Chapter 141 The Abyss is a Virus

Just like viruses in the real world, carbon-based viruses cannot infect other forms of life.

The plague that was deadly to the Ham people was just a fierce gale from the perspective of Homo sapiens.

"Am I right, Miss Ainol?"

Arelton's eyes fell on a high-pressure gas cylinder in the corner of the room where Ainol was curled up.

She was a spectator at the meeting and did not participate in the discussions.

Arelton didn't wait for her to respond, but continued talking on his own.

"We originally thought the abyss could corrode everything, but that's not the case. It can only corrode the products of this universe within a certain, vague set of rules."

"That's why we feel the abyss is omnipotent, because we live by these rules."

“But there is one thing that isn’t.”

He pressed his hands to his temples.

"Our souls."

"This is something that the scientific community has not been able to confirm so far."

"Although we cannot understand the reasons, we now know how to exploit them. By transferring human consciousness into computers, we can, to a certain extent, avoid the erosion of the abyss. The result is what you see now, Mr. Potter."

Arelton turned off the projection and turned back on the lights. Everyone's attention was once again focused on the deformed brain tissue immersed in the green solution.

There are many tubes inserted into the brain, which are responsible for providing nutrients for the functioning of brain tissue.

"The main body of the brain is composed of artificial ganglia grafted onto existing nerves. The extensions of single nerve bundles grow naturally according to unique coding patterns using a chaotic algorithm."

"The end result is that it can completely absorb a human brain while retaining the original consciousness and cognition."

"Of course, the cost of doing so is very high and the conditions are very harsh."

Arelton downplayed the failures he had experienced.

“Does anyone still doubt this?”

No one spoke.

"We're a team, guys."

Arelton concluded.

"The situation in the galaxy is far more serious than you currently realize. I hope everyone can cooperate closely with each other. I guarantee with my own integrity that once the data is confirmed to be contaminated, it will be shared with everyone involved in the project as soon as possible."

After the meeting, Arelton transferred Potter's brain from the portable life-support device to a large incubator installed in a reinforced room.

His head was connected to the biological cable in the jar, and through the latter it was connected to the central computer of the scientific research base.

Porter's current form is somewhat like a miniature version of Bai Yi, except that the former cannot remotely control a movable body, and the total amount of data it can process is also limited by the relevant structure of the original brain.

"Message from Upper Blackstone."

Arelton waved the chip in his hand. He knew the brain in the jar could see.

The moment he connected to the central server, Porter gained control of all the surveillance cameras in the entire base.

A robotic arm descended from the roof, took the card from Arelton's hand, and inserted it into a card reader nearby.

A moment later, Potter's voice echoed from the walls on all sides.

“Only words.”

"I've tried my best."

Arelton shrugged.

"It's not easy to trick that AI. Until the Sentinel array is completed, all our information transmissions must be simplified."

"Do you really think he's an AI?"

Potter asked.

"The Chaos Domain within his core code is beyond all previous understanding. I feel like I'm not even as complex as he is."

"You are a human being, and you don't have a Chaos Domain."

Arelton seemed to want to ease the depressing atmosphere, but failed.

"Well, at least we made him."

"Let's not waste time on these things."

Potter brought the subject back.

"The subject recently descended into a deeper level than ever before through the dream hammock. Her thoughts resonated with the abyss to some degree."

"Deeper than us?"

"There's no way to measure the depth, but it's definitely breached the surface."

Potter thought for a moment.

"Maybe we should have her back in our custody."

"She's more valuable over there."

Arelton pulled up a chair and sat down.

"Isn't that what you arranged in the first place?"

Potter gave a wry smile.

"I'm starting to doubt whether I'm doing the right thing."

"Old people tend to have wild thoughts."

Arelton interrupted his self-pity.

"Let's talk about what's next. The Abyss Probe is arriving soon, and we'd better make sure the final location hasn't changed."

"The abyssal circulation has been very stable recently."

As Potter spoke, a series of three-dimensional projections began to unfold in the room.

Within the safe stay line, eight points surrounding the star are highlighted.

These points are pre-calculated locations where the Abyss Probe will arrive.

They will first sneak into the subspace from here, and then enter the realm of the abyss from the bottom of the subspace.

These eight points are calculated to be the weakest areas of the abyss barrier, and the energy and time required to enter the abyss from these areas are the shortest.

Just as there is a reality barrier between this universe and the warp, there is also a very obvious boundary layer between the warp and the abyss.

This layer is named the boundary of the abyss. When the probe reaches the boundary, it must rely on sufficiently strong negative energy to cause the distortion of the spatial topological structure and then tear open this curtain.

Only in this way can the creatures of this universe explore the beauty of the abyss.

And these eight points are the calculated optimal solutions for entering the abyss.

They are within the safe retention line.

The radiation produced by abyssal stars can bring the abyssal boundary closer to the local universe. In theory, the stronger the radiation, the less energy the probe needs to consume to break through the boundary.

But the act of diving deep itself will cause disturbances in the surrounding abyss. In the worst case scenario, this may even lead to instability of the abyss contained within the entire star.

So how to strike a balance between the two is a very delicate issue.

It is for this reason that the positions of these eight points are not fixed, but are fluctuating in real time.

Fortunately, the star being transformed was a red dwarf, and its combustion was very stable. Especially after being infected by the abyss and degenerated, it could almost be described as a pool of stagnant water.

Under its stable and continuous radiation, these established depth points will only fluctuate within a small range.
