The capital city, the imperial palace.
Ningluo carried the ginger tea into the imperial study.
Jun Moyao coughed occasionally as she looked at the memorial.
"Your cold isn't better yet, why are you up again?" Ning Luo frowned.
Jun Moyao took the ginger tea and sipped it, feeling her throat feel better. "I've been busy with official business for several days now, and I can't put it off any longer today."
Ningluo walked behind him and massaged his shoulders.
"You've worked so hard by my side all these years." Jun Moyao reached out and patted Ning Luo's hand.
“What’s so hard about it? I’d be happy to go through anything by your side.” Ning Luo smiled faintly.
Jun Moyao said in a low voice, "I know you've always wanted to go home."
Ning Luo was taken aback, and her hand stopped moving.
"Are you trying to ask me how I knew?" Jun Moyao said to herself, "I knew from the first time I saw you."
"I knew I couldn't hide it from Your Majesty." Ningluo withdrew her hand. "So, does Your Majesty intend to punish me?"
Jun Moyao turned around and grabbed her hand. "What nonsense are you talking about? I've been keeping quiet because I felt there was no need to say it."
"So you've kept me completely in the dark all this time?" Ningluo's eyes were brimming with tears, but she held them back from falling.
Jun Moyao put her arm around her shoulder and used her thumb to wipe away her tears.
"What I love is you as a person, your soul. I don't care where you came from, I only care whether you will continue to stay by my side in the future. Do you understand?"
"Really?" Ningluo couldn't stop the tears from flowing.
"Of course." Jun Moyao embraced her. "Otherwise, why would I have agreed to your sister's wish to be with you for life?"
Ningluo burst into laughter through her tears, "The child is already over ten years old and almost an adult, yet you still say such mushy things."
"Cheesy?" Jun Moyao raised an eyebrow. "I feel like you quite like hearing that."
Ninglu punched him.
"Stop crying?" Jun Moyao looked down and smiled at her.
Ningluo wiped her eyes and denied it, saying, "Where did I cry?"
Jun Moyao said with a wry smile, "Alright, my empress didn't cry. After all, she's a mother, so she's very strong."
Ninglu rolled her eyes at him. "How does being a mother make you strong?"
"When the Crown Prince was born, the Empress was much stronger than I was," Jun Moyao recalled.
He stood at the door of the delivery room countless times, listening to the cries inside, his heart aching as if it were being torn apart. Several times he tried to kick the door open, but was stopped by the guards.
On the day Ningluo gave birth, he beat several guards who tried to stop him until they vomited blood.
Fortunately, the midwife told Ning Luo inside, and Ning Luo, enduring the pain, shouted, "Jun Moyao! You shut up! I can't give birth anymore!"
After hearing her shout, Jun Moyao stood obediently at the door without moving, but the sweat on his neck revealed how nervous he was.
He only relaxed when he heard a baby crying in the night. It was thanks to his years of martial arts training that he was able to keep his mind steady; otherwise, he would have fainted long ago after standing for ten hours with such a restless mind.
Upon learning that it was a prince, his face immediately darkened.
He waited all day and all he got was a brat?!
Ningluo noticed his unhappiness and immediately started crying in front of her. Luckily, the wet nurse said that crying during postpartum confinement would hurt his eyes and managed to persuade Ningluo to stop.
Ning Luo recalled that day with a laugh and said, "That day almost made me furious. Did I live all this time just to please you?"
"Yes, yes, it's my fault, please forgive me." Jun Moyao quickly apologized.
