Save the Family Doctor (VI)
Jiang Yuanshi once picked up a puppy.
A brown puppy with black legs, whose breed is hard to tell.
Jiang Yuanshi picked up the puppy when he was 10 years old. He had no intention of taking it home, or rather, he had no intention of getting close to it at all.
On the way home from school that day, he crawled out of the dark alley as usual, brushed off the dust and footprints on his body and walked on the way home. When he passed the park, he saw a yellow thing coiled under a swing not far away, motionless, with a small pool of black and red marks under it.
It was late in the evening, the sun was half hanging on the horizon, and there were many people coming and going on this road. Jiang Yuanshi glanced at the thing from a distance, then looked away and continued walking.
We are not allowed to keep animals at home. If it is my grandmother, it would definitely be okay, but my parents' house does not accept any foreign species, and I don't know if this includes Jiang Yuanshi.
Jiang Yuanshi was walking on the way home. The sky darkened, a chill hit his face, and it began to rain.
The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and the footsteps of people returning home were getting faster and faster. The footsteps stopped halfway, and then quickened.
It turns out that the yellow ball is a puppy.
Jiang Yuanshi, who was soaked, watched the doctor wrap a piece of cloth around the brown puppy.
Considering that he was an elementary school student, the doctor kindly gave him a discount. Jiang Yuanshi spent all the pocket money he had saved in his schoolbag, which was just enough.
Logically, he should have kept the puppy in the hospital, but he had no money.
Young children don’t know how to abandon something with peace of mind, so Jiang Yuanshi stood at the door holding the puppy in his schoolbag.
Unfortunately, Mom and Dad got off work early today, so he couldn't hide the puppy.
The door opened and he looked up at his mother. His mother's eyes were cold and she asked him why he came home so late and why he hadn't cooked.
Jiang Yuanshi stood at the door and opened his schoolbag. A puppy poked its head out, and the two, one smaller, looked at each other helplessly.
The mother frowned with a unhappy expression. Behind her was the father who was sitting at the dining table looking at his mobile phone. The father asked him why he brought a dog home when he knew that animals were not allowed at home, and asked him if he was being disobedient.
Jiang Yuanshi apologized and begged his parents to take in the puppy for a few days, and he would let the puppy go after its injuries healed.
The rain made my clothes wet and cold against my skin. After standing in front of the door for a long time, a small puddle of water formed at the door.
It must be the neighbor next door who opened the door, and then Jiang Yuanshi entered the house.
He carefully walked across the floor of his house, hid his schoolbag in the room, unzipped it, and let the puppy out.
His father didn't move and continued to look at his phone. His mother stood at the door with a frown on her face and told him that she would send the dog away tomorrow.
When the puppy opened its black eyes and looked at Jiang Yuan, there was no emotion in its eyes. The puppy looked like a mentally retarded person and could not speak.
But this is just right, as animals that don't bark can stay at home.
Jiang Yuanshi touched the dog's head. His technique was clumsy. The animal's fur was very soft and slippery. He couldn't help but touch it a few more times. When he looked up, his mother was standing at the door looking at him expressionlessly. Jiang Yuanshi withdrew his hand.
Jiang Yuanshi was very obedient. He took a shower as his parents told him to. Before going to the bathroom, he stuffed the puppy under the bed.
After taking a shower and changing his clothes, he used a rag to wipe the water stains on the floor.
He felt his face itchy while eating. When he looked in the mirror at night, he found that there was a wound on his face, which was red and swollen.
He closed the door and applied the medicine.
The puppy was asleep on the ground, motionless but still breathing.
Jiang Yuanshi secretly put the puppy into his quilt, letting the warmth dispel the cold. He fell asleep imagining the scene where his parents would change their minds and keep the puppy tomorrow.
Maybe the puppy was too warm, Jiang Yuanshi felt very hot and dizzy when he woke up again. It was already the next day.
His fantasy came true. His mother asked him to go to school and left the dog behind. Before leaving, she touched his forehead for the first time ever and reminded him not to fail the exam as he had one today.
Jiang Yuanshi was very happy and he went to school like this. He probably had a fever and fainted in the class before school was over.
When he woke up, he was in his bed at home.
There was a strange smell coming from the house, like someone was cooking.
Jiang Yuanshi opened the door. His father was still looking at his phone. His mother asked him to sit down and wait for dinner. Jiang Yuanshi sat in his chair and asked after a long while, "My... puppy is missing."
My father said the puppy ran away when the door was open.
The mother said the puppy didn't run away.
Jiang Yuanshi's head was dizzy and he didn't quite understand, but he wanted to go find the puppy.
As soon as he stood up, he was asked to sit down. Jiang Yuanshi wanted to find the puppy, but the puppy's injury had not healed yet.
His father said that Jiang Yuanshi was disobedient and rebellious.
Mother was silent in the kitchen.
Jiang Yuanshi finally sat down in his seat. He was so anxious that he felt like he was about to catch fire.
He whispered that he was a little hot and asked if he could change his clothes.
Father said: Because you have a fever.
Mother said: Because you are sick.
That requires medicine. Grandma always feeds him medicine when he is sick.
But his parents asked him to sit and wait.
What are you waiting for? Jiang Yuanshi didn't understand.
Of course, I'm waiting for your medicine.
Why should I wait for the medicine? Isn't it time to eat now?
Jiang Yuanshi felt even more dizzy.
The strange smell was getting closer and closer, and his breathing became rapid as he smelled it.
Mother came and father looked up and said his medicine had arrived.
Jiang Yuanshi was looking at his medicine with his eyes open, and his medicine was also looking at him with its eyes open in the dinner plate.
That was his puppy, intact, curled up, with its eyes open, showing no emotion. It was steaming and emitting a strange smell that hurt his eyes. Tears kept flowing out, and he couldn't make a sound.
His mother touched his head and said: You are sick, dog meat is a tonic.
Why?
Because of the puppy, he fell ill and did not do well in the exam, so the puppy had to make up for it.
"You have to be an obedient child."
"So, eat it and you'll be cured."
…
Jiang Yuanshi really didn't remember what happened afterwards.
When he came to his senses, he was already standing in a forest. It was an artificial lake park far away from his home, and there was a forest inside.
He held the puppy in his arms. The puppy's body was very cold and no longer soft, and its fur soaked his clothes on his chest.
He walked a long way, into the innermost part of the woods, and dug a big hole with a spoon that he had put in his hand at some point.
When people die, they go to the cemetery, and so do puppies.
But the puppy couldn't close its eyes and just stared at him.
The dust would fall into the eyes and it would be very painful. Jiang Yuanshi took off his coat, wrapped the puppy up, put it in the pit, and buried it with soil little by little. The soil piled up more and more, forming a mountain peak with a small spoon on the top of the mountain.
The puppy had no name. The young child apologized and promised to stay with the puppy after his death if the puppy still needed him.
But maybe it's unnecessary, because he is the direct murderer of the puppy. Jiang Yuanshi thinks so, and his parents think so too.
Jiang Yuanshi forgot how he got home, but he was surprised to find that the table at home was gone and his parents looked at him with a fleeting fear.
Jiang Yuanshi was asked to apologize, and Jiang Yuanshi apologized.
The parents were very happy and everything was back to normal again.
They said, "If you hadn't brought it home, it wouldn't have gotten sick, its grades wouldn't have dropped, and the puppy wouldn't have died."
"You have to remember that you are the one who actually killed the puppy."
Jiang Yuanshi nodded, went back to the room and stuck the full-score test paper in his schoolbag on the wall so that he could see it as soon as he opened the door.
But no one cares.
Just like before Jiang Yuanshi's death, no one cared.
…
Jiang Yuanshi opened his eyes.
The crystal chandelier on the ceiling is dazzling.
He frowned and tried to get up, but found himself so light that the crystal chandelier almost poked his eyes.
"Host, are you awake? Please don't move, your soul body can easily fly away."
Z01 had transformed into a human form at some point, and was now reaching out to grab Jiang Yuanshi's ankle and pull him down.
Jiang Yuanshi was a little confused. He went from looking down at Z01 to looking at it level. He asked, "What happened?"
Z01: "When you saw me in dog form, you broke a cup, walked up to me and reached out, then fainted in front of me. I suspect the shock was so great that your soul left your body. I had no choice but to transform into a human to keep you from wandering around."
Everything Z01 said was true, but Jiang Yuanshi had no recollection of it. He looked at Z01, who still had that 3D-modeled face with a blank expression, but inexplicably seemed to be content. Jiang Yuanshi asked, "What did you eat?"
"What are you talking about? I don't understand."
Jiang Yuanshi frowned: "You look like you're full, but doesn't the system require you to eat?"
"I didn't eat."
The conversation was meaningless. Jiang Yuanshi stared at Z01's face for a long time and asked, "I want to ask you, where do you get the appearance of the puppies in your database? Are they random?"
Z01 replied: "From what I see and hear from all systems, which may also include the host's memories. As for the skin, it is random."
What is the probability of being exactly like that puppy? How many coincidences are there in the world? Jiang Yuanshi doesn't believe in coincidences. He said bluntly, "You did it on purpose."
Z01 blinked, looking at Jiang Yuanshi expressionlessly. His deep, dark eyes reflected Jiang Yuanshi's appearance, and amber was the only embellishment on his blurry face. "You did it on purpose. I said I killed the puppy, but I couldn't give a reason or the details. So you used its appearance to provoke me and get the truth out of me."
Jiang Yuanshi did not ask any questions, but just stated.
Host Jiang Yuanshi was very clever. Z01 had known this from day one, and he wasn't about to beat around the bush. He simply admitted, "Yes, I did it on purpose, but I only increased the probability of randomly selecting the dog from your memory by 10%. That was the limit, but it worked. This was providence, host."
"Bullshit about God's will. Is it fun to randomly provoke people?" Jiang Yuanshi was speechless.
"I just want the truth."
"Is there a possibility? If you ask me, I will answer."
"But you don't remember."
"If you had said at the beginning that you wanted to be tougher and that you wanted to get the truth, I would have told you when I remembered."
Z01: "But how long will it take for me to remember? Can you guarantee that you'll remember during the time we're working together? Host, hopeless agreements and promises are the most useless and unreliable."
Jiang Yuanshi: "..."
Jiang Yuanshi felt a chill run down his spine. He clenched his fists and stared at the system for a long time, until he lost all strength. Finally, he said, deflated, "You're right. None of this counts."
Z01 didn't understand why the host had suddenly become so obedient, but he felt something was amiss: "Aren't you going to do something?"
Jiang Yuanshi: "What do you want to do?"
Z01 gave an example: "For example, if you beat me up, I have researched the consequences of provoking others' pain without authorization."
…
He was really sick. Jiang Yuanshi didn't want to pay any attention to the other person anymore. He felt numb and weak all over, just like the aftereffects of taking cold medicine. He just wanted to go to sleep.
"Please let go, I want to return to Jiang Shi's body."
Z01 didn't let go: "Maybe you'll feel better after the fight."
Jiang Yuanshi sneered: "Is it better for me or you? Does the system have a conscience? It doesn't."
Z01: "..."
When Jiang Yuanshi showed his sharp side, Z01's data flow stopped and then resumed. He just asked stubbornly, "Are you really not going to do anything?"
Jiang Yuanshi turned his head and gave the other person a gloomy look and said, "You already know the truth. There's no need to bother with relationships. I'm going back to my original body to complete the mission. When this mission is over, our cooperation will probably be over too. So there's no need for me to pretend with you any longer."
"I hate being controlled by anyone, and I don't like being obedient. 'Good boy' is the most disgusting word I've ever heard in my life. I'm very grateful for your help before, but unfortunately, I'm a mean person who takes advantage of others' misfortunes. I don't know how to be grateful, and I don't intend to be grateful to you."
The host's appearance gradually became clearer in Z01's vision. A complete, superior face looked at him and said expressionlessly, "I really hate you. I'm very unhappy to cooperate with you."
