Chapter 93 Termination of Cooperation

On the third day after Wei Changfeng returned to China, his agency received a call from the legal department of Xiangyu Group, who wanted to discuss the endorsement contract signed between Ms. Yang Xishu and an artist under their company.

Zhao Hui's intuition told him that trouble was brewing, because Ms. Yang was not satisfied with the several proposals put forward by the 4A advertising company in the early stages and sent them back for redoing. Moreover, Wei Changfeng had been busy with the filming of the movie until July, so the cooperation had not actually started.

Zhao Hui decided to meet with the other party's legal department first to find out the situation before informing Wei Changfeng.

As expected, the other party's legal representative stated bluntly that Ms. Yang's company's business plan was unclear, and the head office had decided to stop all business support for her. Therefore, there was no need to continue with subsequent advertising endorsements and other activities, and they hoped that both parties could negotiate amicably to terminate the contract.

After returning to the company and reporting the matter to his boss Wu Fei, Zhao Hui called Wei Changfeng to inform him.

To Zhao Hui's surprise, Wei Changfeng was not at all surprised by his words, as if he had expected it.

"Did Miss Yang already tell you this beforehand? Then why did their legal department invite me over for a formal meeting today?" Zhao Hui asked him.

Wei Changfeng said, "The young lady from the Yang family didn't say anything to me, which is why I knew that this cooperation might fall through."

Zhao Hui asked, puzzled, "Why?"

Wei Changfeng gave a wry smile on the other end of the phone: "It's because Miss Yang hasn't contacted me lately. Brother, you don't know, ever since we signed the contract last time, she's been calling me every other day. I'm so busy filming in Hengdian, but I still have to find time to reply to her. She even said she wanted to come visit the set, but I had to persuade her to give up."

Zhao Hui was taken aback. Wei Changfeng had never mentioned these things to him before, but upon careful consideration of Yang Xishu's behavior that day, these actions were indeed something she was capable of doing.

Wei Changfeng told Zhao Hui that Yang Xishu had contacted him frequently and sent him various proposals from the advertising company so he could see which one was better.

Later, he claimed that he was too busy on set, filming day and night, and it was really inconvenient to contact her frequently. He also said that the advertising plans were decided by the client, and he was only responsible for filming. He also firmly refused her request to visit the set.

As a young lady from a wealthy family, Yang Xishu was also concerned about her image. Seeing Wei Changfeng's coldness, she gradually reduced her phone calls, but she would still send him WeChat messages from time to time, and Wei Changfeng would try his best to respond politely.

However, Yang Xishu stopped contacting him in mid-July. He was in France at the time and was more than happy about it, otherwise he would have had to explain to his girlfriend Lin Xiao why a girl was sending him WeChat messages so often.

After discussing it, Zhao Hui and Wei Changfeng decided to terminate the contract. Actually, they were the innocent party, and according to the contract, a portion of their deposit should be deducted and not refunded. However, both felt that offending Yang Xishu's Xiangyu Group for such a small amount of money might not be worthwhile, and they considered it a mistake.

Zhao Hui felt a little regretful. In fact, he had sensed from the beginning that it was unreliable for this unknown new company to offer such a huge amount of advertising fees. But people are greedy, and he would get a lot of commission from this deal, so he still tried his best to get the contract signed.

However, compared to typical endorsement contracts that are often signed for two years, this contract was only for one year, which was quite prudent. It's just that things still ended up like this.

Seeing that he was not in a good mood, Wei Changfeng comforted him, saying, "Brother Hui, it's better not to cooperate in this situation. Who knows what trouble might arise if we cooperate. You've seen how hard I've worked to get to where I am today. I can't let a little money plant a landmine for myself."

Wei Changfeng has one advantage over many celebrities: even at the height of his fame, he remains clear-headed. Maintaining rationality is easier said than done; when surrounded by flowers and applause, greeted with fervent welcomes and showered with praise, it's difficult not to lose one's senses.

Zhao Hui personally mentored him for many years and knew that his achievements today were hard-won, so he has always been very careful in his private life.

There are many handsome men and beautiful women in the industry, and Wei Changfeng is also very good-looking. It would be too easy for him to do something fancy, but he has always been very restrained.

Even in business activities where there are unavoidable interactions, they are very careful to maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid giving others anything to criticize, which means they don't create problems for themselves.

When he first met Yang Xishu, although she was a genuine heiress and exceptionally beautiful among the rich second generation, the intense look she gave Wei Changfeng was not the kind of look a businessman should have when looking at a celebrity endorsing his product—a look that is both appreciative and discerning.

Wei Changfeng has many female admirers; he can tell what they're thinking just by glancing at them.

So when he saw Yang Xishu at the dinner party, his intuition was that she was not a real or professional businesswoman. How could she possibly succeed in starting a business with this kind of celebrity-worshipping mentality?

Starting a business is no easy feat; it's often described as a gamble with a high chance of failure. People tend to see the glamour and glory of the successful, but not the blood, sweat, and tears of those who fail.

So even though she has the Xiangyu Group behind her, it only means that her father is wealthy and that she has a higher starting point than most people, but it does not mean that she will definitely succeed.

Promoting such a brand is likely a one-off deal, because the brand might cease to exist before the endorsement period ends, which would inevitably raise questions about the commercial value of the spokesperson.

Even Jackie Chan, a big name in Hong Kong, is often ridiculed and mocked online after endorsing several failed products, let alone a newcomer like him.

Although Wei Changfeng sometimes seems to only know how to be narcissistic and arrogant, he is actually more mature than many of his peers.
