Chapter 7 A Promise to Move

When Bai Yi's handsome face appeared on the screen, Liu Shasha was obviously stunned.

She had made various assumptions about Bai Yi's appearance, from the cold machine room to the wriggling tentacles, but she had never imagined that he would be in this form.

Bai Yi was very satisfied with her reaction, but although he was very happy in his heart, he did not show it on the surface.

Liu Shasha coughed lightly and forced herself to look away. Her eyes fell on the teleprompter next to the camera.

"Hello, let me formally introduce myself. I am Liu Shasha, the Secretary-General of the United Nations from Luofan Star. The United Nations has voted to have me speak on behalf of all countries in the world."

"Hello, Miss Liu." Bai Yi nodded on the screen. "I believe you have read the information I provided before the communication officially begins."

The information he was talking about was naturally the link he had initially sent to MASA via message, which contained records he had collected from the Luofan Star database about the contact between the ancients and the Galactic Alliance.

"Yes, we have already sent someone to read the relevant content in detail." Liu Shasha nodded, "But regarding the content of these records..."

"It's incredible. Do you think it's just a folk legend?" Bai Yi said.

Liu Shasha nodded. "Yes. According to records, the Galactic Alliance made contact with our ancestors about six hundred years ago, but we can't find any relevant records in official history."

"That's normal." Bai Yi showed an expression of no surprise. "Early contacts were mainly for the dissemination of technology and advanced ideas. We have only had contact with a very small number of individuals on your planet."

"For example... the inventor of the steam engine."

"You mean Dr. Bocher? He improved the steam engine under the guidance of the Galactic Alliance?"

"That's not the case." Bai Yi shook his head. "According to the records in the database, before the Galactic Alliance contacted Bocher, he was only one step away from developing an improved steam engine. What we did was actually give him the schematics of the internal combustion engine."

"How else do you think he managed to lead you all to leap directly from the steam age to the internal combustion engine age without any technological accumulation?"

"He's a very intelligent man, but genius doesn't explain everything. Given your planet's abundant resources, it would have taken at least another hundred years after the steam engine appeared before the internal combustion engine became widely adopted."

There was no way around it. There were too few oil fields on the continental shelf, and the Luofan people hadn't found a single one. Could it really be that they relied on growing crops and fermenting wine to power their engines?

Bai Yi’s words left Liu Shasha speechless.

She could never have imagined that the progress of her civilization had been controlled by the outside world for hundreds of years.

"Okay, let's stop with the historical questions. After all, I'm not a historian." Bai Yi clapped his hands. "I came here to keep my promise."

"Promise?" Liu Shasha was stunned. "What do you mean?"

"Isn't it written in the information?" Bai Yi was a little surprised by the other party's reaction. Although he had not read the information carefully, it was impossible that such an important matter was not mentioned at all.

"It's just... helping you move. It's not in the link I gave you?"

After hearing his words, the girl across the screen blinked blankly. She looked at the row of middle-aged people sitting outside the transparent glass. They all had headsets on their ears, and the conversation between the two men was transmitted to them in real time. They were also confused by Bai Yi's promise of moving.

Their men studied all the information Bai Yi had given them over and over again, even compiling some folk stories that weren't in the original link. However, none of the content mentioned anything about promises or relocation.

"No, not even in folklore does it mention moving."

"These guys are so unreliable," Bai Yi thought angrily. "I've heard that the guys at the Immigration Bureau are just collecting subsidies and not doing their jobs. Now I see that they're not just not doing their jobs, they're not doing their jobs at all."

Bai Yi cleared his throat and said, "Anyway, you don't need to worry too much about this matter. There will be a special immigration bureau to help you."

"You will be moved to a safer area within the galaxy, where you will be governed and protected alongside other lesser civilizations. This is a rare opportunity, so feel free to ask any questions you have.

A white-haired old man raised his hand. His facial features had some Western European characteristics. He was wearing a loose white court dress with golden patterns on the collar.

"Please ask, what are we facing?"

"What do you face?" Bai Yi thought for a moment. "If you agree to migrate, you will be placed in one of the six civilization refuge zones and placed under unified jurisdiction. Don't worry, the Galactic Alliance has ample experience in uniting civilizations. We will provide you with more advanced technology and the necessary resources, enough for you to maintain your civilization."

"As for, if you mean staying..."

"This kind of situation has happened before." Bai Yi looked at the old man on the screen. "I'm not very clear about the specific situation, but one thing I can be sure of is that they all had a bad ending."

"The Alliance Demolition Office should be quite experienced in this area. In fact, they should have been here fifteen years ago. However, 3,000 light-years away, an indigenous civilization that has colonized several planets has become a stubborn holdout, attracting all the nearby demolition teams."

"But there's one thing I want to emphasize." Bai Yi's expression suddenly grew serious. "Whether you're willing to leave or not is your business. Even the Alliance Demolition Office can't really capture billions of people one by one."

"However... no matter what the outcome, the construction plan will proceed as scheduled, and the entire Luofan Star will be dismantled and rebuilt."

Although Bai Yi thought he was just making sense, in the eyes of the other party, his last paragraph was clearly more threatening than negotiating.

For a moment, the channel was silent and the atmosphere seemed a little depressing.

"Let's stop here for now. I will prepare a detailed introduction from the alliance and send it to you later. I hope you can make the right choice." Bai Yi sighed. He knew that the civilization on the other side needed time to digest and accept this information, but judging from the current progress, there was indeed not much time left for them.

On the scale of civilization, one or two years is just a blink of an eye, and many things cannot be done perfectly.

When the day of moving really comes, I'm afraid many people will stay on this doomed planet for various reasons.
