Blinded by jealousy, Yang Xile gritted his teeth and said to Lin Xiao, "Aren't you shameless, Lin Xiao? Aren't you shameless?!"
This is the second man today to insult and curse her with the most vicious words. Ironically, both of these men believe that they are the ones who love her the most.
Lin Xiao could no longer contain himself and shouted at Yang Xile, "Get out!"
The word "Get out!" took almost all her strength, because as soon as she shouted it, she collapsed onto the sofa.
Yang Xile was startled and quickly stepped forward to help her up. Lin Xiao's face was covered in tears, and she no longer had the strength to shout. She could only weakly say, "Yang Xile, please, get out of my house, even if it's just for today. Please."
Yang Xile suddenly realized that Lin Xiao could not be subjected to any more stimulation today; she was on the verge of a complete breakdown.
So she laid her down on the sofa, went to the bedroom to get a blanket and covered her with it, then said softly, "Sister, I'm sorry about today. I was so jealous of Wei Changfeng that I was going crazy, even when I saw him at his most pathetic. You should rest well today. If you feel better tomorrow and want to go out, just call me and I'll come pick you up, okay?"
Yang Xile finally returned to normal, becoming the kind younger brother Lin Xiao used to know. But Lin Xiao no longer had the strength to distinguish which Yang Xile was real and which was fake. If he said it was okay, then it was okay. Anything was fine, anything was acceptable.
Before leaving and closing the door, Yang Xile said to Lin Xiao, "If the pizza gets cold and hard, it won't taste good. I'll order you some soft and easy-to-digest food. We can also deliver Chinese porridge, noodles, soups, and the like. Just let me know what you want to eat."
Lin Xiao didn't respond. Yang Xile glanced at her on the sofa again, then closed the door and left.
Lin Xiao didn't know how long he had been lying on the sofa, but he felt his strength gradually returning, so he got up and walked to the window to look outside.
The rain was still falling outside, but much lighter than before. She found an umbrella, slipped on her shoes, and went out.
As she walked out of the apartment building, she turned and went to the corner where there were two large trash cans.
She tossed the umbrella aside and began frantically rummaging through the trash can. The roses, though battered and bruised by the rain, were still neatly wrapped and easily visible. Lin Xiao finally smiled when she found the bouquet, but... but the ring was gone!
She stood blankly in front of the trash can for a while, and some passersby with umbrellas were startled by her strange behavior, thinking she was a mentally ill person or a homeless person who made a living by scavenging.
"Madam, madam, here you go." A kind passerby slipped her a few bills and then gestured towards the coffee shop across the street, indicating that she should go there to buy something to eat or drink, and not look for food in the trash can.
Lin Xiao realized he had been misunderstood, but he didn't want to explain further. He forced a smile at the other person, said thank you in French, and continued rummaging through the trash can until he was half-submerged in it.
Finally, she pinched a small thing between her thumb and forefinger, then held it up, hoping to use the rain pouring down from the sky to wash it clean.
As if the heavens understood her request, the rain suddenly intensified, pelting her hair, face, body, and the ring on her hand.
The filthy ring was quickly washed clean and sparkling, a diamond gleaming in the rain. It's not small at all; unlike what Wei Changfeng said earlier, that he'd just bought a small one and then get her a bigger one later. This one is big enough and good enough!
Lin Xiao treasured the ring and put it on her ring finger. It seemed the ring was a bit too big; it might get lost at any moment, which wouldn't do. She took the ring off, picked up the umbrella from the ground, and, ignoring that she was already soaked, happily turned and went back to her apartment.
Just then, a person emerged from the coffee shop across the street, silently watching the direction Lin Xiao had already disappeared into. He then walked to the trash can, threw his umbrella in, and let the heavy rain fall on his face and body.
His face was quickly soaked with tears, and for a moment it was impossible to tell whether they were rain or tears.
Yang Xile didn't go far after leaving Lin Xiao's house. He was worried that she might feel unwell after the ordeal, and he also wanted to be able to buy her a hot coffee and a croissant as soon as possible if she felt hungry and contacted him.
So after he went out, he walked to the coffee shop across the street and sat down. He sat there until he saw Lin Xiao come downstairs and walk to the trash can to start rummaging through it.
Yang Xile looked up at the sky, then down at the road. The rain was heavier than ever before, and he was soon soaked to the bone, just like Wei Changfeng had been earlier.
But he neither sought shelter from the rain, nor called his bodyguards and assistants to pick him up, nor did he take any transportation. He just kept walking and walking back to his home in the heavy rain.
In the days that followed, Yang Xile did not force Lin Xiao to do anything she was unwilling to do. The two met frequently like friends. Sometimes Yang Xile would ask Lin Xiao to accompany him to watch movies or attend concerts, and Lin Xiao would not refuse. If he drove Lin Xiao out for fun, Lin Xiao would be in a better mood.
Sometimes Yang Xile couldn't resist and would make some intimate gestures towards Lin Xiao, such as touching her hair or cheek, and she wouldn't resist. Only when Yang Xile tried to kiss her on the lips would she instinctively dodge, and he would stop forcing it.
He could tell that Lin Xiao didn't like even gestures like touching his hair or cheek, but he was just trying his best to endure it because his father needed his help.
