When Wang Wei got home, he overheard his parents discussing Lin Xiao. His mother told Wang Handong that Lin Xiao had a boyfriend who was studying for a master's degree in China, and asked him if he knew the details.
Wang Handong and Lin Haitao were just business friends. They had cooperated several times through transactions, and Lin Haitao had hosted him twice when he visited China, which is how he met Lin Xiao.
But he didn't know any more details about the Lin family's affairs, and Lin Haitao wouldn't just tell outsiders.
Upon hearing his parents' conversation, Wang Wei immediately asked his mother, "What exactly did Lin Xiao say?"
"Oh dear, he didn't say much in detail, that's why I was so eager to ask your dad."
She mentioned that her boyfriend was pursuing a master's degree in China. I asked why they didn't study abroad together. She said his major was relatively niche, and that it was actually better to study in China than abroad, but she didn't elaborate.
"Oh, right, she also has a younger sister. Hey, Lao Wang, you mentioned this to me before, do you remember?"
I was thinking that if Lin Xiao had a boyfriend, it would be nice to introduce her sister to you. Judging from her appearance, her sister must be pretty too.
Lin Xiao then said her younger sister had many suitors and got engaged right after graduating from university! She must be even prettier than her older sister!
Wang Handong sighed and said to his wife, "What's the use of being pretty? One is engaged and the other has a boyfriend. It seems that neither of the two girls from the Lin family has a chance, right?"
Wang Wei's mother pursed her lips and said, "Not necessarily. Isn't Lin Xiao going to stay in France for at least two or three years? Son, you should try your best to win her over during this time."
Her boyfriend lives thousands of miles away; he can't even take care of her if she gets a headache or fever. Girls are easy to win over if you really want to; I got mine because of your dad's relentless pursuit.
When Wang Handong heard his wife say that, he could only chuckle foolishly. Although he was mercenary, he had always been good to his wife and family.
However, Wang Wei was a bit discouraged, muttering, "Mom, some master's programs can be completed in just one year. I might not even have time to work hard before Lin Xiao is going back to China."
"Tsk, why are you giving up before you've even started?" Mrs. Wang said, a little dissatisfied. "The more time is pressing, the more you need to make the most of every second."
Wang Handong seemed to agree somewhat with his son's statement, unlike his wife who was more optimistic.
He said, "Lin Xiao is no ordinary girl. The circle of friends she makes in China must be full of the rich and powerful. Not only are they rich, but they must also have some exceptionally good-looking boys."
For some reason, as Wang Handong said this, Wei Changfeng's exceptionally delicate face appeared in his mind's eye.
Hearing her husband's words, Wang's mother became even more dissatisfied: "What's wrong with my son? Is he poor or not good-looking? He's such a handsome young man! Tell me, in the Chinese community in Paris, how many can compare to him?"
Although Wang Handong also loved his son, it wasn't to the extent that his wife's maternal love blinded her. He thought to himself: "Once you see a truly handsome and extraordinary child, you'll realize how ordinary our son is."
However, he only dared to say these words in his heart; he would never dare to say them out loud. Firstly, it would damage his son's already limited self-confidence; secondly, and most importantly, his wife would never let it go because of this.
On his way back, Lin Xiao opened his phone and saw several unread WeChat messages.
Several of the messages were from Wei Changfeng asking her, "Have you returned the car yet?" and "Are you home now?" Later, he inexplicably transferred some money to her as a token of his gratitude.
Interspersed among this pile of information was a message from Zhao Hui telling her that the French brand had already arranged everything and that she didn't need to worry.
Lin Xiao thought for a moment, then replied to Zhao Hui: That's great! If you need any help later, feel free to contact me anytime. Wishing everyone a safe and smooth return home soon!
Then she replied to Wei Changfeng: "I've returned the car safely and will be home soon. Don't worry. Wishing you a safe return home and all the best!"
After typing and sending out this extremely formal message, Lin Xiao felt a little awkward, but apart from that, she didn't know what else to say to Wei Changfeng.
Wei Changfeng was sitting in his hotel room, staring blankly at his injured leg, which was wrapped in layers of bandages. He picked up his phone as soon as it rang.
After reading Lin Xiao's polite and official reply, he couldn't hide his disappointment: No, we've only just returned to Paris, and you're already wishing us a safe return home? And it's not even Chinese New Year yet, and you're already saying "May all your wishes come true" in advance?
Xiao Hao happened to be next to him, so he handed his phone to Xiao Hao to show him, muttering discontentedly, "Look at Lin Xiao, he acts like he doesn't recognize us anymore just because he's back in Paris! What is he even saying?"
Xiao Hao looked down at his phone, then looked up at Wei Changfeng and said, "Brother, didn't they say when they dropped us off at the hotel that we were going to return the car next?"
She was only going to borrow the car for two days, but it ended up being borrowed for several more days. She must have felt really bad about it, which is why she rushed back to Paris to return it as soon as possible.
"But look at how many WeChat messages you've sent them in the past half day! One minute you're asking if they've returned the car, the next if they've gotten home, and then you're asking if the owner is upset. I'd get annoyed too!"
Wei Changfeng frowned, took back his phone, and looked at it several times before suddenly realizing what it meant:
"Ah, it's because I sent her too many messages. She was busy returning the car and was a bit annoyed, so she deliberately replied so coldly. Xiao Hao, is that what you mean?"
Xiao Hao didn't answer, but rolled his eyes at his brother and said, "And this, why did you transfer money to them?"
