Chapter 31 Rebirth After Calamity

Everyone waited anxiously outside, but thankfully the surgery was over in less than two hours.

The attending physician came out and told everyone that the process had gone very smoothly and everything was fine. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Wei Changfeng was still under anesthesia, and although his face was pale and peaceful when he was wheeled out.

In no time, he woke up from the anesthesia. As soon as he opened his eyes and saw the people in front of him, his nose tingled and his eyes reddened, like a wronged child finally seeing his parents.

"Hehe, alright, how old are you and still crying? The doctor said the surgery went smoothly and there's nothing to worry about. You won't be lame," Zhao Hui quickly comforted him when he saw his expression.

"I'm sorry to have worried everyone." It turned out that his red eyes weren't for himself, but rather apologetic for causing everyone so much anxiety.

The perpetrator left their contact information at the hospital and, upon learning that Wei Changfeng had undergone surgery, came to visit him, bringing flowers as a token of their sympathy. They stated that they had already contacted their insurance company, and all medical expenses would be automatically reimbursed.

Xiao Hao always carried money with him, and Lin Xiao also prepared a lot of cash for backup. Unexpectedly, the surgery was performed without spending a penny.

Seeing that the perpetrator seemed sincere, Zhao Hui didn't want to blame him too much. With Lin Xiao's help in translating, he signed the medical malpractice insurance claim form on Wei Changfeng's behalf.

The surgery appeared to be successful, and Wei Changfeng woke up in good condition, finally putting everyone's minds at ease. Xiao Hao stayed with him at the hospital at noon, while the others went out for lunch and returned quickly.

During this time, Zhao Hui reported Wei Changfeng's situation to the French brand representatives, who were reassured after hearing the news.

After all, this is their newly signed Asian brand ambassador, so they are essentially in the same boat, sharing common interests. Wei Changfeng's speedy recovery is also a good thing for the brand.

Despite Zhao Hui's objections, the French side insisted on sending someone to the hospital in Albertville to visit him in person.

When his attempts to stop them failed, Zhao Hui had no choice but to agree. He also instructed Wei Changfeng to tidy himself up a bit before the French personnel arrived, as his image was of utmost importance in front of the clients.

Lin Xiao, listening from the side, was speechless. It seemed being an artist wasn't so easy after all. They were representatives of fashion, but also pawns in the fashion world.

Xiao Hao ate some of the pizza that Lin Xiao had brought back for him, but Wei Changfeng couldn't eat anything because he was still on a fasting period for eight hours after the surgery.

He only felt dizzy from hunger and his leg was still aching after the surgery, so he couldn't care less about the image issue that Zhao Hui mentioned.

The nurse came and gave him an IV drip, probably glucose or some other nutrient solution, and he felt he regained some strength.

"Let's leave it at that, Hui-ge. My brother looks pretty good even without makeup. He's gotten so polished that he doesn't look like he just had surgery at all. People might even think we're faking it."

Xiao Hao just wanted Wei Changfeng to rest well and not be bothered or disturbed by anyone.

Lin Xiao chimed in, "As far as I know, this brand has always promoted an image that conveys a sense of detachment and vulnerability. Perhaps Changfeng's current haggard appearance doesn't clash with their preferred image, so there's no need for excessive embellishment."

“Yes, yes, Lin Xiao really knows how to describe things. No wonder he’s a top student studying abroad. That’s exactly what I meant,” Xiao Hao quickly said.

Zhao Hui looked at Wei Changfeng on the hospital bed. His features were clear and bright, but although he lacked a bit of color, he had a sickly pale look that Europeans liked, like a vampire.

So he told Xiaomin to comb his hair. At least he should show basic courtesy to the guest. He couldn't be unkempt. Everything else was fine.

Xiaomin always carries a small mirror, a powder compact, and a folding comb in her pocket—items she's had since she started learning makeup. Hearing Zhao Hui say this, she took out the comb and began to comb Wei Changfeng's hair.

As expected of a professional, without the aid of any other hair styling tools, Wei Changfeng's originally messy hair was transformed into something quite presentable with just a few quick strokes.

He looked in the mirror Xiaomin handed him and was quite satisfied. He gently touched his hair and said narcissistically, "Still handsome! It's a good thing the surgery didn't shave my head!" This made everyone present laugh.

"Haha, so that means you cut off the bottom?" Xiao Hao teased his brother.

"Zhang Ruihao!" Wei Changfeng rarely called him by his full name, so Lin Xiao only then realized Xiaohao's real name.

Xiao Hao wasn't afraid at all. He then said with a grin, "Brother, have you ever had surgery before? How did you know you needed to shave your skin? I found out by searching on Baidu."

Wei Changfeng told him about the tragic experiences of his high school classmate.

That classmate was seriously injured in an accident, had surgery, and rested at home for more than half a year. When he came back, he told them that he almost didn't want to live anymore.

It wasn't the six months of surgery and rehabilitation that were so difficult; what was truly agonizing was the scene before the surgery.

The doctor asked the nurses to shave all his body hair before the surgery. He was already very embarrassed to be lying naked on the hospital bed. But after the hair was shaved, the doctor called in a group of intern nurses to give him a tour and explain things to him.

The nurses looked to be only eighteen or nineteen years old, and the boy was even younger, only seventeen. When he saw a group of young women come in to admire his naked body, from that moment on he felt he should move to another planet.

When he returned to school and told Wei Changfeng and other classmates about this unbearable past, no one who heard it showed him any sympathy. Instead, they all burst into laughter. Even at the graduation banquet after the college entrance examination, some people still brought it up.

This is why, when Wei Changfeng heard that surgery was required, the first thing that came to mind was the dreaded issue of shaving the skin.
