Chapter 17 I've Seen You Before

She tried hard to make out who was singing on stage; they did look somewhat familiar, but she couldn't quite place them.

If it were a well-known, famous singer, this price would be understandable. But clearly, it's not; this should be a newcomer who hasn't been famous for very long.

Lin Xiao couldn't help but ask the woman in red, "Auntie, who is this? She looks familiar. Is she a rising star from some singing competition?"

Aunt Hong looked at her, smiled, and said, "Your child seems very well-behaved. You must be too busy studying all the time. Unlike my child, who knows everyone on TV!"

The fourteen or fifteen-year-old girl who had spoken earlier chimed in, "Sister, this isn't a singer, he's an actor, Wei Changfeng. He just starred in a hugely popular drama, haven't you seen it?"

"An actor? Then why are you singing?"

At this moment, the younger sister, Lin Xue, laughed, her laughter high-pitched and undisguisedly mocking: "Sister, Auntie said you're a bookworm, and you really are! If you don't let the actors perform singing, are you going to make them act out an entire episode on stage?"

Lin Xiao was a little angry at his sister for no reason, but he didn't dare to show it, so he just kept quiet.

Aunt Hong, who had seen everything, smoothed things over by saying, "This young man is a good actor, and I didn't expect him to sing so well too. These celebrities are really quite talented."

The little girl next to Lin Xiao exclaimed, "Celebrities make money so easily! Singing one song is equivalent to how many pairs of shoes my dad sells! No way, I want to be a celebrity when I grow up. Selling shoes is too hard!"

Hearing this, Lin Xiao roughly guessed that she must be the daughter of Xu Caifa, the shoe tycoon of the province. Mr. Xu came from humble beginnings and was now nearly sixty years old; this must be his youngest daughter.

Aunt Hong chuckled and patted the little girl's head, saying, "Haha, silly girl, do you think your dad would need you to sell shoes? Your dad has bought so many shops, you can just sit at home and collect rent from now on."

"I'm not going to be a landlady, I'm going to be a star, dressed up every day, and earn a million for every song I sing! Aunt Hong, you don't know that I sing pretty well too."

The adults at the table all looked at her and laughed. The little girl continued, "It's so great to make money like this! It's easy, fun, and you'll look beautiful and respectable! And what's more, you can see such handsome brothers on stage every day, and maybe you can even film an idol drama together!"

The laughter grew louder, attracting Wei Changfeng, who was singing on stage, to glance in their direction. However, with so many guests and tables set up below, he couldn't see anything.

Aunt Hong shook her shoulder and said, "Oh, Dou Dou, my good girl, you should just focus on your studies. Why become a star? Do you think stars make money easily?"

"How can it not be profitable? Aunt Hong, didn't you just say that you paid him 2 million for just two songs, which is equivalent to 1 million for each song?" The young girl tilted her head back, a little unconvinced.

"My dad sells shoes. A pair of high-end brand leather shoes has a net profit of 280 to 380 yuan, while a pair of sneakers is less than 100 yuan. And that's for the high-end line. The profit margins for the other brands are even lower, some are only a few dozen yuan. Can you calculate how many shoes he would have to sell to make that money back for just one song?"

Her words surprised the others at the table. They hadn't expected that this little girl, who should still be in junior high school, would know so much about her father's business, and was clear about the profit margins of products targeting different customer groups and different market positions. She seemed to have quite a business mind at such a young age.
