Chapter 96 Shaxi Ancient Town, Yunnan

Lin Xiao's mother runs a guesthouse in Shaxi Ancient Town, Yunnan. It is a quiet and ancient town that has seen a gradual increase in tourists in recent years, but compared to the bustling Lijiang Ancient Town, it is still a very peaceful and tranquil place.

When Lin's mother learned that her daughter was coming, she had been waiting at Sanyi Airport in Lijiang for a long time. It only takes a little over an hour to drive from the airport to Shaxi Ancient Town.

Lin Xiao told her mother that she was bringing her boyfriend. Lin's mother initially thought it was Feng Jinglin, because Lin Xiao was already 15 years old when she divorced Lin Haitao. The two children grew up together and could be considered childhood sweethearts.

At that time, Lin's mother could already see that Feng Jinglin, who was in high school, had developed a teenage crush on her daughter, and it was no longer the silly, playful, and fighting feeling they had when they were little.

Although she later left the Lin family, she learned about the development between the two from her daughter over the years, and knew that Feng Jinglin had solemnly confessed his love to Lin Xiao when she was 18 years old.

However, what Lin Xiao didn't tell her mother was that not long after she graduated from university, Feng Jinglin unilaterally announced their breakup and quickly got together with her younger sister.

She hadn't mentioned this to her mother for two reasons: first, she was afraid her mother would be saddened by her actions; and second, it involved her younger sister, Lin Xue.

Not long after Lin's mother left, Lin Haitao brought another woman and her child into the Lin family. At that time, Lin Xue was already 12 years old, which proves that Lin Haitao had actually been having an affair for many years and had a daughter out of wedlock at a very young age.

Lin Xiao's mother knew about this, but Lin Xiao, as her daughter, couldn't bear to mention it in front of her mother. She felt that it would be like a knife stabbing into her mother's heart.

Because in her memory, her parents had a very good relationship during her childhood and adolescence, but she never expected that her father had started another family outside when she was only three years old, just five or six years after he married Lin's mother.

Lin Xiao was about to bring Wei Changfeng along, so she had no choice but to tell her mother that she and Feng Jinglin had already broken up.

When Lin's mother first heard this, she was shocked. She couldn't imagine how her quiet and introverted daughter had gotten through this emotional pain. After all, the two of them were not only each other's first love, but also like family members who had been together for more than ten years.

What angered Lin's mother even more was that she heard from her daughter that Feng Jinglin broke up with her because he had fallen in love with her younger sister. Even when she divorced Lin Haitao, Lin's mother maintained her dignity to the end, without showing any particular anger or making a scene.

This time, she truly hated Lin Haitao and his current wife and daughter. That woman not only destroyed her family, leaving Lin Xiao to live as a dependent at a young age, but that wasn't enough for her; she stole her husband, and now her daughter was going to steal her daughter's boyfriend!

Lin Xiao heard her mother's voice trembling on the phone and quickly comforted her, "Mom, don't be angry about the past, it's not worth it."

"That bastard Feng Jinglin! I've watched him grow up since he was a kid, and I always thought he was a good kid. I never imagined he was even worse than your father!"

Even Lin's mother, who was always well-mannered and never spoke ill of others, couldn't help but scold the two unfaithful men on the phone.

"Mom, please don't be angry. I don't care anymore. I've met a better boy who treats me very well, so Feng Jinglin is just someone I should have missed in my life."

Hearing her daughter's words, Lin's mother's anger subsided slightly, and she asked her, "How do you know this boy? What does he do for a living? Is he reliable?"

Lin Xiao was overwhelmed by the barrage of questions and could only laugh and say, "Mom, how come you've suddenly turned into a 'ten thousand whys'?"

He's a really good guy, handsome, gentle, and very considerate towards me. He's just a little vain sometimes! Oh, and he loves to act cute! Even though he's older than me, he acts like a little kid and clings to me.

Hearing her daughter describe her new boyfriend in such a gentle and sweet tone, Lin's mother finally felt a little relieved, but still couldn't help but remind her, "Being handsome can't put food on the table. Character is the most important thing, Xiaoxiao, you have to remember that. Handsome guys are sometimes prone to being unfaithful!"

"Okay, I got it! Mom, you can take a look at his face later. If you think he's a womanizer, I'll break up with him, okay? Hehe."

Rarely hearing her daughter's lively voice, Lin's mother cheered up, "Okay, Mom will take a good look at him then. If he's unreliable, I'll chase him away! Just don't feel bad about it!"

"No way, I'll do whatever Mom says!"

Lin's mother suddenly sighed and said to her daughter, "But I'm not good at judging people. If I were, I wouldn't have chosen your father in the first place."

Lin Xiao knew that his mother was thinking about those painful old memories, so he quickly said, "Mom, don't think about the past. Didn't you say that Uncle is treating you very well now? Just consider my father as someone who was passing through your life."

After hearing her daughter's words of comfort, Lin's mother said softly, "Xiaoxiao is right. This passerby gave me the best daughter in the world. I shouldn't complain anymore. Your uncle heard that you were bringing your boyfriend, so he specially closed the guesthouse and will not accept other tourists next week, because he was afraid that too many people would make you uncomfortable."

Lin Xiao wasn't familiar with that uncle; she had only met him when he visited her mother every year. She was deeply moved that he would close his guesthouse so that she could stay more comfortably.

She had actually considered that it would be somewhat inconvenient for her to bring Wei Changfeng to stay at the guesthouse, given the constant flow of people. However, considering that it was an inn run by her uncle and mother, she didn't want to hinder their income, so she didn't dare to make any requests.
