! They're really catching up!" Bo Lie's voice had a slightly nasal tone.
Su Chen opened her mouth wide and gasped for air, her lungs feeling like they were about to explode, and a metallic taste rose in her throat. She had truly reached her limit...
Her vision blurred, then flashed white. She gripped Bo Lie's hand tightly and said, "You go, I can't run anymore. Hurry up!"
Bo Lie acted as if he hadn't heard her, and kept pulling her hand forward.
However, when running at such high intensity or even anaerobic conditions, especially when you're running for your life, anyone would instinctively want to shake off the person behind them.
But Bo Lie did not do that...
Su Chen felt a warmth in her heart. In the apocalypse, very few people retained their kind hearts, and she was fortunate to meet one.
When she read novels featuring characters like this, she would scoff and quickly flip through the pages. She used to think that such people were brainless, and that if it were her, she would definitely shake off the person behind her to survive if she herself was in danger.
But when it really came to this, she realized how much she wished there was someone who could hold her back and help her survive.
Su Chen smiled, wanting to do something good for the first time.
She deliberately stabbed Bo Lie's palm hard with her fingernails. When Bo Lie felt the pain and loosened his grip slightly, Su Chen broke free and pushed her forward.
"You!" Bo Lie's eyes widened. "Don't give up! I've been holding you back like this!"
Su Chen shook her head. Really, it was too tiring... She felt like she was about to die. She might as well stay and fight the zombies. Maybe she could even out-bite one or two of them.
"Run! Call for help!" Su Chen shouted at her.
Bo Lie nodded and ran off as fast as he could.
Su Chen thought to herself, "As long as this silly girl is alive, that's all that matters."
She turned around and saw that the group of zombies had surrounded her.
They drew closer and closer, so close that Su Chen could smell the stench of decay on them, and so close that she could see the fungi and even insects that were decomposing them.
Su Chen felt nauseous; she thought she probably couldn't bring herself to eat it...
Seeing that she was about to be cornered, Su Chen closed her eyes, raised her arm, and was about to start hitting him randomly.
A clear, cool voice whispered in her ear, "Afraid?"
Su Chen didn't dare to open her eyes, she just nodded.
The next second, she felt herself being held in someone's arms, and a faint scent of soap wafted towards her... She felt like she'd smelled this somewhere before...
