Chapter 469 Extortion

Su Chen spent several days having in-depth conversations with Bai Chan before discovering that this lovely, delicate gardenia fairy was actually born a fairy!

Seriously, comparisons are odious. The key point is that this Fairy Bai Chan is incredibly wealthy, and her parents are even important figures in the celestial realm.

Who told her before that she was a fairy? That she was like a drifting duckweed? That she was being manipulated by others?

"I really believed your nonsense." Su Chenxin felt a little tired.

Bai Chan was tending to the magical herbs in the courtyard when she heard Su Chen mutter something, but didn't quite catch it. She turned around, blinked her big eyes, and asked, "What did you say?"

"It's nothing." Su Chen rested her chin on her hand, looking at the few silver-scaled fairy fish in the pond in the courtyard.

Those few fairy fish were usually fed too much by Bai Chan, so they would hide whenever they saw people. As soon as Su Chen came over, the fish swam away as if they were fleeing, as if some ferocious demon had come to their rescue.

As the pool returned to calm, Su Chen's face was reflected in the water.

This face bears a resemblance to her face before she time-traveled to the modern era, especially her eyes, which resemble crescent moons when she smiles.

Su Chen believed that her modern eyes were the only redeeming feature of her face.

Since she was little, people have said that she is dark-skinned, short, that her studies are average, that she is just average in everything, and that she is like a transparent person in class.

Her face is so striking that no one would recognize her if she were placed on the street.

Only her eyes, everyone says they're like a fox's, I've never seen her with such an upturned, yet cunning look.

Whenever someone says she looks like a fox, she winks at them and jokingly says, "Maybe I was a fox in my past life?"

As Su Chen thought of the past, her eyes couldn't help but curve into crescent shapes again.

Her face can now be described as beautiful: an oval face, fair skin, healthy light pink lips, and arched eyebrows—a classic beauty.

Thinking back to my past self, I used to be lost in the crowd watching those beautiful women who were loved by many people, and I was always envious.

Even though she had traveled through all these worlds, she had never really seen the face of the body she had inhabited, not even the villainous boss's...

Why did the villainous boss fall for her? Was it because the world she traveled to had those beautiful faces?

She thought about how many times she had felt attracted to him, but those feelings would vanish the next day, as if there was a hole in her chest that swallowed up all her emotions.

Su Chen felt a lump in her throat, her fingers rubbing the surface of the pool, no longer looking at her reflection.

I don't know if he will come to this world, or if he has remembered those things from the past.

"I don't know where that damn system went, it just ended up here with me." Su Chen pouted.

"There's some kind of festival coming up in a few days. Anyway, all the river lanterns from the human realm will flow down the Milky Way to the celestial realm. I go to the Milky Way every year to collect the river lanterns and read the notes inside. Let's go together this year."

"On the third day of the third lunar month, the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, the Qixi Festival, the Qiqiao Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, people release river lanterns, right?" Su Chen recalled.

Bai Chan asked in surprise, "Huh? Didn't you rise from the demon realm? How come you're so familiar with human festivals? Did you sneak off to the human realm too?"

"You've also been to the human realm?" Su Chen pointed out the word "also" in her words.

"Um... cough cough cough..." Bai Chan coughed wildly to cover up the fact that she had secretly gone to the human world.

"Tsk tsk tsk."

Su Chen chuckled and said, "Why are you so nervous? I'm not going to tell anyone."

"I'm not afraid of others finding out, I'm afraid of my parents finding out!" A few drops of cold sweat dripped down Bai Chan's forehead. "If my parents find out, they'll probably skin me alive."

"Tsk tsk tsk, I thought you were fearless." Su Chen said with amusement.

"No, no, no, I'm afraid of many things, like bugs." Bai Chan trembled as she mentioned bugs.

Su Chen, in a playful mood, asked, "What kind of insect? A caterpillar, a beetle, a rhinoceros beetle..."

"Stop, stop, stop! Su Chen! You're so annoying!" Bai Chan laughed and pointed the spout of the watering can at Su Chen.

Su Chen laughed as she dodged, listing all the insects she knew in her life.

...

On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Don't ask Su Chen how she knew; she just deduced it from celestial phenomena and the moon. Yes, that's how awesome she is now (lol...).

Su Chen followed Bai Chan as they drifted downstream along the Milky Way.

Of course, the two of them put a lot of thought into avoiding the notice of the immortals.

Bai Chan first led Su Chen to the place where she had secretly descended to the mortal realm before, and then the two of them transformed into their original forms and drifted down with the flow of the Milky Way.

This method is effortless, and more importantly, it is difficult for other immortals to detect without using magic.

The two of them transformed into a tree and a flower, drifting along. When they got bored, they chatted. Looking at the starry sky, Su Chen was surprisingly happy. Most surprisingly, she discovered that she was no longer afraid of the dark!

The two drifted halfway and, seeing no immortals, activated their minor magic to drift even faster, reaching the human realm in less than half an hour.

Bai Chan told her how to determine whether she had arrived in the human realm.

There is a red mist that is ten feet long at the boundary between the human realm and the immortal realm. Passing through this mist leads to the human realm.

The two transformed back into human figures in the mortal realm, found a shady spot, leaped onto the shore, and with a hand seal, the water vapor on their bodies vanished.

Then they observed the clothes of the people walking along the riverbank, and the two of them conjured up clothes to wear in the same way.

Su Chen wore a white ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress), and her outer garment was also made in the shape of silk. The white ruqun shimmered with a pale yellow light under the moonlight, making her look like a banished immortal. (Well, actually, she really was an immortal.)

Bai Chan was getting tired of wearing white in the immortal realm. When she saw a woman releasing river lanterns wearing a light red dress, she was immediately moved and changed into a light red dress to wear as well. She draped a long shawl that reached the ground around her elbows, which made her face even more adorable.

Seeing that everyone else had river lanterns, the two of them found a place selling river lanterns.

Bai Chan picked up the river lantern and examined it closely, noting how exquisitely it was made.

"Hey, little girl, here's the money," the vendor said, holding out his hand.

"Money?" Bai Chan looked at Su Chen with some confusion.

"These are the immortal stones we use to buy things," Su Chen explained from the side.

"Oh." Bai Chan tried to take out a magic stone from her sleeve, but couldn't get it out no matter how hard she tried. Then she remembered that she hadn't brought anything with her when she went down to the mortal realm to float across the Milky Way.

Su Chen patted her hand to reassure her, then turned to her and said, "We didn't say we were going to buy it, so why should we pay?"

"The little girl has already taken her hand, how am I supposed to sell?" the vendor said, raising his squinty eyes and pursing his lips.

Su Chen thought to herself that she had probably encountered a forced sale, so she asked Bai Chan to put down the river lantern and try to pull her away.

The vendor then grabbed the hem of her clothes and shouted, "Hey! Someone's trying to steal the river lantern without paying!"
