Chapter 470 First Encounter

The area around the river lantern stall was already crowded with people, and when the vendor staged this "accident scam," the crowd grew even larger.

Although Bai Chan had descended to the mortal realm before, she had only dared to observe secretly from the shadows. She had never stood so openly before humans before. Now, with so many people watching, her snow-white face was already flushed red.

"Can this be used as a substitute for that river lantern?" A piece of jade was placed in front of the vendor.

The merchant hurriedly picked up the jade and looked at it against the moon. He immediately realized that the jade was exquisite and translucent, and was no ordinary piece. Judging from the material, it was worth at least a year's income for him.

While ordinary people couldn't see it, Su Chen and Bai Chan both noticed that the jade was shrouded in a soft, pale yellow light when the merchant held it up to the light.

They exchanged a glance, then immediately picked up two river lanterns and ran off.

Unbeknownst to anyone, a young man in white robes and fine clothes in the crowd subtly curled his lips in the direction the two had left.

Su Chen and Bai Chan ran to a less crowded riverbank (yes, they ran, because they couldn't reveal that they knew magic) before stopping.

Bai Chan recalled the glowing stone from earlier and asked curiously, "Su Chen, what was that stone you were holding just now? I feel like I've seen it somewhere before?"

"It's jade from the water." Su Chen felt a pang of heartache thinking about the jade she had given to the merchant earlier. That was her treasure! How valuable it was! Today she had exchanged it for two paper river lanterns; she felt utterly cheated.

"Jade?" Bai Chan recalled the one the vendor had just held. "Wasn't that just an ordinary stone?"

"Ordinary stone. Your ordinary stone glows? Your ordinary stone has such good water content? And it's so exquisite and translucent?" Su Chen was ranting wildly.

Unexpectedly, Bai Chan nodded her head and said, "That's right, my Shi Tou is like that."

Su Chen rolled her eyes. Well, she's a rich second-generation heiress from the immortal realm, and her stones are just so-so, aren't they? There are even several warm jade stones emitting golden light in the fish tank.

"Hey, Su Chen, there's a sacrificial ceremony going on in that boat! I've seen it before!" Bai Chan tugged at Su Chen's sleeve and excitedly pointed to the painted boat in the middle of the river.

Su Chen looked up and saw a group of scantily clad beauties dancing, while a bearded uncle stood there watching with a wine glass in hand.

Su Chen understood immediately and quickly covered Bai Chan's eyes, dragging and pulling her away.

"Su Chen, what are you doing? My second uncle received such sacrifices and offerings before, and he told me not to reveal the secrets of heaven to others." Bai Chan was very puzzled.

Su Chen, her face full of black lines, said, "Stay away from your second uncle from now on. He's not a good person."

Bai Chan puffed out her cheeks and said, "My second uncle is so handsome and dashing that many fairies in the celestial realm want to be his Daoist partner! But my second uncle said he didn't want to hold them back, so he hasn't become Daoist partners with any fairy yet."

"Are you sure it's not that he hasn't had enough fun and therefore doesn't want to become a Daoist partner?" Su Chen asked, covering her face.

“Su Chen, you’ve never even met my second uncle, how can you have such a big misunderstanding about him? My second uncle is a good immortal!” Bai Chan said earnestly.

Su Chen knew that this second uncle seemed to be very important to Bai Chan, so she had no choice but to compromise and say, "Alright, alright, he's a good immortal."

Upon hearing this, Bai Chan smiled broadly and said, "Yes, I'll introduce you two when we get back."

"No, no. Please don't." Su Chen waved her hands repeatedly, taking several steps back.
