In the private room of the hotel, Du Shuang, Director Xu, his assistant, and a middle-aged man over forty-five or forty-six years old sat upright.
Wei Changfeng noticed that although the middle-aged man was slightly overweight, he had an extraordinary demeanor. Just as he was wondering how to address him, Du Shuang introduced the two of them.
"This is Mr. Li from Hengyuan Investment Group, and this is my good friend Wei Changfeng from when I was working in Beijing."
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I've long admired your name." The middle-aged man opposite me politely extended his hand first.
Wei Changfeng hurriedly bowed slightly in return and shook hands with the other party: "It is an honor to meet you. Hengyuan Group's name is well-known."
"You two don't need to flatter each other anymore," Du Shuang laughed, clearly very familiar with the man.
Zhao Hui and Xiao Hao introduced themselves, and everyone took their seats.
Du Shuang and Wei Changfeng had arranged to meet at 8 PM, and they arrived a little early. However, Director Xu, Du Shuang, and that General Manager Li had obviously arrived even earlier, presumably because they had other matters to discuss beforehand.
This restaurant is considered the most upscale in Hengdian, with exquisite dishes and private rooms offering excellent privacy.
The group chatted casually. Zhao Hui asked about Du Shuang's injury. Du Shuang replied, "Brother Hui, look, I can eat and drink now, and I have no problems at all. Director Xu was just worried that I was too tired and wanted to take this opportunity to give me a couple more days off to rest."
Director Xu was a little embarrassed and said to Du Shuang and General Manager Li, "It was my poor arrangement on set. I should have insisted on using a stunt double for that scene. I feel very sorry that Du Shuang got injured."
"It's alright, Director Xu, you don't need to worry about it. Xiao Shuang is a workaholic when she's filming, I've already experienced that firsthand. Once she's made up her mind, no one can persuade her otherwise."
After hearing what President Li said, Wei Changfeng knew that his guess was correct. This president of Hengyuan Group was the mysterious big shot behind Du Shuang.
Because of Du Shuang's personality and demeanor, although she is not old, she has always had the style of a big sister. Wei Changfeng has known her for so many years, and he has almost never heard anyone call her "Xiao Shuang".
Even He Xiaomei always called her "Sister Shuang, Sister Shuang," and Wei Changfeng, Liu Liang, and Li Ang always called her by her name. Director Xu also called her Du Shuang directly.
Just then, Mr. Li struck up a conversation with him: "Changfeng, Du Shuang said that you two have known each other for many years. Many of the classmates who went to Beijing together back then have changed careers. It's not easy for you to have persevered to this point."
Wei Changfeng nodded in agreement and said, "Back then, many of us teenagers lived near the schools we were going to take exams. I knew at least twenty or thirty of them. Now it seems that many of them have gone to do other things, and there don't seem to be many who are still acting."
"Yes, so it's really rare that four out of the five of us are still in the industry." Du Shuang was referring to the group of five who had gathered during the Spring Festival.
"If Liu Liang hadn't changed careers, I feel he could have made it big. He's so clever." Wei Changfeng always thought Liu Liang had a good image, was very cheerful and outgoing, and knew how to get along with everyone. In this industry, sometimes connections are more important than ability.
"Liu Liang? Is that the guy who took you to see the house last time? That boy seems pretty clever." President Li turned to ask Du Shuang.
Du Shuang laughed and, without any hesitation, grabbed President Li's arm in front of everyone, saying softly, "It's him. You didn't say that before. You said this person looked cunning and told me to stay away from him."
Despite being exposed by Du Shuang so openly, President Li wasn't angry. Instead, he looked at Du Shuang with a hint of indulgence and said, "Alright, Xiao Shuang, you're just going to deliberately embarrass me in front of your friends and the big director, aren't you?"
Both Wei Changfeng and Director Xu could see that this legendary big shot doted on Du Shuang.
After several rounds of drinks and dishes, before taking his leave, General Manager Li specifically asked everyone to take good care of Du Shuang, saying that she would forget everything else when she started filming.
Everyone readily agreed, after all, in the face of the power of capital, everyone is very gentle and understanding.
Back at the hotel booked by the film crew, Zhao Hui couldn't help but sigh to Wei Changfeng that it seemed that President Li really liked Du Shuang, rather than treating her as a plaything.
Even the strong-willed Du Shuang becomes as docile as a lamb in front of him.
Mr. Li only stayed in Hengdian for one day before leaving, presumably because he was very busy with business.
Director Xu gave Du Shuang three days to rest and recover. By the fourth day, the bruises had faded a bit, and she began to return to work.
It was another ten-hour shoot. Once Director Xu got to work, he completely forgot about what General Manager Li had told him to take extra "care" of Du Shuang.
I finally finished work at 10:30 pm.
Du Shuang and Wei Changfeng ate their takeout while chatting casually.
Perhaps to relieve fatigue, Du Shuang ignored her assistant's objections and drank a can of beer despite her back injury not yet being fully healed.
Wei Changfeng originally wanted to offer some words of comfort, but seeing how her assistant was rebuffed, he knew that no one could go against her will, so he kept quiet.
As the others walked away, Du Shuang suddenly asked him what his impression of the General Manager Li he had met a few days ago was.
Wei Changfeng naturally offered a polite compliment, while Du Shuang tilted her head to look at him and blurted out, "Do you think we're a good match?"
Du Shuang's words almost stunned Wei Changfeng. She's too straightforward!
He tried hard to recall Mr. Li's image at the dinner party that day. Although he was a little overweight in middle age, he didn't have a greasy belly and his figure was quite good.
She has thick, black hair on her head, instead of the hair loss crisis that many middle-aged men face. Just based on these two points alone, can't she beat half of all men?
In addition, Mr. Li is not short, and wearing a very well-fitting custom-made suit, he looks very capable and has a decisive and ruthless temperament.
