Yang Xile's story took such a sudden turn that the uncle next to him almost couldn't hold back his laughter. He used all his strength to suppress the corners of his mouth that wanted to turn up, and his expression remained as serious and earnest as ever.
Hearing this, Yang Kai snorted coldly. This kid had probably finally told the truth. The last sentence of the story might be the most truthful version: his son had fallen in love with someone else's daughter, so he was determined to save her father.
"Tell me about the girl first? What stage are you two at?"
Yang Xile looked at his father, his mind racing. What was the best way to get the money? Should he say that the two of them had fallen in love at first sight? Or should he simply say that Yang Kai was going to be a grandfather? Would the old man be willing to bleed for his future grandson?
But saying that is too risky, and Lin Xiao wouldn't cooperate. Where would they find the child then? What if they said it was accidentally lost? If the old man wanted to investigate, he could find out everything. Besides, it would be too bad for Lin Xiao's reputation; her father would probably look down on her because of it.
Seeing his son's big, round eyes darting around, Yang Kai knew his son best and immediately realized that Yang Xile was looking for lines that would be easiest for him to accept and that would get him to spend money.
He slammed his hand on the table, startling Yang Xile.
"Still making things up! Still making things up, huh?" Yang Kai pretended to scold his son loudly.
Startled by his father, Yang Xile blurted out the truth: "Anyway, anyway, if anything happens to Lin Xiao, Lin Haitao's daughter, I don't want to live anymore. If I can save her father, she'll definitely look at me differently!"
Yang Kai was so angry when he heard this that he almost twisted his nose out. Not only did he have an incredibly devoted son, but judging from what he said, the girl might not even be that interested in him. On the contrary, he seemed to be the one relentlessly pursuing her!
"Good, good, you truly are the best son I've ever raised!"
Seeing the father and son at an impasse, Uncle Zhai quickly stepped in to smooth things over, saying to Yang Kai, "Chairman Yang, what do you think? I think we should first have Attorney Wang take a look at the situation of Lin Haitao's case. I heard it's still in the criminal investigation stage, and many things haven't been clarified yet. Maybe we won't need hundreds of millions in compensation to cover the hole."
Yang Kai was so preoccupied with arguing with his son that he hadn't even considered Wang Lu's matter. But when Uncle Zhai mentioned it, he suddenly realized that what Uncle Zhai said made a lot of sense. With Wang Lu involved, this might not be such a big deal after all.
Yang Kai was certainly unwilling to spend hundreds of millions of yuan to save strangers for no reason, not even the father of the girl his son liked, not even his future in-laws. Although he wasn't a miser, every penny was hard-earned, and he naturally didn't want to squander it all, especially for someone else.
However, given his son's resolute attitude, especially his hasty return from France, if he didn't help at all and simply stood by, he might hurt the feelings of his youngest son, whom he had always doted on the most.
Therefore, Uncle Zhai's suggestion is probably the best solution. If Attorney Wang's intervention can resolve this matter, even if he pays Lin Haitao's legal fees, it would be much more worthwhile than spending hundreds of millions to cover his losses.
What Yang Kai didn't know was that getting Wang Lu involved was his son Yang Xile's idea from the very beginning; Uncle Zhai was merely playing a supporting role. Even the timing and manner in which Wang Lu was mentioned to him were pre-arranged by Yang Xile and Uncle Zhai.
If Yang Xile is given another ten years to grow, Yang Kai, that old fox, may not be able to outmaneuver his son.
